Top Local Tips for Los Angeles
Don't be afraid of the Metro Most people in LA, or more precisely rich people in their SUVs, seem to be frightened of taking the bus and Metro. Don't be. I use the London tube regularly and in contrast the LA Metro is luxurious, ridiculously cheap and spacious. The buses too are cheap and efficient and the drivers go out of their way to help. Or you could just hire a car and sit in a two hour traffic jam sucking in the smog - it's up to you.
short LA trip beaches were beautiful. Took the star homes tour with Starline. It wasn't bad.Went to the Beverlu Center, a mall in Beverly Hills were stars supposedly go to shop. It was a nice mall. Weather was just great, neither too hot or cold. We were handicapped by not renting a car the first day so it was good that we were in downtown where it was easy to catch the Metro or a bus or taxi.. The Catholic Church on 3oth and Figueroa looke beautiful from the outside. Didn't realize tjat LA has a lot of talll buildings and more are being built. Another tip, go to AAA and theyll give you a packet of maps which are really useful.
Take the Super Shuttle to/from LAX I wanted to avoid the shuttles originally, and take the Fly Away Union Station bus/train downtown. However, after a way-too-lengthy wait at the bus stop, we found ourselves with rising blood pressure and no clear idea of what we were looking for. Instead, we flagged a cab that set us back $45. The desk staff at the Ritz recommended taking the Super Shuttle back and arranged pick up for us.The shuttle cost $16 per person and the driver dropped us off at the correct terminal with plenty of time to spare.
