Great location
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe were still awake at 4.00 AM.... but was the weekend, weekdays there is not much noise.
Great location, great hotel
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe location was the big seller - behind Mann's Chinese Theatre and therefore very close to Hollywood and Highland, Metro station, bus stop, restaurants, etc. The street itself doesn't go through to Hollywood Boulevard so is not a thoroughfare and is therefore very quiet.
The room was very spacious and clean and had a fridge and cooking facilities (for those interested - I had a great time eating at the many restaurants within walking distance).
It is a small hotel and had a very friendly feel to it (staff and other guests were very friendly). The people on the front desk were also very helpful. The hotel also has a computer in the lobby which provides free internet access to all guests (it wasn't always easy to find it free, but it's a great thing to provide and I did manage to get some time to check emails, etc).
Overall, this is a great reasonably priced hotel in a great location.
Excellent, Highly recommended
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe rooms were big, clean and had really comfy beds and the free parking was a big bonus (it is only small and holds about 12 to 14 cars, but if it is full the staff will sort out free parking elsewhere for you)
For breakfast they served bagels, mufffins, croissants, tea, coffee and juice which gave you a nice start to the day.
The free internet access came in handy for checking our emails and planning the rest of our trip around California.
The walls are quite thin and if you get noisy neighbors you may need earplugs to sleep (as we did for 1 night), but other than this I cannot fault this hotel.
I will definately stay here again on my next visit to LA.
Good value budget hotel
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe biggest fault with the hotel for me was road noise. The hotel is in a quiet enough cul de sac, but is only one building away from the main road it runs off, Franklin Ave. This road is always busy and although I live in London, the noise was still pretty loud. The hotel windows are thin, single pane units of flimsy construction and I had to use ear plugs to kill the noise. My room, a deluxe suite (ahem..), was at the front, and the hotel did offer to move me to another room, but it was half way through my stay by this time, and I couldn't be bothered. They do have rooms at the 'back' of the hotel which wouldn't be as affected. The hotel staff were excellent thoughout my stay.
My rooms were simple, clean and thoroughly acceptable. I have to point out that my sink had cracks in it, one of the towels was ripped and the bottom bedsheet had holes in, but this makes it sound worse that it was. (I won't mention that the bath was blocked up for two days..) These things didn't bother me one bit, I just mention it in case anyone reading this has real problems with those kind of issues. I don't. I used my hire car daily and the only day I couldn't get into the small car park out back was the Friday night. I left it anyway, gave the keys to reception and moved it later. Breakfast is an assortment of croissant, bagels and cake, along with a choice of juices and coffee; which you collect and either take to your room, or eat at one of the two tables outside. It truly is nothing special, but gets you going at least.
The hotel is what it is and if you were looking for no frills, budget accomodation in a family friendly area, then this hotel would fit the bill. I will stay there again most definitely.
fabulous
from A TripAdvisor MemberAverage room, nice staff.
from brooklynsdA diamond in the rough
from A TripAdvisor MemberWhen we arrived, we were kindly greeted and instructed where to park our car. Check in was a breeze and we had room 110. The room was decent sized, looked just as pictured on website photos, clean and appeared freshly painted.
After settling in, we walked to Hollywood Blvd. we had no idea how close we were. (Just to give an idea, Orchid, the street the hotel sits on dead ends at the backside of the Kodak Theatre.) The location was fabulous.
The hotel also has a fitness room with men's and women's steam room.
The continental breakfast was tasty and a nice treat. From 8-10am they served bagels, mufffins, croissants, tea, coffee and juice.
Overall, we were very pleased with our stay at the Hollywood Celebrity. I'd recommend it to anyone visiting Hollywood.
Great Service
from CKSLThe rooms are very big and clean too. The hotel provides free internet access. Only negative point was the noisy heater.
What a pleasant surprise!
