While this may be considered a "decent" place to stay in Hollywood, as of 2005 Hollywood is still a run-down place full of runaway teens, homeless people and dirty streets. Someone from small-town-America would probably be shocked at what they booked upon arrival.

Comfort Suites on Highland or Holiday Inn on Highland are better choices in this area, which has been improving of late due to the Hollywood and Highland Mall (------) There is also a Days Inn on SUNSET Blvd two blocks away that is a bit better than Orchid Suites. While the rooms may be spacious and clean, this place is nobody's idea of a "vacation spot".

Hotel ok, but situation... bad

I slept at the orchid suites hotel at the end of May 2004. There's nothing to say about this hotel. Staff is ok, rooms are spatious and clean, so is the bathroom, and you can park your car - free of charge.

But, the location is not great. Should better find a hotel in Santa Monica, because Hollywood is a creepy place to stay.

NO, it's not the Four Seasons, BUT the staff was very friendly and parking was free. Room were large and clean and you're within walking distance to lots of cool stuf.... we would definitly stay there again..

Location, location, location

We have to agree with most of the previous reviews; this is the place to stay in Hollywood. The convenience to everything can't be beat. The Hollywood/Highland entrance is about 100 yards away, through the back entrance, which we discovered after walking around the block a few times. And the best advantage is that it is QUIET. Even on New Years Eve we heard nothing. The rooms are clean, the staff is friendly and we were updated to a King suite, without even asking. The underground parking is safe and I actually used the washer and dryer provided. The Metro is close which we took to the Rose Bowl Parade and Universal Studio. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

A Real Find

For about $90 a night (including tax), I got a full kitchen, a big closet, secure free parking and a comfortable room right behind the Hollywood/Highland shopping center. There's even a little computerized safe you program yourself. The front desk people were very helpful as well. The place is on the old side, the pool isn't heated in December and the layout of my room was odd (the bath was well off from everything else), but who cares? I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

My family and I stayed here in October 2004, after looking and looking on the internet for somewhere to stay that was accessable to everything and affordable I finally picked this place. I am so glad we did
its right behind the Highland Plaza and Chinese theatre. The buses easy to get to, plus the train. Security was good, had laundry and free carparking. We had a room that had a kitchen which is great when your staying for period of time and have children with you. The place wasn't 5 stars but the rooms were clean, the staff were very helpful, we were on a buget and I wouldnt pay 5 star prices for nothing extra accept name. We were just to happy to find a hotel like this in Hollywood, it was the end of our trip and very enjoyable. People and some travel agents had told us not to stay in Hollywood, to stay at Anaheim and travel to Hollywood and other places, don't bloody listen to them.

This hotel was probably in it's prime in the 30s/40s but still maintins a decent appearance today. You can't beat the location, steps away from Hollywood Blvd. The staff was friendly and helpful, the rooms were spacious and clean. My only complaint was the more long term guests were loud in the evening, but not intolerable.

For the price, excellent parking, location and size

Exactly what we expected for the rate we paid. It is a older building, but it is very well kept and the suite was huge. Even if we had brought our three boys, we would have had plenty of room. Your right behind the Kodak Theatre, where they host the Academy Awards. Your two minutes from the metro, which can get you to Universal Studios in 15 minutes (even in rush hour). Your minutes from many other Hollywood attractions. The secure underground parking is a bonus, especially when you have a convertible.

I stayed there for almost two weeks March/April 2004 and found the place to be great! It was in an excellent location (right behind the Hollywood/Highland complex). Parking was secure. Although the rooms were showing their age I thought it overall a really nice place to hang out. Eight of my other friends were on the same trip and I asked the front desk if we could all be on the same floor. They accommodated us and put us all nearby one another. That was pretty awesome! The laundry room was in a secure area next to the parking garage. Everything else was in walking distance and I was pretty satisfied with the service. I would definitely stay there again if I'm in that area.

I read the reviews for this hotel and figured I'd give it a try. It is a bit old, decor-wise, but that has its own charm. The staff were friendly and very helpful (thanks so much to the maid who came running out to give us a forgotten stuffed animal). Loved the security of the gated-off parking.

And as for the location - MAGIC! Walked across the street, through the shopping place and right into a Hollywood premiere!

Only problem we had we was that our hotel room was on the ground floor at the back, and just over the wall there was construction going on. It didn't get real noisy until after 8 a.m., which was fine - it was the fact that the construction workers could peek over the wall and see right into the room! So much for privacy!

Still, a great place and I would happily stay here again (though I'd prefer a room that doesn't attract peeping toms).

You can see LA without a car Contrary to popular mythology, you can see LA without a car. I just did it. LA has a number of rail lines and a very extensive bus system, many of the bus lines run every 12 minutes or less. You can get a pass to ride all lines for a day for just $3--an incredible bargain. Thinking ahead about where you want to go and getting a map of the system and schedules for lines you're likely to use is a good idea. Stay someplace with good transit service like Downtown LA, central Hollywood, Beverly Hills, or santa Monica. Look at the transit system--Metro--website: www.mta.net. You will save money--it's not just the gas, but most restaurants and hotels charge for parking as well. You'll save that considerable hassle of driving in LA traffic. And you'll do better for the environment by causing one less car.
