Fantastic Location AND Service

from thiakopes
We stayed at the GBI from 26-28 September 2004.
Rosietta at the front desk was absolutely wonderful and upgraded us to the Mansion rooms at no extra charge.
The hotel is splendid and in an excellent location. Across the road is the Hotel Del Coroado and the beach.
The bus to San diego downtown stops in fron of the hotel which elimantes expensive Taxi charges as well. The hotel has all facilities covered and offers complimentry internet in the business office.
AFter travelling around the world for 3 months and staying in some stunning hotels, this was the perfect way to end our trip. Thanks all at GBI.

Great Family Trip to Coronado

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at Glorietta Bay in for a week in July, 2004 and had a wonderful trip. It is a short walk across the street to a great beach. A very nice variety of restaurants was available on the main drag of Coronado Island. The front desk staff were always friendly and the pool was small, but fun for the kids. The hotel is small and has a nice intimate feel. The housekeeping was a little spotty. We could never predict when they were coming and they never left enough towels. Fortunately getting extra towels from the pool is easy. Breakfast is simple, but good every morning. We almost never made it for afternoon snack which was nondescript cookies most of the time. The kitchen had very few pots and pans, but we did not care as we never cooked. The kids slept comfortably on the living area sofa bed and loved having their own TV. One complaint was the lack of light proof curtains in our bedroom which helps in getting extra sleep on vacation. The window is single pane and some noise comes in from the back alley as well. Also not a lot of places to stash your stuff, just one armoir and a few drawers. We would stay again for the price and location.

My most relaxing summer vacation ever!

from AZBearDown
My family stayed at the Glorietta Bay Inn for our annual summer vacation for six nights in August. My wife and I stayed in Mansion Room 106 and my mother and sister stayed in Mansion Room 126. In a word our stay was excellent. The Mansion at the Glorietta Bay is the only place to stay on Coronado Island.
Our room was tastefully decorated with an absolutely heavenly feather bed. We had a very slight ocean view but most of our windows opened so that we could feel that ocean breeze regardless. My sister's room had at least five windows with a nice bay view, a couch, table and two queen feather beds. Both rooms could not have been more comfortable.
Extras like homemade chocolate chip cookies with milk in the evening, friendly staff members who were always willing to help, a location just down the block from the beach, restaurants within a short walking distance and a feeling that this is your home away from home, made our trip extra special.
The Glorietta's mansion rooms certainly would not be considered cheap but I thought the location, comfort, and homely feel was worth it. Actually we already booked mansion rooms for next year's summer trip to Coronado Island.

Felt right at home...

We stayed here for 3 nights in June, and I hated to leave! The room was beautifully decorated, although a little small. But most things in those parts seem to be that way so that is okay with me. I could not get enough of the wonderful coffee they kept 24/7 in the lobby. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. Maybe the price would seem a little high to some, but it is competitive with others in the area and you are paying for location. My only complaint would be that the crosswalks to the beach are kind of out of the way, but hey, I needed to exercise anyway! There are some great restraunts within walking distance. Try the mexican food place that is part of the Brigantine. YUM. Anyway, this place is quaint & friendly, and I will go there again.

Fabulous Getaway!

The Glorietta Bay Inn was a wonderful part of my fiance's 40th birthday. I appreciated the little touches that the staff added to the room, a birthday note, balloons, and a bottle of wine.

The linens and bedding are not the usual hotel industrial quality that I find when I travel. The sheets are very high thread count, smooth and soft. The mattress and pillows were very comfortable, something that I would buy for my own home. The thick robes and large towels were comfortable too.

We had to check out early, before the normal breakfast delivery time. I had added a note to my order in hopes that I might be able to get breakfast before check-out. The staff read the note and delivered breakfast 40 minutes before their normal start time! The fruit was fresh, nicely toasted bagels, and hot eggs and coffee was a great finale to our stay.

Glorietta Bay Inn was Spectacular!

Absolutely loved this place!

The room, property, area and amenities were super!

Excellent continental breakfast.

Nice location if you are visiting the Zoo, Sea World and the Pacific Ocean. Plenty of excellent shops and restaurants.

The staff were extraordinarily friendly and helpful.

This was one of three highly rated "boutique" hotels (based on TripAdvisor reviews) we stayed at during a two-week visit to California (San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco). It was our favorite by far!