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe couldn't have chose better! While it isn't as fancy as the Renaissance just next door, it was clean, had very cool decor and was well-maintained. There were some renovations going on (current management appears to be working hard to upgrade the property), but we were never inconvenienced. The rooms are good size (we had a small kitchen, a bedroom and a sitting room in ours). The hotel is located on a quiet, short, almost alley-like street that is directly behind the Kodak Theatre and the Hollywood & Highland Mall (and Metro).
The best part of the Celebrity, though, is the management. They are extremely accommodating and polite. I liked it so much that we stayed again for a week in December and we booked it so my son could stay there a couple weeks in January once school started and he was waiting for his apartment to become available (the staff was also helpful in advising us of the best locations for apartment hunting). My wife and I will be staying there as well when we go for a visit in Spring.
Good location and service, but some problems with the room
from lajollauserMy mom and I arrived to our room which was really stale smelling, but recently renovated - very cute, fresh paint, nice furnishings, even a little kitchen. I was so excited that I found this room from reviews on this website and figured we'd get used to the smell. But then problems began. I'm not sure if the sound-proofing is really bad or if our neighbors were loud or doing something weird, but it sounded like they were jumping or something with the noise we heard, and their talking was almost like they were in our room. My suspicion is just that it's an old building, so every little thing makes a thump. We asked for a change of room because we suspected the neighbors weren't throwing a party or something, the sound-proofing was just bad. The staff tried very hard and showed us a few rooms - one smelled of fresh paint, so the staff was concerned we'd get a headache. The other was as noisy as the first room because it was nearly below the same neighbors.
Finally, we settled on an UNRENOVATED room. I figured - who cares about paint and furnishings, let's get a good night's sleep. (In the hotel's defense, I picked this room out of the options.) The sink was not draining at all when I brushed my teeth - I had to remove the little drain plug thing. We did sleep. . . my mom took the first shower - the cold water was not working. I had to get a key to our old room to go across the hall to shower. Then, the toilet overflowed with a small amount of paper. The management apologized and gave us $20 off, which was some relief for the horrible night/morning. They said they would not have anyone else stay in there until the plumbing problems are fixed. I admit we might have avoided some of this mess (the sink, shower, and toilet problems) if we had just stayed in our first noisy room with earplugs.
In sum: the renovated rooms are nice if you have a quiet neighbor, or BRING EARPLUGS. The unrenovated rooms are just plain bad. In the hotel's defense, they did try to give us a renovated room - they showed us everything available but each had problems (noise or were in the middle of renovation/paint). The location is great and pretty removed from street noise after 11 p.m. Breakfast is only 8-10 a.m., so if you are leaving early, you're out of luck. If you just want a bed in a safe location and have a good pair of earplugs, this works. I expected a little more. The lobby was nice, and the service was good, though.
If you do stay there, back into your parking place for your best bet on getting out of their lot! (It's a busy street and would be hard to back out of in the morning.)
Top Local Tips for Hollywood
Taxi Ride to the Airport If I had to do it over I would either not take the taxi to the airport or I would go for the flat rate. The trip from the hotel to LAX cost us $64.50 and it was only about 14 miles. We had to tell them when we called if we wanted a metered rate or a flat rate. The hotel told us the flat rate was $55 but when we got in the cab it was posted as $42. When we arrived at LAX we took a shuttle to the hotel and it was only $37. We were trying to make the most of our time on the last day and opted for the cab. It was a mistake!
Easy access to the Red Line and Hollywood/Highland At the end of the street is the back of the Kodak Theater. Cut through the parking entrance to the Renaissance to get to Hollywood and Highland. Subway is to your left on Hollywood Blvd. Easy to get around and a great way to see the sights without a car. You can easily walk to Universal Studios using the studio, as well as head downtown to Union Station and see Olvera Street across the street. Also, easy walking to all the sights on Hollywood Blvd.
Places to visit in Los Angeles Make sure to visit the Farmer's Market / Grove, Universal Studios / Citywalk, Venice beach, Rodeo Drive, Santa Monica Beach / 3rd St Promenade, and do a live show taping. We saw Jimmy Kimmel Live! Eat at the Famer's Market at this Brazilian BBQ spot called Pampas, great food!
