B A Pleasant Surprise

from ljgeddes
If you're shy, or a curmudgeon, and the prospect of breakfasting with strangers scares you, there are two tables for 2 in the dining room. Get there early for your seating (you choose one of three seatings when you check in: 8:00AM, 8:45AM, or 9:15AM) and grab one of the two tops.

A for effort, overall B

My husband and I were celebrating our 25th anniversary. We were initially very disappointed by the "ocean view" of the Windansea room, which is more like a peek of the ocean horizon over rooftops with a noisy street below. When we discovered termites in our room, the staff graciously upgraded us to the Fiesta room and surprised us with champagne and chocolate-dipped strawberries for our anniversary. For the $300 price, we didn't appreciate the air conditioning being off in August, and the breakfast was mediocre. This B&B was clean, quiet, the staff was wonderful, and the afternoon wine & cheese was lovely, but we don't plan to return.

Wonderful Getaway

from OCtravelers7
We spent three nights at the Bed & Breakfast in the Pacific View Room. We were there celebrating our anniversary and our last getaway before becoming parents for the first time (my due date was 3 weeks away). Gayle (the manager) provided very personal service to us prior to our stay and the whole staff was an absolute pleasure while we were there. Gayle set us up with a special treat, champagne & sparkling cider and strawberries to celebrate our anniversary upon check in. The room was very nice and we were happy to have an ocean view. The breakfasts were fantastic every morning. This place provided us with the perfect getaway, there is no TV in the room (which we loved), but there is a TV in the common area if we wanted to watch. There is also a computer available to check the internet/emails if desired. This came in handy just to look up some directions and restaurants to which we wanted to go. Basically, we had the opportunity to check out of life for the weekend and it was wonderful (no TV, no emails, no phones). Gayle recommended a spa company that comes to the Bed & Breakfast so we had in room massages. Our room also had a fireplace; although, since it was July, we had no intention of trying it out. In addition, we had Sherry in our room for a little nightcap before turning in for the evening. Since Gayle knew of our upcoming due date, she took the time to call us the morning of our check in just to make sure that everything was fine and we were still coming as planned. We felt like she really makes a point to get to know everyone personally. This feeling is also reiterated at breakfast as it really had a family feel around the tables. We also tried to arrange a picnic basket for lunch at the beach. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to secure the arrangements with the catering company in time for our weekend stay; however she apologized at least three times for this and offered us a picnic basket to borrow and information on local deli's where we could pack our own picnic lunch. We really appreciate her taking that extra step to help accomodate her guests expectations. We felt that this is what a Bed & Breakfast should be like, quaint with personal service. We definitely plan on going again!

Great Location, Excellent Service!

from worldtraveler2015
My fiance and I spent two nights in La Jolla to relax and take a break from wedding planning. The Bed and Breakfast Inn at La Jolla helped us accomplish our goal, as they service was excellent! The Innkeeper, Gayle, and her staff are friendly and went out of their way to ensure our stay was always comfortable. They did all the little things that mattered!

We spent the first night in the Ellen Browning Scripps room, which is beautiful, had plenty of sunlight and was a little cozy. When the day care center in the building next door was showing movies into the late hours of the night, we had a difficult time getting restful sleep. We mentioned it to Gayle the next morning, and she immediately offered us a quiet room (Fiesta room) that was also an upgrade. That made our stay much more comfortable!

The gourmet breakfast is terrific, and served in the dining room with background music. They offered coffee, tea, and orange juice. When we asked if they served hot chocolate, they decided to make a special cup for us.

We went to the beach one day, and asked if the Inn had any beach umbrellas. They not only provided the umbrella, but they gave us beach towels and beach chairs without us even asking.

The Inn is cozy and walking distance to shops, restaurants and beaches in La Jolla Cove. I highly recommend this B&B, as it's in a great location and was a wonderful experience!

A Delightful Oasis in the Heart of La Jolla Village.

from Anniebird
I thoroughly enjoyed my two night stay at the Inn. This private historic home, converted to an inn, provided a quiet and extremely comfortable "home away from home" atmosphere within a block of the heart of the Village and the beach walk. Keep in mind, this is an inn, not a hotel, so the rooms and baths are small, the breakfast table is communal, and there is limited private parking (though ample street parking.) But if you are a B & B person, you'll love this place.

My room (WindandSea) and bath were sparkling clean and beautifully furnished, with excellent amenities (Note: no tv or phone in the room itself, but I thought this was a plus!). The bed was super comfortable, the linens and towels were luxurious, and the screened windows opened to let in a cool breeze from the ocean, which was visible beyond the trees.

The breakfasts were excellent, and there was an impressive selection of cheeses for the afternoon wine and cheese buffet. The staff was unobtrusive, warm and helpful. There is no staff on site after 8 pm but guests are given keys to the house, and are assured that the manager ,who lives nearby, is available at all times.

I will note that the highly touted garden was pleasant but nothing special. Some reviews that I read criticized the noise from the adjacent recreation center; I did hear muffled sounds of a basketball game early on Saturday morning, but it was no worse than being in a normal suburban neighborhood. And the other guests at the inn were very cordial and quiet.

My only negative experience concered a 25% discount offer that was noted online but not offered when I called the Inn directly to book. I noticed the discount ad the following day and when I called to ask that it be applied, I was apologetically but firmly refused because I had not requested it at the time I made the reservation. The ad was not clear about having to do this, and I thought the refusal was unfair, but it wasn't enough to spoil my experience or my good impression of the property. I would definitely stay there again, but I would check for online specials first!

s Spectacular!

from Abundanceforyou
This B&B has to be one of the best in the country, and I have stayed at many. My wife and I found this place both beautiful and charming, inside and outside. The property is very clean and tidy and the room was very comfortable and quiet.

