When we booked the room we asked for a quiet room. We were told there was a restaurant next door but it shouldn't be a problem since they were unaware of any weddings going on that weekend. Uur "Pacific Edge" room #302 was about 100 feet from the deck/patio of this restaurant. There was a VERY LOUD wedding going on, complete with booming bass and loud d.j. Blue Lantern told us "there's nothing we can do." This did not turn out to be the romantic, quiet get-away weekend we had planned. We felt we were deceived just so they could book a room. The room was nice with a fireplace, but had an odd smell as if it was recently disinfected. One other comment is that the hot water/coffee/foods were not being monitored by anyone and we had to find someone to ask for hot water at afternoon tea, and fruit at breakfast. The Inn is quaint and well located but we will not return.

Top Local Tips for Dana Point

early morning Start the day by driving down to the harbor and parking near the aquarium. Enjoy the walk past tall ships, through native plants, and down to the rocky shoreline.

Restaurant Recommendation and Art Festival Had a FABULOUS scallop dinner at Salt Creek Restaurant on the PCH (north of Blue Lantern Inn) about 5 minutes away. Laguna Beach Sawdust Art Festival was delightful. Nice novice surfer beach in Dana Point. Not much else to do there really but it is quieter than Laguna Beach.

Restaruants, Beaches, Shopping We really enjoy Gimelli's restaurant nearby. Good prices, especially early dining prices, great french food, large servings. We have a favorite beach we go to, by the ocean institute - waves crashing on the large rocks- locals go there to sit on the benches and watch the sunset. Another beach is just south of the Jolly Roger Restaurant - hundreds of seagulls sit there. Also, I enjoy going south into the beach town of San Clemente. Great beach and pier, where you can watch the surfers. There is a restaurant overlooking the ocean there. Dana Point's harbor is fun - lots of cute shops, walking around the harbor, restaurants, and an outdoor coffee hangout facing the boats.
