Historical Traveller Reviews of Embassy Suites Hotel LAX South

Reasonable experience.

from SiddMoras
I have a mixed review for the place. the rooms (suites) were pretty good and very good value if you're a family. 2 TVs a large king bed and a sofa in the other room. you could probably ask for an extra rollaway bed.

Breakfast is nice.

However the decor of the main hall is a letdown. Looks more 'motelish'. Also you cannot open the windows in most rooms.

Overall rating. good but nothing great.

s not easy for a family of 5

from GENOVESA
We are a family of 5, and it's getting harder to find a hotel that can accomodate us all. Most hotels offer 2 rooms, which is a very expensive solution. We found the Embassy Suites South (there is a North) with an excellent location (very close to LAX airport). The hotel was clean, there is a room with 2 double (not QUEEN) beds and a sofa-bed that is probably a little bigger than a double. Two TVs, one bathroom, a fridge, a microwave... and they offer complimentary breakfast that was really a surprise (juices, pastries, scrambled eggs, coffee and the option to have some things made for you right there -pancakes, waffles, toast, etc.-) The staff is not particularly friendly, but the place is nice and clean. We arrived very early in the morning and they charged us $144 plus taxes (we were paying $209 plus taxes per night) to sleep from 6 till 3pm their official "check in time". So if you arrive in a very early flight... don't think about going to the hotel too early...

Overall it was a good option and I would return.

Embassy Suites never disappoint

GREAT STAY! Good price too

from LOARA71
We stayed at the Embassy Suites LAX south this past weekend. We were MORE THAN PLEASED. We have traveled a lot the past 4 years overseas (twice) and locally in and around LA. We have a 21 year old mentally disabled daughter. My husband and I have to get a room for 3 adults when we go with her. She is too afraid to be alone. Therefore, we look for suites with three beds or a sofa. We found exactly what we needed at the Embassy suites AND A LOT MORE.
Here are the positive things about our stay:
1. We had a great room, clean and quite as well. We found no problem with the atrium as some had mentioned on prior post. (I am a very lite sleeper and so is our daughter who slept on the sofa bed in the front of our suite.)
2. The hotel is very well kept and has a beautiful atrium area with real ducks and turtles as well.
3. The breakfast was very nice and offered a lot too since it was free with your room.
4. The hotel staff were very nice and friendly as well. They also answer the phone quickly, EVEN at late hours.
5. LAST, and most important.... Listen to this... They also DID NOT CHARGE us an extra $20 for our daughter for the adult price since she was DISABLED. This was great. We have never been offered this. Yes, she is like a 10 year old but we always had to pay full adult price since she was in a room with us. THANK YOU Embassy suites for this. We were so impressed that a big hotel chain would also realize that we didn't want to just squeeze into a room for a cheaper price. We would have paid the higher price if need be. However, our daughter is not capable of staying alone by herself either in another room.
We are very pleased at choosing this hotel and will always, from now on choose this hotel if we need to be close to the airport.
VERY SATISFIED!

Good value with sunny atrium

from 1bookworm
After a disappointing stay at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel we were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Although the room could use some updating...pretty worn out decor--it was spacious and comfortable. We loved the friendlier feel of this hotel. The huge skylight/atrium in the middle of the hotel lit up the interior so it was bright inside. This hotel includes a really decent breakfast buffet with a chef to make you eggs, pancakes or french toast to order. They also had cereals, pastries and fresh fruit, coffee, juice, etc. The location was very convenient to the airport and major highways and is adjacent to a rental car place (I think it was Budget). You have to pay $20/day for parking in the hotel garage in addition to the room cost but they validate the ticket at the front desk so you can go in and out as much as you want for the day.

Ok hotel, noisy atrium

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel and its staff were reasonably pleasant, but my main complaint is the noise in the atrium that made it hard to sleep in my suite's living room (which has a fold-out couch with a somewhat uncomfortable mattress). Events in the meeting rooms were noisy at night, as was a guy talking on his cell phone on the balcony a few floors below. And in the morning there was noise from people having the free breakfast, and from bass sounds coming from the TVs in the breakfast area.