Our suite easily accomodated 3 adults and 3 children (13, 13 and 7).

Only a few blocks from a nice family beach area along the Pacific.

One note - not negative but important...Coronado Island is home to a Naval air station so you see a lot of military personnel and hear and see military jets, planes and helicopters.

Clean, safe and fun area!

Glorietta Bay Inn -- All Time Delight

from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I recently spent a weekend at the Glorietta Bay Inn. We have been long time San Diego area residents, and were looking for a local “get away.” We decided upon Glorietta Bay Inn and had the most comfortable, relaxing, and enjoyable experience. We stayed in the Sugar Baron’s suite in the historic Mansion part of the hotel. It was deluxe, with the feel of an era long gone. On Saturday morning we took the historic walking tour of Coronado, which begins in the Music room of the hotel. This was truly a hi-lite. We learned about the history of Coronado and the Hotel Del. After the tour, we had lunch at a nearby restaurant and spent the afternoon enjoying the village. A short walk from the hotel we enjoyed dinner at Chez Loma, one of San Diego’s finest. On Sunday morning, we enjoyed breakfast on the balcony outside our room over-looking Glorietta Bay. Just a spectacular setting. Glorietta Bay Inn is truly “one of a kind” and we look forward to a return visit.

Glorietta Bay Inn only adequate

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just returned from a 4-day stay at the contemporary inn at the Glorietta Bay Mansion. Booked my reservation based on the reviews on this website.

Room was a bit small but adequate. Bathroom area was very small. Bed was very lumpy with springs popping and there was a loud continuous humming noise on the roof (we were on the second floor) that made it difficult to sleep.

The continental breakfast was good and the patio was nice. The pool was small and not very secluded. After adding tax and parking our stay was $202.00 per night, which I think was very pricey for the amenities. A nice, clean Comfort Inn would have been just as good (maybe even more comfortable) considering we left our room in the morning, went sightseeing all day, and returned at night only to sleep.

Only place to stay on Coronado

Stay here!We just returned from a trip to the San Diego area with our 3 kids. Would probably not ventured to Coronado without a recommendation from a friend. So glad we did. I called the hotel Del from the beach because I simply had to stay. Was quoted a room for $545. OUCH. Called Glorietta Bay Inn and was given a 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite for $185.
Exceeded my expectations. Excellent location and walked through the hotel del property (same beach) for the price. Beautiful mansion, and although we didn't stay there, our room was spacious and comfortable.
Very accomodating staff. Will stay longer next time. Breakfast had alot of food not just a couple of muffins, laundry facilities etc etc. Look no further....

My daughter and I spent three nights at the Glorietta Bay Inn last week. My eleven-year-old was initially skeptical about staying in an "old inn," but after the pampering we received, I'll never get her back to a standard hotel again! We stayed in Room 106 of the Mansion and it was a true oasis. The bed was so comfortable, I never wanted to get up.
The bathroom was large with a little dressing/makeup area and a refrigerator cleverly tucked into the wall. The room had the comforts of 2004 and the charm of 1908. But it was all the little extras that made it special -- the thick terry-cloth robes and little boxes of chocolate that were laid out for us each night; the bottles of water that were always waiting on ice for us; the towels folded like fans; the bathroom toiletries, the music wafting from the music room -- well, I could go on and on. The heated pool and spa were open from 8 a.m.
until 10 p.m. and always supplied with thick, good-sized towels.
Breakfast was very nicely presented and included a variety of coffees, juices, fruit, cereal, pastries, oatmeal, muffins, breads, and bagels.
One could eat on the terrace or in the music room if it was chilly. The staff was always friendly and made us feel right at home. There was not a single time we went in the door or out that someone at the desk didn't call out, "have a good morning," or "how was your afternoon?" I was so glad that we chose the Glorietta Bay Inn over the famous Del across the street, as our place was clearly more private, more peaceful, more classy. I cannot wait to return.

Top Local Tips for Coronado

Fashion Valley vs. Mission Valley Fashion Valley Mall beats out Mission Valley Mall hands down. Seaport Village is also a cool place to shop.

Dining in Coronado There are many nice places to eat within walking distance of the Glorietta Bay Inn. The Brigantine, Italian, was very nice and service was great. The Sheerwater at "The Del" is great for lunch on the veranda. Any type of food is available within a few blocks.

Can walk everywhere Enjoyed everything being within walking distance
