s Best Kept Secret

How does the average person, with little travel experience, knowledgably book a vacation when they live across the country from their destination? That was the scenario that my daughter and I found ourselves contemplating when we planned our vacation to southern Florida and the Keys. Having only some computer savvy to aide us, we decided to put all our chips on a site called "Trip Advisor". We carefully checked and strategized for our 5 day stay using other travelers input, who had generously taken the time to complete hotel reviews. That is the reason for this review. I would like to help others in their decisions for accommodations, from my own experience.

Now for what turned out to be the 'jewel' of our trip, The Atlantic Sands [-]:

We arrived at 11:00 am (4 hours prior to check in time) not really expecting to be able to check in but just to familiarize ourselves with the area. We were graciously greeted and told that our suite would be ready for us in a few moments. This was our 5th and final day in southern Florida, and also our 5th and final hotel for our vacation. When we walked in, I was taken aback at how big each suite really was. They were very bright and incredibly CLEAN.

You first walk into a spacious livingroom with an air conditioner, sleeper sofa, TV, side tables, dining area and chairs. There is a foyer closet with beach chairs (I liked this attention to detail as most people don't pack one) to use on the beach, iron and ironing board. There is a full kitchen with refrigerator, sink, stove and cooking utensils. The bedroom was also equipped with a separate window air conditioner, dresser, closet, chair and very comfortable bed with crisp clean sheets. The bathroom was bright and fresh also. Much more space then we needed for our one night's stay, but perfect for someone looking for a place for a few days, a week, or even longer. The owners have decorated them in very tropical feeling colors and you can tell that cleanliness is a high priority with their property. I would think keeping this high standard could be a daunting task, considering how close you are to the ocean and all that sand, but they seem to handle it very well.

We had our own patio right outside our door, complete with table, chairs and umbrella. From our patio we could see across to the boardwalk and also the beach and ocean. It is literally just 30 feet or so to the boardwalk and beach. Dori and Gary, the owners, were very kind and gracious hosts. We mentioned we were going to have dinner at a certain place and Dori immediately remembered a courtesy coupon she had seen for our choice of restaurant, and insisted on getting it for us. They were very hospitable and I especially liked that when I had booked the reservation, I asked if they had any military discount as I had served in the Army Reserve and some hotels offer that. Dori told me they didn't have an official policy but that she would be happy to give me a discount in appreciation for my service.

On the way back home I asked my daughter, out of all 5 hotels that we stayed at, which would be her choice if she and her husband were to visit Southern Florida ... her vote (and mine) would go to Atlantic Sands.......with one change......we will stay longer next time.

We stayed here for only two days in Late May, 05 and loved it! We will return. You are just steps from the boardwalk and a gorgeous beach. This little hotel is very informal, with a laid back South Florida friendliness, and very comfortable. The rooms are clean and pleasant and the location is wonderful. You can't do much better than this!

Fun in the sun

My wife and I recently spent a few days at Atlantic Sands. We found our suite to be tastefully furnished, comfortable and clean. The owners and help were all very friendly and charming and made you feel at home right away. From the umbrella shaded table in front of our suite we could see the ocean. The boardwalk and the the beautiful beach with its well groomed stretches of white sand and palm trees were just 40 steps away from our door (we counted the steps). The suite comes with a fully equipped kitchen. However if you do not feel like cooking, restaurants offering tasty food ranging from pizza to elegant French cuisine can be found nearby on the boardwalk. Needless to say we very much enjoyed our all too short stay at this small but delightful place in the sun.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Atlantic Sands for a total of 5 days and 4 nights. You could not ask for a better location, each night was not complete until a walk down the boardwalk was taken. The hospitality of the managers on duty (Dori Lynn and husband Gary) was second to none. These people really try to go out of their way to make sure you truly enjoy your stay at The Atlantic Sands!!!

This is a very cute place to stay right off the Hollywood Broadwalk. Everyone gets a one bedroom apartment with a small kitchen and living room. It is old, quaint and very clean!! We enjoyed everything and the owners are very friendly and eager to make your stay comfortable and fun!

Ahhhhhh.. The sand and the Sun.

I have stayed at the Atlantic Sands on several occasions. Mostly the fourth of July weekdends.
The location is the best. Just about 30 steps to the sand. Lots of great restuarants and shopping, all within walking distance on the famous Broadwalk.
Our unit was clean, cool and comfortable. It was great to have your own full kitchen. Right outside our front door was an area to BBQ, and have friends over for games on the tables outside. There was shade if you wanted it. Sun to sunbathe, and even a hose to cool off.
I am always looking forward to staying at the Atlantic Sands, It has never disappointed me. Is it July yet?

EXTRAORDINARY service!!! Owners really went out of their way to make sure that our stay was a pleasant one AND they helped us find another hotel near our next place of visit. This place is located footsteps from the beach and shopping. Rooms were very clean and you really get a lot for your money. Highly recommended!

The Best Sands are in Hollywood

Our stay at the Sands was fantastic. What i liked the most about it's location and the hotel itself is that there's nothing to do and everything to do. It just depended on what I felt like doing that day.
The accomidations were impeccable which also was a reflection on the staff.
The rooms are cosey, clean and easy to keep that way since for me I hate to work on vacation doing housework. (that's usually what i'am trying to get away from). Anyway, great time.
We my family will be back.

Best family vacation in years

My wife and I and two grand children recently stayed at the Atlantic Sands for two weeks.
The accomadations were excellent and were very family oriented. The management was accomadating and went out of their way to insure that everything we needed was available. The location was just a short walk to the beach and water. The city cleans the beach daily and provides adequate lifegards and security personnel. In addition a short walk on the boardwalk in either direction provides a variety of excellent and reasonably priced reataurants. In addition, ,the city also provides family enteraiment a couple of times a week at the Hollywood Bandshell,which again ,is a short walking distance from the Atlantic Sands. We plan to return and spend our vacation in 2006 at the Atlantic Sands.

Top Local Tips for Hollywood

Coral Castle An hour down the road but you will enjoy. Do the Keys. Everyonw should drive to the keys at least once in thier lives

Parking The Atlantic Sands gives you a permit to park 3 streets North and 3 streets Souith of Hayes. You can usually get a very close space early in the morning or after 5 or 6 when people are leaving for the day.A lot of places on the boardwalk are within walking distance, but there are some nice bistro's downtown near the circle.

THINGS TO DO WE LIVE CLOSE BY AND LOVE COMING TO THE BEACH FOR GETAWAYS...THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING GOING ON ON HOLLYWOOD BEACH...LOTS OF EATING PLACES,(VERY CASUAL) LIVE ENTERTAINMENT AND WEEKEND STREET FAIRS AND CARNIVALS . HOLLYWOOD... ITS THE PLACE TO VISIT OVER AND OVER AGIN..