As others have posted, the shuttle to the airport runs only every 20 to 30 minutes, and there's nothing within walking distance except office buildings and truck parking lots. It would be about a half hour walk from the airport terminals, but pedestrians are prohibited in the Sepulveda Boulevard tunnel under the runways. The beach is 2 miles west but it's an undeveloped state park. Beach towns with restaurants and shops are a 20 minute drive north or south.

The breakfast was good, but the made-to-order line was really long. They also had scrambled eggs and french toast in the buffet, which had no line. There was also as cold cereal, fresh fruit, muffins, and mini-bagels.

Calls to 800 numbers are free from the room phone, which is useful for people using calling cards.

very nice

nice room. i liked it even better than the other lax embassy suites

Worked perfectly

from Go-Buffs-Go
I stayed here for business with colleagues and found the hotel to be ideal for our purposes. Since we wanted a hotel close to the office so we wouldn't need a car (the hotel even gave me a ride to the office in the morning), we chose the Embassy Suites. Although the area is not the type of area you can walk around in after dark, the hotel was wonderfully self-contained and offered everything we needed. We ended up taking a $20 cab ride to Hermosa Beach for dinner but this was purely our choice as they had a nice restaurant onsite. If you're traveling solo and have business in this area, this is a great choice.

Not a bad Airport Hotel

from s25843
Let me start off by saying that I am a Hilton Honors Silver VIP, and usually stay in Hilton Brand Hotels 5-10 times a year, and other brands another 5-10 times a year.

Rate:
$139/Per night, $150.25 W/ Tax
Rooms:
The Rooms are large 2 room suites, with a living area with a table and 3 chairs, pull out sofabed, sitting chair, large tv, and a bar area with sink, fridge, and plenty of room. In the bedroom, there are either 2 doubles, or 1 queen bed, and a wall-wall storage unit with a sink, TV, and plenty of drawer and closet space.

The bathroom was not large, and was standard, but clean.

There is a small balcony, large enough to stand, but not sit on.

Service:
The staff was friendly, and helpful. There is an airport shuttle that runs every 30 minutes from 5:30am-10pm. Inbetween 10pm-5am, the shuttle runs on-demand. Upon arrival at LAX, I called the hotel, and a shuttle was there to pick me up within 10 minutes. Upon departure the next morning (6am) I was the only one on the shuttle, and asked the driver to make a small detour at the Bank of America down the street, to stop at the ATM. He was more than happy to stop for me, and I sitll made it to the airport within 10 minutes of leaving.

Condition of Rooms:
The rooms are not ultra new, however they were clean and fairly modern.

Dining:
I ate lunch at the lobby bar, and the food was very good. There is an evening reception with cocktails and snacks, and a breakfast buffet at 6am. I was not able to expirence either one, but, if they are like other Embassay Suites, they should be fairly decent for a complementary service.

If I need a close hotel near LAX, I WILL stay here again in the future

t be back

We stayed overnight prior to a early AM LAX flight with our 3 school-age-children. I dropped off the rental car, but the rental car shuttle wouldn't drop me off on this side of the airport (unlike when I stayed at the other Embassy there). They dropped me off at the airport gate, and I called for the hotel shuttle - the phone rang and rang, no one ever picked up. I finally called the hotel on my cellphone and got the desk clerk, who sent the shuttle about 20 minutes later. The hotel is across the street from the airport runways, but this is a BIG airport. It is at least a 10 minute drive to the airport gates. The room was adequate, quiet, spacious and clean. We took a short swim in the small indoor pool, the water pool was murky. The exercise room is tiny. There is a small free buffet in the courtyard, chips, popcorn, beer, wine. The AM shuttle to the airport was fine. Next time, we'll try something else.

Top Local Tips for El Segundo

Great Pizza place on main street a few blocks from the hotel Eat at Stuft pizza on Monday nights and they even deliver to the hotel.

Close to LAX If you're heading to one of the airport hotels at LAX, make sure you call on the courtesy phone first to ensure a shuttle pickup. LAX Airport Authority is now charging the hotels EACH TIME their shuttle van comes around, so the normal parade of vans will soon become a thing of the past.

beaches take the time to drive down to Manhattan and Hermosa beaches--great taste of California beach living, nice beach, and a laid back atmosphere
