Not a nice hotel!

I have stayed in much nicer for much less. Too isolated from everything else, especially if the road conditions are bad. They do not tell you that their, well advertised, private gondola is not running until you try to find it. One staff member at the front desk did not even know where the gondola was.

Historical Traveller Reviews of The Ridge Tahoe Hotel

not good enough

from LEllis
We stayed in the Terrace building. The room was so average, althought the view was gorgeous. Because of the out of town location I would have expected a full range of services, but there was no room service and the Bar and Restaurant closed at 9pm. The food was very average and over priced and the service poor. We were served our main course/entree whilst still chewing the last mouthful of appetisers. I suppose they had to get us out quickly as the were closing at 9pm! The wine list was poor too, and with Napa Valley only hours away!

The Deli claimed to serve Starbucks coffee, but I witnessed the guy steaming my drink all together, not the milk separately and then adding it to the espresso. In actual fact he initially handed my Mocha to me COLD before I complained. He then simply dunked the steamer nozzle into the drink and handed it back to me. I was gob-smacked.

I didn't use the pool or spa as this meant walking up the the main building - not something you can do in your robe.

Tahoe itself was disappointing. The setting is truly breathtaking, The Lake and the mountains and good skiing made the trip worth while. But the town was very boring (unless you want to spend ALL your time in Casinos) and it was difficult to find any decent food. If you like Macdonalds, Hard Rock cafe, Starbucks and Subway then you'll be in junk food heaven. If not then look a little further afield.

I reccommend Heidi's for brekkie.

Be careful -- no refunds

My husband and I were to attend a wedding at the Ridge in June. I had to cancel our trip when a dear friend died in a tragic accident. We had to pay full price for the (unused) Friday & Saturday night stay, even though I canceled a full seven days before our planned stay.

Yes, they do warn about refund policy on their website. So be careful. There are no exceptions; a fact we paid dearly for.

Loved The Ridge

from A TripAdvisor Member
Loved every second. It was beautiful. There is so much to do there and we did a lot of it. Played tennis, went to the exercise class, played ping pong. Loved it!!!! Would like to live there.

The view was very disappointing as we looked out on the parking lot and had other guests looking into our living room window throughout the day and evening. The website was misleading, there was no mention of a partial or hidden view. Fortunetly we were able to get an upgraded room overlooking the valley. The front office staff needed some professional interpersonal training.

In need of Repairs.

My wife and I stayed at "the Ridge" twice over the past two years. Our first experience was excellent, the second was awful.
We arrived to a very small room that was not properly cleaned by housekeeping. We found a poker chip on the floor which meant the carpet was not vacuumed. The toilet overflowed. The desk person told us to use the plunger provided in the room to fix it ourselves. The gas fireplace didn't work. The heat was stuck on and couldn't be turned down since the thermostat was locked in the adjoining room. The window was stuck open and couldn't be closed. We decided to leave after only one night and cancelled our other two nights. The desk manager hassled us and we had to insist on not being charged for the cancelled nights. We wrote a letter describing our horrible stay to the general manager. He was very apologetic and offered us two free nights. We are debating whether or not to return.

Great Accomodations

We just returned from a week at the Ridge Tahoe. Our room had a wonderful view of snow capped mountains and the Valley. Some reviews had made me nervous about the location, but for us it was perfect. If you want to be in the thick of things and want to shop and play at the casinos, then it would not be the place to stay, but if you're looking for a relaxed vacation spot, then I would highly recommend it.

Great Resort

from Warby40
Stayed here for the skiing over Easter. Expected it to be busy with US holidaymakers - it wasn't. This resort is close to Stagecoach lift. There are shuttle buses which arrive on demand, and take you around the various buildings across the resort, or to Stagecoach lift. Alternatively, the resort has its own Gondola to take you down to Stagecoach lift. Lots of facilities for all the family, including a great Spa (wide range of treatments), gym, indoor/outdoor heated pool, small shop (groceries and souvenirs),games room (with free pool tables), table tennis and even its own movie theatre.

Hotel is up the mountain, away from the main heavenly resort - but it only takes approx 15 mins to drive down - not that there was much need to leave the resort. If you don't want to drive, there are hourly shuttle buses which take you down to Heavenly and the casino's. Just be careful if its snowing - the road is quite bendy and can be icey!

