A True Gem in West Hollywood

from A TripAdvisor Member
Don't let the construction fool you... once you arrive at your suite, any doubts will vanish! This hotel is the best value in West Hollywood!!! The inviting fireplace, the spacious living area, and the MOST COMFORTABLE BED you've ever slept in awaits you. There are nice touches added, too, like the minibar, plasma flat-screen TV, plush sofa, and upperclass bathroom. All of it makes you feel like you should have paid A LOT more to stay there. I stayed on a busy weekend so my only complaint was the noise down below (but I blame spring breakers more than anything else). Since it's located in a residential area, I was told it's normally quite. In any event, the continental breakfast was standard (no hot foods... just pastries, fruit, and expected beverage service). There's an underground parking lot ($20 a night) that has some tight spaces, but it wasn't too bad. The service was first-class and the staff truly made a point to make you feel at home.

Excellent Value, location

Stayed for ten days in mid January. Excellent renovated rooms, staff helpful, great location. Lobby was under construction, but was really no problem. Would definitely make this a base again.

excellent renovation

Just got back from two nights at the Wyndham. Having stayed at other West Hollywood hotels, including the top rated LeMontrose, the Summerfield Suites is now just as nice or nicer for much less $$$. Yes they are renovating all of the rooms. Our brand new "room" if you can call it that is immense. Beautiful furnishings, flat screen TV, down comforter, fireplace, balcony, on and on. Booked on Wyndhams site for $124. $50 less than the competition. Yes, there was some construction noise, pounding and sawing. They even had to turn off the water for a couple hours one day while doing some construction, but everything was handled well. Pool is small but nice. Breakfast buffet quite good, but get there early. Garage parking at $18 is actually low for the area and quite worth it. Renovation is supposed to be completed around the New Year. Will definitely stay there on our next trip.

Great Stay

After staying at a nearby hotel with thin walls and a room on Santa Monica Blvd, it was a blessing to be at the Summerfield Suites, which is in a very quiet part of West Hollywood, tucked away on a residential street.

But it's still just a minute's walk from Santa Monica Blvd, and in about 5 minutes you can walk to the Sunset strip. There is also an excellent Trader Joe's store practically outside the hotel, which is great for stocking up on essentials.

The standard rooms are fitted with a fridge and microwave; don't go expecting a full kitchen for cooking meals. But there are so many excellent restaurants in the city, it's not a great idea to want to eat in your room.

I thought the furniture was adequate, if starting to show signs of age. The bed was nice and big, but the sofa in the room was ripped in a couple of places, and the carpet was worn down quite badly in a few spots. It's the only reason for not giving this place five out of five.

Oh, and I loved the rooftop pool. Even at midday on a sunny weekend, there were only a couple of people poolside. You can swim or sit in the jacuzzi and get great views of Los Angeles in all directions. A really welcome perk. The hotel gym is tiny, but at least everything was in working order.

But anyone looking at this hotel should be aware that West Hollywood is essentailly the gay capital of Los Angeles. Didn't bother me, but anyone who can't cope with seeing two men holding hands in public should definitely choose somewhere else.

I chose the place because it was well-priced and in a quiet part of town. But the nightlife seems vibrant (although given its, uh, niche market I didn't experience much of it) and there are also some nice restaurants nearby. I'll definitely stay here again.

Great location at a good price

We used the Trip Advisor to help plan our trip to LA. The advise from others helped us find this nice motel. The breakfast was fantastic and the rooms were comfortable. The location between Santa Monica and Sunset strip was perfect. We stayed 5 days and enjoyed it very much. Only negative I have is that the elevators didn't work good. Next time I will stay on 1st floor.

Decent but needs work!

The hotel is in a great location. It was fairly secluded and quiet. It's minutes away from Sunset Blvd and Beverly Hills. My wife and I read reviews of the hotel before we traveled and I remember a comment on the dated furniture. I must admit when we arrived and saw the furniture we had to agree with the comment. What really angered me though was the fact that there pipelines must have been all connected to the same place because every morning it was guaranteed that when I took a shower there would be a few times that someone in the building would flush there toilet and my water would instantly turn ice cold. Not gradual but instant. We stayed at Summerfield Suites from Sunday to Sunday and I must tell you that that really angered me. I personally thought that was really tacky. The food was not that bad. The pancakes were a little rubbery at times but tolerable. Because I know the hotel does well, I see no reason they have not taken the time to update there establishment.. Other than that we had a pleasant stay.

