The Bed Bugs Bite!

from Kari76Dixon
First, it is not an "inn" as titled, it is a hotel. Second, the staff is not friendly nor helpful. And third, they have bed bugs! We noticed in the morning when one crawled across my mother's pillow. She then checked at the foot of her bed and found one dead and one alive (the live one burst full of blood when she killed it because apparently it had been biting her throughout the night). The small specks of blood in her bed and in mine and my daughter's as well confirmed that we had all been bitten as we slept. More importantly, it was denied by staff until shown photos (which I've included here), and no apology or compensation was offered. If you have seen any television programs on bed bugs you know that they cannot be eliminated so beware.

Pros: Good location (close to “Walk of Fame”), free parking, free internet
Cons: Needs renovating, expensive for Best Western, poor staff

I stayed at this hotel for one night with friends to see a taping of the Tonight Show. I chose this hotel because it looked like a nice motel from the pictures. I was disappointed.

There was nothing too special with check in. While the staff certainly wasn’t rude, they didn’t smile or ever go out of their way. The lobby was tiny though was well kept. Our second floor room was clean (most importantly) though reminded me of a Motel 6 with only VERY basic amenities. It seemed worn with outdated furnishings and dark green carpet. I liked the free parking and free internet (however I had to go to the lobby with my laptop for a wired connection). I did not use the pool, though again it looked like one you would see at a Motel 6.

The location was in walking distance to the “Walk of Fame”, though is definitely not a stretch you want to walk at night (lots of bums and dingy old buildings).

In conclusion, stay at the Holiday Inn for the same price (much, much, much nicer in every way) or pay a little more and stay at the Hilton.

Good value

This standard chain motel provides good value for money - $79 plus tax for a double room. Rooms are very small, but are clean and have microwave and fridge as well as coffee maker which is a bonus. The reflective glass walls fronting onto Highland cut out most of the (busy) traffic, but the courtyard style layout means that things got very noisy on a Saturday night when smokers would hang around on the balconies talking to all hours. Parking is tight, but its free.

The location is the best thing about this motel, a short walk from Hollywood Boulevard, Mann's etc. Having stayed at some fairly gnarly 'independent' motels on our 4 week odyssey around California, I learnt that the chains are the most reliable family accommodation.

New Very Comfortable Beds!

from SFOF/A
We stayed at this Best Western hotel Jan 6-8, a Friday and Saturday night. Our room was remodeled and very clean, with 2 extremely comfortable large beds. The bedspreads looked new. The room had a coffee maker, small fridge, microwave, ironing board and iron. We used them all. This hotel is very close to everything in Hollywood. I like to sleep with the sound of the airconditioner, we didn't need the cool air, but we used the fan only. If there was noise outside, we didn't hear it. The pool is small, but very cute in a Hollywood 1950's way, with trees surrounding it. The parking lot is small but we found parking both nights, getting in after midnight. Some of the SUV's parked along the side of the hotel rather than in the smallish parking spots. I think this is a great place to stay with a AAA internet discount. I'll be back!

motel time machine

We stayed here for one night as we coming into L.A. to attend a wedding.

As previously stated, the black glass facade in the front of the property gives you the impression that it's an enclosed building instead of a motel where all of the rooms open to the outside.

The entire time I was in this motel (NOT a hotel!), I felt as if I was in the 1970s as the style of the place hasn't been updated for some time. Not charming, rather mid-century low-rent.

Not enough parking inside the motel, which is a serious issue as the hotel is on a very busy avenue (little street-side parking).

The coffee shop is ok as a diner-type of place.

Great for tourists

Check in went great. We bought our Universal Studio's tickets in the lobby and saved $5, that is the good news. The bad news about purchasing your Universal tickets here is that they could not provide change, we had to wait until our check out before they gave us our change.

It is not a hotel or inn. They have designed the outside of it so it looks like a glass building, but once you are inside you will see it is a motel. They disguised the front to make it look nicer. There is no room service, but a little coffee shop next to the lobby. It is run by 2 old sisters who don't speak much English. IF they notice you when you sit down they will ask if you want a cup of coffee, if you say no just water or juice they don't understand and you will have nothing to drink. We learned to just say yes to coffee. Prices were very cheap here, but it is frusterating trying to understand the sisters and waiting for service.

Parking was horrible at night. They have a very limited amount of parking spaces, so some people parked along the sides of walls blocking the enterance to the elevators, doors, and even the driveway to the hotel. We asked about parking at the Holiday inn next door since there was no place to park, but that was not allowed.

