Not bad at all!

from lalimama
Much better than expected! We stayed overnight here before continuing on to the East Coast. Beds were great, the "good night's sleep" package just a lovely touch. We needed a rollaway since we got a king (went through Hotwire, where apparently you take your chances), and that came very promptly and had all the cushioning and poof of the standard beds. The shuttle was very prompt. I would stay here again (and wish that I had, instead of the Westin LAX, where I did my return layover).

Crowne Plaza - LAX

from mle94403
The Crowne Plaza is remodelling many of their rooms, and I have to say the beds are very comfy with lots of pillows. Staff was friendly and helpful for my needs. The room was spacious, clean, and I have to say quiet for being so close to the Aiport. The gym is pretty nice with a variety of machines and weights. There are also 3 TVs in the gym as well. Overall, it's a good value for the money (amenities & service).

My big gripe would be parking. Parking is not included in the base price. It's approximately $10/day or $12.50/day with in and out priviledges. The ticket machines don't always read the barcodes either, so if one doesn't work try the other one before taking another ticket from the machine. For a hotel this size, parking should be available for guests. If nothing else, parking should be discounted.

Pretty unimpressive

Stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in November, 2004. Rooms were big and breakfast (included) was pretty nice. The room did not seem very clean though and the tub was not draining the water, which I hate. We complained but nothing was done. Staff was not too helpful - we were told to get advice from the person at the bell desk who did not appear for 30 mins (we gave up then). Parking was not included in the rate and was quite expensive in the garage.

Not friendly or consistent

I bought a package that was to include everything for my lodging but food and laundry services. The cost even was to include tax. When I arrived the room smelled of stale cigar smoke. I was told to turn the fan on while I went out for the evening and it would clear up. I came back at 2 am and the room still smelled. I couldn't get anyone to answer the phone at the desk. I was too tired after traveling all day and being at a tv show taping until after midnight in Burbank to pack everything up, go to the desk to try to find a person to talk with etc so I waited til the next day. I was then moved to the 14th floor which is to be a quite zone floor with no banging doors, no maid service until after 9 am etc. The floor was still noisy. The rooom I had also faced the airport and it was very noisy. I had to sleep with the heating/ac unit fan on high all night to try to drown out some of the noise. The parking garage costs $12 a day to park a car and they were not going to waive the fee until I showed them the paperwork that said my package included ALL fees and taxes. Finally after talking to 2 managers they waived the parking fee. The parking is a nightmare. You have to get a ticket when you go in and have it scanned in the hotel. Then most of the time when you go to leave the garage the machine won't scan it to let you out so you have to try to back up, find a parking space go get another ticket, go back to the hotel and have a new ticket scanned. Then try to leave again. Then when you go to come back into the garage the machine won't scan the ticket you have so you end up having a handful of parking tickets with you hoping one of them will work in the scan machine to let you in or out of the garage. It is a hugh pain in the neck and a BIG time waster. The rooms were ok but weren't cleaned everyday and the sheets were changed every 3 days uless you requested otherwise. The bed however was comfortable. The amenities they say are in the room are not necessarily there each day so don't count on them being there. There is always a line at the front desk as well and it also is a big time waster. I did find that Alfredo the concerige was very nice and helpful as was Cecelia t the front desk. I would use my money next time to stay somewhere cheaper as you get the same type of room and service at a cheaper place without all the parking hassel, airport noise roaring at night and expense of parking. The pool and hot tub are outside and well maintained. The fitted sheets didn't fit the bed and were 1/2 on and 1/2 off the bed.

Run, run far away!

from GooChick
As hotel rooms go, the Crowne Plaza LAX was very run-of-the mill. Certainly nothing special. A few of the problems I encountered included staff who did not know English very well, a room request which was denied and cleaning issues.

