Great Hotel

The hotel is great. Near to all of the sites and close to highways. The only thing I fail to understand is why hotel guests have to pay to use th sporting club. Most hotel let their guest utilize the facilities for free. The parking fees for self parking is alittle steep.

I did a package deal with hotels and paid 118 average a night for this hotel for my honeymoon. Very nice, room was clean, large tv, soft bed and pillows.

For the price I got it was well worth it to stay here and commute to the city rather than pay 3-400 more to stay on Shelter Island or Mission Bay, because you're only 8-10 minutes from being in downtown. Pool was warm even in 65 degree weather, and the hot tub was nice but me and my wife thought it was kinda lame it closed at 10pm.

Trust me, unless you got the dough its well worth it to find a place on the street and walk a half a block or so to the hotel rather than paying 15 bucks.

Also, if you do snatch a drink from overpriced mini-fridge, make sure to replace it by the next morning before house keeping takes a tab.

A Very Nice, Decent Stay

We stayed here in December. The hotel is very nice and welcoming, they have refurbished it lately and it is much nicer than it used to be. The rooms are not enormous, yet they are spacious enough and well decorated, with newish carpet in the rooms and hallways. The restaurant, Michael's is very classy and a nice, relaxing place to have a drink. A more than decent place, with helpful staff and comfort without pretense or being too in your face; very tasteful and simple.

Lovely Hotel at a Rock-Bottom Price

Hyatt Regency La Jolla is a beautiful hotel with exceptionally friendly staff. My room was booked at a rock-bottom rate on Priceline, and I was pleasantly surprised at how friendly the check-in staff was despite my being an "economy" guest. The room was recently renovated, and was lovely and without a speck of dust. The property is a bit off the beaten path, so it was a little challenging to discover neighborhood conveniences. However, the hotel grounds are a community unto themselves, with several good restaurants and lounges, a lovely pool, and great fitness facility.

We stayed at this gorgeous hotel for three nights in April. I'm puzzled by an earlier review of a shabby, older room as ours seemed to be brand-new: beautiful comforters and throw pillows/bolsters, chocolate/aqua/creme color scheme, huge terrific bathroom...convenient to La Jolla and I-5 as well as close to shopping and the Golden Triangle. Spent a lot of time at the pool; sat in one of the large halls and listened to someone play the grand piano one evening; had one of the best steak dinners ever at Fleming's across the street (great wine list and exceptional service). Sure, paying for parking stinks, but haven't yet been to a hotel in CA where we didn't have to pay to park. Would unequivocally recommend this hotel to others...

Great sports club, great pool, nice rooms

This is a great place if you need a nice hotel that is in great proximity to everything. For a Hyatt it's surprisingly well designed, clean, and the rooms are really nice. We normally don't like to stay at large chains, more prefer smaller luxury properties, but we booked our trip last minute. I was really impressed and would come back. Make sure you have time to spend an afternoon at the pool, spa and adjoining sports club as they are all A+. The sports club is the nicest one I've been to--

Staying at this hotel was a wonderful experience. The room and bathroom were huge and beautifully decorated - really beautiful. I want to steal the color scheme for my room at home! Any problems we had (tv was broke, needed an extra ice bucket) were handled immediately and with friendly service. Housekeeping was the only area that was so-so - I don't think they vaccumed everyday but that wasn't even anything to get upset about. A good location too - right near Route 5. It is a perfect place to stay because you are a short drive into San Diego or into Downtown La Jolla which is a must to see. There is also shopping, a movie theater, gas and places eat close by. I would recommend street parking rather than spend $14 a night parking though. That was really expensive. Oh - and don't forget to spend a little extra dough for the gym next door. Totally worth it!! If I went back to San Diego I would stay there in a second.

We stayed at the Hyatt La Jolla for 3 nights in mid-March and had a great time! We got this hotel for $58/night thru Priceline. Though no mention of Priceline when we checked in.

We were quite worried after reading some of the reviews and looking at the standard room's photos (kind of a dark decor). It was actually very nicely decorated with white/cream/gray and was very clean. The bathroom was huge -- you can fit in 8 people at the same time in there. The shower pressure was wonderful; bathroom was well-stocked with the basics and was clean. The front desk was friendly and polite, and made our 2 little girls laugh each morning with their jokes. The pool was stunning and big! We were too busy enjoying SD that we didn't get a chance to plunge into the pool. The hotel restaurant is open for buffet or a la carte breakfast every day. The buffet is $13.95pp and includes fresh fruit. It was quite good and healthy.

We had a rental car, so we were able to get around. Self parking at the hotel was $14/day. Concierge was VERY friendly and helpful letting us know where good restaurants were and where to go.

By car, University Towne Center (UTC) is about 10 min. away with a nice food market. We tried the Italian restaurant, Sophie's(???), in the restaurant mall across the Hyatt. It was so-so, though the service was great. California Pizza Kitchen was also 10 min. away.

Hyatt is located in a nice neighbourhood with easy I-5 access. We loved it and would stay there again!

Was fine, not as bad as other reviews.

Stayed there one night, 3/22. Place is very nice on the outside. Room was great. Nice all around. Staff was good. Location is great, in La Jolla. Had a room next to kids that were a little noisy early in the night but they got quiet after going to bed. What you gonna do about other people's kid anyways? Not anyone's fault, no big deal. Wasn't too pricey when bookin online, would definitely recommend it.

Some family of mine recently flew into the area for a reunion and we all stayed at the Hyatt La Jolla. The rooms were spacious end clean and the staff was most accomodating. In addition, most of the area local attractions are within a few miles of the hotel- definitely a plus for the kids.

Top Local Tips for La Jolla

great food... Eat at Japengo at least one time. fantastic food. And then purchase some ready made food at the Whole Foods Market down the street. Great Panini sandwiches, pizza, hot/cold foods, coffee, bakery. Cut our dining costs by getting food there and only eating out once in a while for the 8 days we were in La Jolla.

Great restaurants in the San Diego area. If you want good mexican food go to Old Town and eat at Casa Guadalajara. Great margaritas and food. I live in Los Angeles and I am an expert on good Mexican food. Also be prepared for a wait on the weekends at dinnertime. For a great lunch and dessert, go to Michele Coulon Dessertier in La Jolla village. Excellent soup and sandwiches, and be sure to try a few of the mini desserts. Also don't miss having breakfast at The Cottage, also in La Jolla village. There are many locals that eat here and they can't all be wrong.