Pool was nice, hot tub could have been hotter.

Great location so you can walk to the Walk of Fame, Chinese Theater, museums, Kodak, Hollywood and Highland Complex. Great location for anyone on vacation and you won't mind your stay if you are not planning on spending much time in the hotel.

Best Western Hollywood Plaza Inn

from A TripAdvisor Member
My family of 4 stayed at the Hollywood Plaza Inn. The parking was inadequate, but the room was nice for the price we paid. This is not a luxurious hotel but gives you a clean and safe place to stay. To our suprise the room had a microwave and refrigerator which was nice to have. The staff were curtious. The nicest thing was that we were close enough to most of the things we wanted to do that we could walk. Driving in L.A. is terrible so it was nice to not drive much. We would stay again.

s not a Inn!

This is the best hotel review on the net! Or at least the most accurate. Anyway the pluses are that the rooms are clean enough (the pillows not), it does have a adult size pool w/ hot tub, and the great location esp to the Hollywood Bowl which is a 3-4 block walking distance and on the same side of the Bowl (it is important w/Highland Ave. constant flowing/fast traffic) and free parking albeit a little cramped. The minuses the heating/cooling is not adequate enough, and the "Inn" is really a motel covered with a glass facade (It does help block the noise of Highland Ave-which is very busy all day and night), the rooms are small and there is no continental breakfast (for those who are on a budget on $ and time it's nice to have). We stayed for two nights across the street at the Comfort Inn & Suites which was better. I recommend it for a night stay esp. w/a concert at the Hollywood Bowl (we saw Cher's last show or tour or who knows really?). It is about 4 blocks to Hollywood Blvd. and the sites - Grumanns Chinese theater so on. See my review for the Comfort Inn & Suites to decide on your own. A two star hotel (LOL motel) at best.

So-So hotel

from You15
Customer service: There was no customer service. The front desk was left unattended most of the times. Impossible to reach front desk by room telephone, I let the phone ring for 10 times and had to hang up and call again before they answered. I just had a simple question.

Coffee Shop: Only open 2-7pm during the weekends. Unclear what the hours are for the weekdays. I was under the impression that the coffee shop would be a convience. Did not turn out that way.

Room: Clean, older decore, televison channels came in with a lot of snow.

Comfort: Very noisy, could hear residents shouting and partying, slamming doors, taking showers, playing music, driving up in their cars - the design of the building had a lot to do with the automobile noise because parking was underneath the hotel. I think the noise of shouting and partying was due to the hotel being so close to clubs in Hollywood and people coming back to continue partying after the clubs shut-down.

I will not stay at the hotel when I return to Hollywood.

Restaurant O.K.

from A TripAdvisor Member
It's an older motel fronted to look like a hotel. Vehicle access is difficult, the signage hard to discern. Apparently homeless individuals loitered in the walkways. My room lacked a washcloth and a bedside lamp didn’t work (it wasn’t plugged in). The little restaurant was cozy; the food and service there were good. A book I had briefly left on my table was apparently lifted. The rates and location of this motel are desirable, but I will choose differently next time.

Top Local Tips for Hollywood

Must see If you love architecture, don't miss the Getty Museum. I spent more time feasting on the buildings and the gardens outside (it was a beautiful warm day after a long cold winter) than on the exhibits.Take the docent-led tour which explains the whys of its design and points out things you might never have noticed!

Best beach The best beach we found was Zuma beach at Point Dume just west of Malibu. Awesome beach and great swimming. Point Dume is also great to hike around and was used in the original Planet of the Apes movie. We spent hours there swimming and laying on the beach. The other beach which we liked was at the end of LAX airport.

Hollywood Boulevard/Down Town LA Don't expect to see stars or well attired people on the streets. The Boulevard is tacky and rundown. The Chinese Theatre is in the process of overhaul. The stores are full of trashy merchandise, or are closed. Down town LA looks like a poor third world country with cement sidewalks. My impression of the entire area was not good. The Norton Simon and the Exposition Park Museums are worth the trip, especially on the Metro. So is the Farmers Market. Using the Metro system is quick and cheap. Regular fare is $5 for a full day. Seniors and handicap are charged $1.80. That'll take a person from one end of the county to the other. Even getting lost is no problem, when there isn't a car to consider. Just hop onto the returning bus or rail car, and go back/forward to the correct destination in minutes.
