A True Gem in West Hollywood
from A TripAdvisor MemberExcellent Value, location

from washdctravelBut it's still just a minute's walk from Santa Monica Blvd, and in about 5 minutes you can walk to the Sunset strip. There is also an excellent Trader Joe's store practically outside the hotel, which is great for stocking up on essentials.
The standard rooms are fitted with a fridge and microwave; don't go expecting a full kitchen for cooking meals. But there are so many excellent restaurants in the city, it's not a great idea to want to eat in your room.
I thought the furniture was adequate, if starting to show signs of age. The bed was nice and big, but the sofa in the room was ripped in a couple of places, and the carpet was worn down quite badly in a few spots. It's the only reason for not giving this place five out of five.
Oh, and I loved the rooftop pool. Even at midday on a sunny weekend, there were only a couple of people poolside. You can swim or sit in the jacuzzi and get great views of Los Angeles in all directions. A really welcome perk. The hotel gym is tiny, but at least everything was in working order.
But anyone looking at this hotel should be aware that West Hollywood is essentailly the gay capital of Los Angeles. Didn't bother me, but anyone who can't cope with seeing two men holding hands in public should definitely choose somewhere else.
I chose the place because it was well-priced and in a quiet part of town. But the nightlife seems vibrant (although given its, uh, niche market I didn't experience much of it) and there are also some nice restaurants nearby. I'll definitely stay here again.
Great location at a good price
from A TripAdvisor MemberDecent but needs work!
from A TripAdvisor MemberA Charming Time
from A TripAdvisor MemberHowever, my suite was amazing. I lucked out with a beautiful view of the city. The suite was incredibly quiet and very attractive. I travel a lot and have never slept in a more comfortable bed! The staff, from the janitors to the super front desk folks to the maids, were outstanding--consistently courteous and helpful.
The roof pool & hot tub were in such an attractive setting: a panoramic view of LA in all directions, with potted plants and cushioned chaises. The location was also terrific--a quiet street withint walking distance of restaurants, Trader Joe's (the world's greatest grocery store) and Sunset Strip.
I'm a little sorry they're renovating, because that means the prices will be higher. I will always remember my stay fondly.
Great Value, Great Staff, Great Location
from A TripAdvisor MemberRelaxing poolside on the rooftop pool, in the very comfortable lounges, was a great way to recharge after a day around town, before going out later for the excellent nightlife in West Hollywood. It is an easy walk down to Santa Monica Boulevard for a varied selection of places to eat, or grab a beer. It is an uphill walk to the Sunset Strip, but it’s not far.
West Hollywood is safe, clean, beautiful, and quite gay. If none of those appeal to you, perhaps you would be better off staying in downtown L.A. I find it the best place to stay when visiting the L.A. area, and this hotel is tops in my book.
seriusly in need of updating
from NewJerseyNancyThe hotel was quiet, for the most part, and staff was decent. The buffet breakfast was nothing great.
I would say avoid this place, until it is renovated. (September, 2004?). It was depressing, even to my kids!

Nice hotel; good value

a free but great side trip get to see LA and the best of it with a drive up into the hills, take Mullholland Drive and then the back roads through Topanga Canyon down to the Pacific Coast Highway (US1)... If you get lost...don't sweat it..keep heading west and the ocean will set you on track... the views and the drive in a convertable are sweet and if you pass the Inn of the Seventh Ray and they can take you for dinner...go for it, interesting food, great outdoor dining and very very California "laid back"...once vegan now mainstream
Groceries in the area If you're in for an extended stay (like me) and need some water/prepared food, fruit, etc on the cheap--there's a Trader Joe's literally down the block (if you keep walking down Westmount towards Santa Monica Dr) and a Whole Foods just a short drive on Santa Monica. I saved money on breakfast by buying cereal and storing Soy Milk in the fridge in the room.
Dearly Departed Tour This is a fantastic tour that takes you on a three hour trip to see the final destinations of famous people. It is not macabre and Scott, the tour guide, has a wonderful sense of humour. You also get to see a lot of the stars' houses. Would do this again in a heartbeat.