We stayed in a 1 bed condo. Room clean and spacious (although no kettle!) Daily maid service. The jacuzzi and sauna in each building were also great and meant you didn't have to go to the main building for a relaxing soak.

If you like skiing I recommend the Ridge Resort!

The place to be if you ski...

from A TripAdvisor Member
We've stayed here the last two January's on time-share trades. We have been pleased and would not stay anywhere else when we come to Tahoe to ski. The gondola was not running this year but the shuttle's come by every 5 mins or so. The units are very well appointed as others have mentioned. The underground/covered parking is a big deal. The resort is at 8,000' and it snows all the time. At the condos without covered parking, the cars are buried all the time. The spa and pool are great. We usuallly get at least one massage during our stay. The little sundries store is very nice. Gifts, snacks, soda, toiletries, movies/DVDs, schwag, etc. I would not go without a car though. If you are going to be going to any other ski areas you will need one anyway. The drive to town is 10-15 min. Enjoy.

Great Accomodations

Janurary 8-14, 2005. Substantial research before trip indicated that the Ridge Tahoe would be a great place to stay. 100" of snowfall in three days and nothing went wrong. Ridge Tahoe road maintenance worked miracles. It met all my family's expectations and more. Secure and well patrolled (non-guests cannot enter site). Very tastefully appointed and decorated two bedroom condo (with upscale furniture and luxury linens and towels) at Naegle 1 facility was spacious and luxurious, quiet and private and on such a large site never a crowd anywhere...worth every $. A hundred feet from our private door was gondola right to Heavenly Stagecoach (skied over mountain into Lake Tahoe for lunch downtown and back literally to our door). Private covered parking, great fully appointed kitchen, great fireplace, lots of light, elevators where desired, spectacular views of old woods with tons of snow and just outside our deck, a dozen acres of untouched, deep snow where our son played to his heart's content. Chipmunks and racoons dropped by to snack and put on a great show. Views of the surrounding mountains perfect and uninterrupted and the views of the Carson Valley Plain a mile and a half below were expansive and breathtaking. Didn't expect room service and had no time for much television (had three big ones available). Staff immediately fine-tuned everything in our place to our desires and met our highest expectations, treating us like royalty. Shuttles every 15 minutes into casinos (we didn't go) and shopping all day long. We drove everywhere in our own vehicle. Spa, facials, massage wonderful. On site conscierge made us reservations at fabulous local restaurants, etc. Store on site met all our food (fresh fruit, etc.) and essential sundry needs and rented movies for the three dvd and tape players in our condo. Superb stereo throughout condo. Easy to get around. Inspiringly beautiful and easy drive to center of town (why go into town?) Close to great restaurants, sleigh rides, snow shoe hikes, etc. My wife, daughter, and son had a ball at the Ridge Tahoe. Reminded me of Manhattan's Ritz Carleton or Waldorf Astoria but cost was less dear and snowy mountains all around. If you can afford it, stay at the Ridge Tahoe. You won't regret it.

Will not return!!!

This was my first (and last) trip to Tahoe. I would have probably enjoyed it better if we stayed some place other than The Ridge. The room was ok, but not near worth the money. No, A/C so our window had to remain open. Basic cable only in the room. No pay per view or other movie channels.
This place is not near anything! We had to take a shuttle just to eat. No room service here. The snow just compounded the problems the location provided. You took a chance on your life any time you left the resort and went down the hill to town or to ski.
All in all, this place was quite disappointing. They lost power the morning we left. We had to tote our bags down 6 stories and leave without a shower or a shave. Let me tell you, not the best way to leave your vacation

Top Local Tips for Lake Tahoe

Shuttle service The Ridge does provide free shuttle service down to the casinsos, but this service ends early. You have to pay for the Blue shuttle service to get back- $5 one way!

Kitchen 19 If you are bringing your girl to LT, you gotta bring her to Kitchen 19. Be sure to wear you suit and tie, get her into a nice dress and go to Kitchen 19 at the top of Harrah's. Oh man, it was THE MOST EXPENSIVE dinner I have ever paid for, but it was sooooo worth it.

Tahoe Applebee's Great food, large portions enough to share.
