We have been going to Tahoe for over fifteen years and this was our worst trip yet. Although the convienient location was attractive, the property is outdated and managment seemed uninterested in our dissatisfaction. Unseasonable rains cannot be the fault of the resort, but room leaked uncontrollably. Requested manager contact us but he never bothered. I accept partial blame for lack of research prior to booking, but will never stay there again. Recommend Embassy or Harrah's as alternatives. We've always had better experience there!
Decent hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
Pros: SPACE; nice kitchen area, nice living room & bedroom. Cons: elevator & hallways were old & musty (they haven't gotten around to those renovations), the walls are really quite thin, mattress are worn out-ouch! The construction next door was quite loud. My 1 bedroom room was clean, neat, roomy & bright. This is a decent mid-level hotel. Lake Tahoe either has 1 room dives or very expensive lodging. This hotel is nice for a family (roomy with a clean, bright kitchen & living room).
Management Response

Since this guest's visit in October, all of the hallways in the buildings have been renovated. Each hallway was redone with new carpet, paint and light fixtures. In early December 2005 we replaced every mattress in the hotel with new Serta beds. The feedback that we have received since has been tremendously positive and many guests are telling us that the beds are among the most comfortable that they have ever slept on. We do our best to address our guests' concerns and appreciate any and all constructive feedback as it allows us to continue to improve our services and our facility.
Always a great value...
from ImpressMeNow
I have stayed at the Forest Suites several times in the past. The staff have always been very friendly and accomodating. I have only stayed in the suites and I think they are a great value. I typically go with a group of 3 to 4 people and we really enjoy the spacious rooms and full kitchen use. It's really nice to be able to cook a meal once in awhile! The suites are close to shopping, grocery stores, and only a short walk to the main casinos. There is also a shuttle which can pick you up if you don't feel like walking. The suites may not be the most glamorous looking, but they have always been clean and the bathrooms have never been a problem. I will continue to spend my vacations at this hotel.
Beware Construction going on across the street...

Family of 4 (2 young kids) booked this hotel on expedia. We got a great deal (i thought) on a one bedroom suite w/kitchen.
PROs: breakfast is decent, 2 pools, great location, price
CONs: Construction is going on across the street between the forest suites and the Marriott so if you are planning to stay here, I recommend you avoid buildings 1 and 5.
We were awake every morning at 6:30 am by the sounds of hammering and the beeping of the trucks when they back up.
The rooms do not have AC (there was a noisy portable fan) so the rooms get very hot at night it was hard to get a good night sleep .
The elevator smells bad, the halls smelled funny, large groups stay here so they gather around pool and don't leave you much room. Breakfast area is small so you have to wait for a table....
Our room was not ready by the 4pm checkin~we had to wait in the lobby for over 30 min...
We will not stay there again.

Definitely NOT a Resort

Stayed one night in one of their hotel rooms. The beds in the room were by far the worst beds I have ever encountered in a hotel. There were 2 beds in my room and both of them were so worn that you rolled to one side. I actually opted to take the quilt off the bed and sleep on the floor. Told them about it the next morning and they graciously thanked me for my input (but didn't discount the room at all). For a few bucks more, you can get an excellent room at the Embassy Suites.
Also, be aware that the suites that they have here do not have air conditioning. Granted, you don't need AC all that much in Lake Tahoe, but the weekend I was there it was in the upper 80's during the day. They do provide you fans to cool off your room.
Definitely would NOT consider staying here again.

We love this place
from Collieguy4
We stayed at this property on our trip (for the 5th or 6th time) because it is simply the best. We normaly book a regular 1 BR suite, but this time we stayed in the Emerald Bay Suite and it was Fantastic!!! We will definately book this room again for the winter as there is a big, beautiful fireplace in the bedroom. The large jacuzzi tub was wonderful .... the huge, fully equiped kitchen was great (I love to cook, even on vacations) and the staff was, as always, just super friendly and helpful. This was our first time staying here in the summer and the pool was great. A nice lady from housekeeping came by and gave us towels (we didn't ask) and told us to "no get burned in the sun". We go to Tahoe often and have stayed at many properties, but this really is the best. We do all our activities durring the day ... hiking, boating/fishing, skiing etc. then SO look forward to getting back to our "apartment" at Forrest Suites. Anyone traveling with a group should seriously consider staying here. We go with a ski group each March and it is SO nice to have this apartment-like atmosphere. We all get together each night in a different suite for wine and dinner. Forest Suites is simply the best.
Very Convenient

On April 12 2005 we stayed overnight at the Forest Suites Resort at South Lake Tahoe. Although the decor is a little tired our room was perfect for our family. Two adults and four teenage children fitted very well for our overnight stay. The front office staff made sure we had a ground floor room and with the help of a baggage trolley check-in was a breeze.
We found the starbucks down on the next corner to get a hot coffee that night. The Raleys supermarket nearby was great also.
It even snowed the next morning enabling our children to see fresh falling snow for the first time in their lives.

We would definately go back to our one bedroom unit!
from travelwhere
We obtained an upstairs 1 bedroom unit with a living room and full kitchen. The unit was older but nicely furnished. The free breakfast was more than adequate with a friendly lady quickly refilling the needed items. The staff were nice. We obtained a small discount to the "must see" gondolas that are closeby. The location is walking distance to Raley's and many shops that are inbetween the neighboring Embassy and Mariott. It is not luxurious but plenty nice.
comfy family value for money

Just returned after staying for 2 weeks at the forest, suites, yes on arrival the lack of a porter carring 8 bags including skis into a dingy lift wasn't the best start but the place grows on you.Our one bed apartment was a generous size ,nicelyfurnished , houskeeping adequate pleanty of storage for family of four.Breakfst was sufficient its free so better than buying in from supermarket muffins.eggs waffles juice etc. Early friday night sees complimentary wine cheese etc in the bar . location for centre of town supermarket etc /gondola was great.
perhaps we were lucky with the other guests but no noise and all seemed like minded as we soaked in the hot tub .
after comparing to other hotels in resort you could pay a lot more for lesser accom.
reception staff very pleasant

Overpriced and dumpy

The good news is that the hotel is close to the Heavenly Gondola, and the continental breakfast was fairly good. However, there are a number of problems with the place. Starting with the bathroom, there is little water pressure, and you will be left standing in ankly deep water if you take a shower as the drains are very slow. The maid service is questionable at best. The maid put the pillows directly on the floor of the closet after making the hide-a-bed coach the first morning (she could have simply put them back on the closet shelf where we originally found them). It wouldn't have bothered me so much but everything stuck to the carpet it was so dirty. The comments about the hauls being smelly are true. The elevators remind me of a Disney ride. The whole place is way too noisy too. If you are in a group of drunk snowboarders then this is the place for you. If you are looking for any quality at all then go somewhere else.

Clubs If your into having a good time at night I would really go to Vex
Dining Eat at the Driftwood Cafe for breakfast or lunch. It is a small place with good home cooking. Very pleasant people.
Excellent dining option There is an excellent restaurant at the Embassy Suites that has patio seating right on the street. Great place to people watch during the summer.
