This is the first time I am writing a review for a hotel - I am compelled to add my support to all the rave reviews here for this hotel. Believe me, these reviews are not fake. This hotel is truly a great value, especially if you, like me, hate smoke-filled casino hotels , then this is your best bet for a clean
and nice hotel with friendly staff and a decent breakfast to get you started
and save time in the morning before you head out for whatever you want to do.

Best deal in town!

What a treat and surprise. After spending 9 days in a much more expensive hotel in San Francisco we were nervous to see what we'd discover at this hotel....especially because we were only paying $69/night. We were amazed to find this room was 10x better than the Crowne Plaza hotel we stayed at. Very spacious, nice sized tv with many channels, nicely equipped desk/work area with wireless internet access, refigerator and microwave in room, sofa with coffee table, gas fireplace in wall (two-sided which could be enjoyed from the huge bathroom). The bathroom was great as well.....great countertop space, two person hot tub AND a two person shower. Also only a stone's throw away from the casinos and many shops. The only negative for this hotel would be the bed/bedding. The matteress was hard and uncomfortable and the bedding felt like it was made out of parachute material and the batting inside the comforter was clumped up and not dispersed evenly. We stayed on the upper level so we didn't have any problems with noise from the metal staircases. Great place and wonderful stay. I highly recommend.

Really Nice Hotel

We stayed in the Holiday Inn Express for twelve nights during late March/ Early April, and were extremely satisfied guests.
Our room was bright, well furnished and tastefully decorated. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom adequate, although the extractor fan did not seem to be particularly effective.
The buffet breakfast surpassed expectations with a good choice of breads and pastries, plus joghurt, fresh fruit, cereals, juices etc.
The front desk staff were friendly and helpful, and we felt very much at ease in the hotel.
It has a great location, only a short walk to the town gondola and maybe 5 minutes walk from the casinos.
You may find cheaper rooms in Tahoe, but the quality of the accommodation and the generous breakfast mean excellent value for money. We'd definitely go back to this hotel.

Great place to stay !

In March 2005 we arrived in Lake Tahoe for a first trip in this area. Unsure of the inn that we had booked we were very pleased when we arrived. The room was clean and larger than we expected. The microwave and frig were nice additions for late nice snacks. The location is within walking distance to the casinos and to the gondola. It was a great value. I would stay certainly stay here again.

We booked in for three nights in a king jacuzzi suite (Room 213). Check ou the web rates.
I was a little concerned that this hotel (from some of the previous reviews) may not be up to my exacting standards but I have to tell you, this beats lots of hotel rooms I have stayed in hands down.

What a treat to find a fireplace, two Tv's a great two person hot tub and double shower and a huge comfy bed. Not to mention the microwave and fridge.
The only downside of this room is that it is situated under the staircase to other floors - and in ski season lots of clumpy boots on metal can be noisy.

Location is superb about four blocks from stateline surrounded by shops and plenty of places to eat nearby.
We were not disappointed with this place - and when we asked if we could book out a day early ( we changed our plans spontaneousley) the staff could not have been more helpful.

Thank you HIE for a very pleasant stay. Happy to recommend.

4 Star Service, 3 Star Rooms, 2 Star Value

This property looks great from the outside with new paint, windows, doors, etc. The lobby is also very nice and the interior of the rooms feature nice carpet and tile. The problems are in the items I most value in a motel of this type, namely outside noise (or lack thereof), bed and pillow quality, shower and TV. Most of the rooms face US 50 and therefore have consistent road noise until very late at night, especially if windows are open. Ours faced west, but still noise could be heard during the night. Bed was of Motel 6 quality, pillows were wafer thin and very low quality, shower head was too low and TV had very poor reception on lower cable channels. The TV problem was a big annoyance because there was a large wildfire in the area and we could not receive any of the local channels for updates on road closures, etc. Also, the "tourist" channel for S. Lake Tahoe (6) was unwatchable. I brought this to the attention of the manager and she offered to switch rooms, but that room had the same TV problem and was much noisier (faced US 50). She did offer to discount the rate about $20/night and I thought that was reasonable and good customer service on her part. Overall, the value for this hotel is not there because of the low quality essential items. Buy some new beds, pillows, TVs and a satellite dish and it would be worth the $180/night. All staff were friendly and efficient.