A Charming Time

In April 2004 I booked a one-bedroom suite for 12 days. The only reason not to give an excellent rating was the shabbiness of the furniture and carpet, and a very mediocre breakfast in a room with a giant TV blasting...ugh.
However, my suite was amazing. I lucked out with a beautiful view of the city. The suite was incredibly quiet and very attractive. I travel a lot and have never slept in a more comfortable bed! The staff, from the janitors to the super front desk folks to the maids, were outstanding--consistently courteous and helpful.
The roof pool & hot tub were in such an attractive setting: a panoramic view of LA in all directions, with potted plants and cushioned chaises. The location was also terrific--a quiet street withint walking distance of restaurants, Trader Joe's (the world's greatest grocery store) and Sunset Strip.
I'm a little sorry they're renovating, because that means the prices will be higher. I will always remember my stay fondly.

Great Value, Great Staff, Great Location

Admittedly the furniture in the “apartments” (they are more than rooms) is a bit dated, but our one bedroom apartment was clean, and very roomy. The hotel staff was the best. There is a little convenience store in the lobby with a good selection of microwavable meals and snacks, and the prices are reasonable. Makes it really easy to pop out of your room late at night, get a snack, and prepare it in your own kitchen.

Relaxing poolside on the rooftop pool, in the very comfortable lounges, was a great way to recharge after a day around town, before going out later for the excellent nightlife in West Hollywood. It is an easy walk down to Santa Monica Boulevard for a varied selection of places to eat, or grab a beer. It is an uphill walk to the Sunset Strip, but it’s not far.

West Hollywood is safe, clean, beautiful, and quite gay. If none of those appeal to you, perhaps you would be better off staying in downtown L.A. I find it the best place to stay when visiting the L.A. area, and this hotel is tops in my book.

seriusly in need of updating

from NewJerseyNancy
We stayed 4 nights at this hotel the last week in June, 2004. Our suite was quite spacious, but VERY dark and dated. It also reeked of smoke, despite the fact we requested a no smoking room. The carpet had holes in it and was very worn. The air conditioning was the wall unit type-WAY too loud!

The hotel was quiet, for the most part, and staff was decent. The buffet breakfast was nothing great.
I would say avoid this place, until it is renovated. (September, 2004?). It was depressing, even to my kids!

Nice hotel; good value

from lthorne
My family spent a week in Hollywood over Spring Break and stayed at the Wyndham Summerfield Suites in West Hollywood. It is located in a residential area between Santa Monica & Sunset Blvd., within walking distance of shopping & restaurants. At first, I balked at the $18 per night parking fee, but I found that this is not unusual in Los Angeles. Our rooms included free breakfast each morning and each room included separate bedroom, living room & kitchen. It was not the fanciest hotel we have stayed in, but it was very clean, well run, and a good value. I would recommend it to anyone.

Top Local Tips for Hollywood

a free but great side trip get to see LA and the best of it with a drive up into the hills, take Mullholland Drive and then the back roads through Topanga Canyon down to the Pacific Coast Highway (US1)... If you get lost...don't sweat it..keep heading west and the ocean will set you on track... the views and the drive in a convertable are sweet and if you pass the Inn of the Seventh Ray and they can take you for dinner...go for it, interesting food, great outdoor dining and very very California "laid back"...once vegan now mainstream

Groceries in the area If you're in for an extended stay (like me) and need some water/prepared food, fruit, etc on the cheap--there's a Trader Joe's literally down the block (if you keep walking down Westmount towards Santa Monica Dr) and a Whole Foods just a short drive on Santa Monica. I saved money on breakfast by buying cereal and storing Soy Milk in the fridge in the room.

Dearly Departed Tour This is a fantastic tour that takes you on a three hour trip to see the final destinations of famous people. It is not macabre and Scott, the tour guide, has a wonderful sense of humour. You also get to see a lot of the stars' houses. Would do this again in a heartbeat.
