Simply Lovely!

from jwl05
My wife and I enjoyed three nights at the Lafayette Park Hotel and Spa in November of 2004. Our room was magnificent! Everything was immaculate and the room was LARGE (as was the bathroom). The ambience was soothing, upscale and relaxing. From our window, we could watch steam rising from the pool in the morning. We enjoyed a glass of complimentary wine in the evening and strolls around the grounds. The city of Lafayette is quite nice, too.
Valet service was always prompt and a phone call to the front desk brought quick action when we needed an extra pillow.
We would recommend this hotel without reservation and will most assuredly stay there again when in the area.

Home from home at the Lafayette Park Hotel.

While from Lafeyette, I reside in England, making frequent visits home. I nearly always make the Lafayette Park Hotel my home from home. I also stay at their sister hotel, the Monterey Bay Plaza, in Monterey, California. The room I stayed in for ten days in April, overlooked the pool and spa, which was lovely. The Duck Club is particularily fine for breakfast. I suggest booking your room to include breakfast, as you often receive two vouchers worth thirty dollars for each day booked. All in all, our favourite East Bay hotel.

Very overrated!

We checked in on a Friday at 3:30pm and they put us in a room on the 2nd floor facing a dark hillside. I called the desk and asked if we could be moved to a different room and that I would pay for the upgrades. The room we were in was very claustrophobic and dark! They said that the only other room was on the same floor but a little better location. It wasn't that much better because it was still right next to a hillside but at least it was a little sunnier. They told us that the rest of the hotel was booked. Friends of mine checked in at 5:00 and also received a room on the 2nd floor however there room faced the nice courtyard with fountain. When I went back to the front desk to complain they told me they could put us on the 4th floor! In other words, I feel they lied to us about room availability. Keep this in mind if you decide to book and get a room on the dark 2nd floor!

One other thing that really bothered me was that the room we were in had a ton of mold growing around the window frames - definitely a health issue! Also, the beds are very hard! I'm a soft bed person so this bothered me.

Aside from the room itself, the hotel is very nice - nice pool, courtyard etc. However, I wouldn't stay here again.

Nice service, including a glass of wine at check-in, but the room, while clean, lacked any real personality and warmth. Definitely in line for an updating, and soon. They should make the rooms and hallways more contemporary. Bathroom was clean, but was just OK. I liked the food at the Duck Club, though.

Favorite place to stay in the East bay!

I have just returned from another wonderful stay at the Lafayette Park Hotel. This small boutique hotel, minutes from Walnut Creek and Berkeley is one of my favorites. I always request a room on the third or fourth floor, ( Lower rooms are a bit dark). I enjoyed a great massage in the small spa and had a wonderful late night hot tub under the stars. The poolside fireplace is a great place to go after dinner. The staff has always accomodated my request for a comp. room upgrade if available. While the room decor is a bit dated, the beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms spacious. Best time to visit is September!

Highly Recommend the Lafayette Park Hotel

After reading reviews on this hotel, I thought I would give it a try. Our stay was for 1 night on Oct. 23rd. Everything was just great. This hotel is great. I stayed in one of the premium rooms with a fireplace and vaulted ceilings. The decor in the room was awesome, and the service was great. (Only wish is that they had jetted bathtubs). Went down to the buffet breakfast brunch in the morning at the Duck Club Restuarant on the property and had a delicious breakfast. I would definately recommend this Hotel to anyone who like to pamper themselves.

Romantic weekend at Lafayette Park Hotel and Spa

We stayed at the Lafayette Park Hotel October 22, 23, 24, 2004. Excellent service from the moment we checked in. They have a nice library in the lobby, complimentary coffee, delicious apples in the lobby, breakfast at the Duck Club was excellent, took the free shuttle to the Hungry Hunter for dinner. The service from the people working at the Hotel was excellent, a very romantic weekend with Champagne and Chocolate dipped strawberries, we already recommended this hotel to all our friends, the room was luxurious and we loved the hot tub. We will stay here again.

Great restaurant at this hotel...they really take care of you!

The Lafayette Park Hotel has an excellent restaurant, the Duck Club restaurant...Their service was first class from the moment I called them. I needed a nice restaurant that would be accomodating enough to take a reservation for 13 people for a graduation breakfast celebration, and the Duck club restaurant at the Lafayette park Hotel handled this in a most friendly and professional manner, even though we weren't even guests at the hotel.

I couldn't have been more pleased! They put us in a nice little private room, and we didn't have to wait. The service was good, the food was delicious, and we had a wonderful time. I feel this is a big plus for this hotel!

Great Hotel

This is a nice boutique hotel. It is in the East Bay and is about 25 minutes from SF. It has nice BIG rooms. Parking is $10. There are free apples in the lobby and free coffee in the morning. It has a nice spa.
I personally would NOT pay$170 for the room. I actually got it on Priceline for $95 plus tax.

Luxury in our backyard

We had a great time relaxing just minutes from home. The rooms are spacious and the staff is attentive and friendly. The pool was a welcome respite from the 90 degree heat and the spa treatment was wonderful.

I would recommend this hotel and I have already told all my friends.

Top Local Tips for Lafayette

BART The staff can take you to the local BART station, about 5 minutes away, where you can get around the city easily and efficiently.

Lafayetter Reservoir This is a neat place just a few minutes from the hotel, right down the road. There is a trail that runs along the reservoir for jogging or walking. Very scenic. Lots of locals use it it seems. You do need to pay for parking at a meter unless you have a pass.