My family and I stayed two nights in August in the 2 King suite. The rooms were nice, with the exception of the termites coming in the window. At first we weren't sure what kind of bugs they were, but then I reconized them as termites. They look like ants, but have longer bodies and can fly until they remove their own wings. Anyway, we found several piles of wood droppings outside the window on the ground. We also saw the termites by the pool. The pool was nice, but a little small. Check in is at 3:00pm, but had to wait a little longer to get into the rooms because they hadn't finished cleaning up. Next time I'll try another hotel, only because I'm not a big fan of bugs.

Decent location and decent service

I went there with friends to spend the July 4th weekend. I rented two rooms, mine was quite good and everything is as advertised but the other room is missing microwave, and trash can. The room was not as large as I thought it was. (got the impression form their website picture) However, eveything in the room was very tidy, nothing fancy just a standard hotel room feel.

Location was good, just 2 blocks from casino, and 1 block from grocerry and food source. A disappointment was that there is no back entrance to the beach. If you need to get down to the beach then you have to drive. The facilities were excellent: spa, sauna, and even safety boxes were provided. Overall, the place is great except $181 per room is a little high price to pay while I found most of the hotel still have vacancy when I got there.

I might want to experience other hotel next time but Holiday Inn Express is still in my alternative list.

Good value, good service, and good room

The room was very clean and had plenty of space to be comfortable. My wife and I had our 1 1/2 year old with us and had to set up our portable crib, yet we never felt like we didn't have enough space. The location was good, close enough to both the lake and the casinos. The service was very attentive and responded quickly when we needed them. The continental breakfast was tasty and had plenty of variety to satisfy the pickiest of eaters. The price was very affordable for the location and for the quality of the room. The only minor negatives were the quality of the television and the lack of an elevator. The television had to be about 15 years old. The color on the television was turned all the way up (resulting in a bad picture) and the controls to turn it down were broken so it could not be adjusted. The lack of an elevator was made it a lot of work to carry luggage up and down. Overall, it was very pleasant experience and would recommend it to anyone looking for affordable accommodations in the South Lake Tahoe area.

I've stayed at this hotel the last 2 times I visited Lake Tahoe and will stay here in the future as well. The rooms are very nice, everything is clean and in great shape. The breakfast has a great selection of food. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rates are especially good during the off-season or during the week. It's close to the casino's and Heavenly Gondola, both within walking distance.

Top Local Tips for Lake Tahoe

Great location - close to everything This hotel is very conveniently located. Many ski resorts are within a short drive - or Heavenly Gondola is across the street within walking distance. The casinos, shops, theater and skating rink at Heavenly Village are just a short walk (a block to 2 blocks). Raleys and Starbucks are across the street. Carrows Restaurant and Applebees are right next door, or a little further walk to a great selection of restaurants in Heavenly Village or casinos. Short walk to the Lake Shore. GREAT location if you want to go out for a few (or a lot) of drinks and walk back.

Tahoe trip dates Spring and fall are the best times to avoid crowds at Tahoe. The "gamblers only" crowd is there then and recreation activities are down. Many of the gamblers from California are going to Indian casinos in that state. The result is that the area is economically depressed, schools are closing because working families are moving away, and the businesses are suffering. Deals abound on lodging and perhaps other bargains can be found as well.

Try Naked Fish for Sushi in South Lake Tahoe Apparently on Mon-Thurs from 5pm-6:30pm, the Naked Fish has Happy Hour, with special prices on appetizers, sushi, drinks (beer, wine, sake) all around $3, $4, $5, $6. We arrived at 5:15pm and got probably one of the last tables available (then the rest of the line--and the line grew while we were there--had to wait until around 6:10pm to get seated again, just under the wire for the Happy Hour). Our advice--get there early or be prepared to wait. Note, we were there during a holiday weekend (Thurs July 5) so that might have accounted for the surge in table waits, but just FYI.