The food was absolutely amazing, better than many high-end restaurants. The chefs are very creative and produced some wonderful and unique dishes.

The best part was the staff - they were just outstanding in every respect. The innkeepers attended to our every need like we were family, no wait, BETTER than family. Everyone made us feel very welcome and special. The manager was extremely helpful and was a joy to be with.

We can't wait to come back to our "second home" in La Jolla!

Some good, some bad

from TXTravellingDuo
Room was very nice and clean - we stayed in the Cove. We overlooked the garden next door where there were 2 weddings over the week-end which sounds lovely unless you like an afternon nap.

The food was very good. Cookies and all. Wine and cheese set-up was generous.

One minor annoyance that has colored my opinion of the welcoming atmosphere - the management has a rule not allowing guests to use their computers even for the 2 minutes necessary to get an online boarding pass. You have to go find an internet cafe with Computers or a library (I travelled without laptop so I would relax) and this was an annoyance on my Sunday afternoon. I am used to staying in b&b's where you are treated like a guest in someone's home.

Charm, charm, charm

from CdMPaul
I managed a two night escape from my regular routine and decided to head for the great town of La Jolla. The choice of where to stay was not a difficult one and I am very pleased I chose the B&B Inn at La Jolla. It has an ideal location, next to a park and a museum. It is within walking distance of everything worth seeing in town. I took incredibly pleasant walks everywhere and at all times of the day and evening coming back to the hotel to rest and get refreshed. This is a very charming place. I talked with and enjoyed the company of the other, very charming guests and enjoyed the hospitality of the very charming hosts/innkeepers. Breakfast was creative and delicious. My room (Fiesta) was well decorated and very comfortable. A great escape!

Paradise at its best!

from humblepie
From the time we called to book the room till the time we left, we knew our choice was the right choice! The gentleman who made our reservation was extremely helpful, patient and knowledgeable and helped us select the perfect room! When we arrived, we were greeted by the innkeeper, who treated us like family. During our week long stay, we dined on delicious breakfasts, had wonderful conversations with the staff and the other guests, and thoroughly enjoyed all that La Jolla and San Diego had to offer.
We will definately be coming back on an annual basis. This inn was beautiful, a great value and the staff was exceptional!

Awesome

I spent 10 days at this LaJolla Bed and Breakfast. When my daughter saw my pictures she said this is an "awesome" place. And it is. I could not have been happier staying anywhere else in LaJolla. I found this Inn on the Internet. The location is excellent with or without a car. I am a single lady now and was very particular about where I stayed. I've been to LaJolla several times before and have stayed in lovely hotels but now that I am alone I wanted the extra care and attention one often finds in a Bed and Breakfast. The Innkeeper and her staff assisted me often, with tour information for San Diego, as well as directing me to places such as restaurants I would enjoy in La Jolla. If the Innkeeper was busy there was someone else to help. There were some personal items I forgot and they got them for me. I found tremendous friendliness here from the staff and it transferred to the guests. We all talked to each other. I never felt alone. Sometimes after days of sightseeing some of us would sit in the upstairs parlor and talk and watch TV. From the parlor and deck there is a lovely view. The beautiful flowers and palm trees and ocean can be seen. The ocean is a block away and the breakers can't be seen but the ocean and gorgeous sunsets are visible. The ocean is also visible from some of the rooms .There is a lovely patio surrounded by beautiful flowers and plants where sometimes some of us met and talked. Sometimes we had wine and cheese out there. You can eat breakfast out there if you wish. I felt very safe here. The Inn is in a good area and locked up at night. I plan to stay there again as soon as I can arrange another trip.
I had the smallest room, Kate Sessions, since I was just one person. But It is an adorable room. And it has a tub and shower and everything I needed . It has no TV but is only a few steps from the parlor which does have a TV. I was able to see the conclusion of "American Idol." I did not find my room noisy at all. The other people around were always considerate. The room and bath were always clean. I found the cleaning people as friendly as everyone else.
The breakfasts were wonderful. Besides fancy eggs, waffles, pancakes with meat if you wished, there was great homemade granola with strawberries and blueberries. There was always organic unusual flavored tea and several kind of homemade muffins. And of course coffee and juice. Iced tea and cookies or muffins were available all day. There was wine in the afternoon with crackers and cheese. And wine was available in the rooms.
Parking at the Inn is limited. I did not have a car, but I have a friend from Oceanside who visited frequently. We did not have a problem parking. He has a small Toyota and parked behind the Inn in the B&B's designated spots during the day. We walked around La Jolla alot which we enjoyed and left the car until later in the day, after 4PM , when he moved it to the front of the Inn when parking is free. But there is free parking all day on other streets very close to the Inn. The Innkeeper can direct you. In addition I think they are looking into getting some more spots.
This is a wonderful Inn for couples and a single like me. LaJolla is a great place. It is truly beautiful. Swimming is great, restaurants are great. Shopping is wonderful. If you like seals, you can see them in their natural habitat in the children's pool. There are beautiful birds. The hummingbirds come right around the patio at the Inn. Don't pass this place by. I had a great time and I think you will too.

Jogging Nearby From the Cove area, jog south on the sidewalk. During low-tide, there it's possible to jog along the tide-pools which provides for a scenic run.

Fine dining Dine at Tupinambe. George's had a nice view but average food.

Must chow at George's George's outdoor bar has awesome ocean views and the best fish tacos ever!