I was traveling with someone who had an obvious disability. When we were shown to our room, the bellman realized that our room was very far from the elevator. He told us that he knew there was a room on our floor right outside the elevator which wasn't occupied and that he would request a change for us. He was very attentive and reported back to us that he couldn't get anyone to make the switch and suggested that we call the front desk ourselves. When I did this, I was placed on hold for at least 10 minutes and then told that the hotel was fully booked and there were no other rooms available. As someone who travels regularly and knowing the time I was there was not during tourist season, I found this excuse questionable. We ended up staying in the room for the duration of our visit, which was very difficult for someone with disabilities. We also had issues with housekeeping. We could never tell if the bathroom had actually been cleaned and since there was an obvious odor of urine, I seriously doubted it. I spoke directly to the maid, who's English was limited at best, and requested that she clean in and around the toilet because of the smell. After two requests and it still not being done, I did it myself. Never have I had to do anything like this before and never will I stay at this hotel again!

Great hotel for the money!

from A TripAdvisor Member
In a week long trip through California (staying in four different hotels) this was by far the best value we encountered. The staff is wonderful, rooms were comfortable (the new sleep system is fantastic) and the food was exceptional. The only problem we encountered were some very loud neighbors on New Year's Eve (we had to be up at 5AM) that took three calls to the front desk to quiet. Remember that parking is additional when you consider the cost of this hotel ($12 a day). We had a great stay and I would recommend this location.

Great view of the runway

from Graysgirl
Arrived here with an Internet booking, for a double and a twin room, to be told by a surly member of reception staff that we had two doubles. Production of superior loyalty card and print out of the booking (made some weeks before) elicited double and twin with bad grace.

The pool is small but secluded - no towels when we were there although signs suggested there might be or proper changing room, but well maintained and clean, and there are decent fitness facilities.

Twin room dark and dingy, but quiet. Double room was light and bright, but great view of the airport runway and the all night traffic. Some lack of attention to in room facilities (CD player, toiletries, coffee maker utensils)

Food in the evening very good value (and delicious with lovely pasta, breads and a great salad buffet) as was the breakfast buffet, although the latter was perhaps not as comprehensive as other chains at this price. Restaurant service very good. Shuttle to airport also prompt, well driven and with helpful personnel.

Overall spoiled by grumpy and condescending reception personnel and jaded rooms at an above average price.

Nice!!!!

from tm1978
I stayed at the Crowne Plaza LAX for 1 night at the end of last year. Although we were only in this hotel 1 night, I found it very nice. It was quiet, the room was spacious and very well decorated. I am coming back to LA in August and will be staying here again.
Only thing I would say was I got asked for proof of age on 2 occasions, this is not a problem, its very complementary, but when you've been constantly asked for 2 weeks, it does get a bit boring. Tip to the bar men/woman - have a good look at the lines around the eyes and not the height of the person. Otherwise no complaints - had a great time!!!

Good Stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed four nights here. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the breakfast buffet delicious. The average-sized rooms were cleaned daily. If you're renting a car, parking is $11 a day. Near the airport, but noise is no problem.

Good value for money

from Dr_Nitro
I pass through LAX a few times a year and I usually have to spend a night at some hotel. Of the few that I have stayed at, the Crowne Plaza is the best for money. It is relatively clean, and you can get some excellent rates if you shop around on-line. Contrary to some other reviews, I didn't have any trouble with check in, and my room was clean, quiet and very large. The airport shuttle (unlike many other hotels) was quick and ocnvenient. If you are looking for a hotel in the $70-$90 range, this is the one to go for (probably not worth more than that).

Top Local Tips for Los Angeles

Armand Hammer/UCLA museum Don't pass this museum up if you're in the area. The permanent collection is small but of surprisingly good quality. It reminds me of the Frick Collection in Manhattan in that way.

Don't Stay Long!! Just don't stay for more than 3 days!

Proud Birds! Less than ten minutes from the Crowne Plaza LAX, is the Proud Bird Cafe. Check it out, the food is good, the ambience better than the name suggests, but... and it's a BIG but... the car park is full of fighter planes!
