Historical Traveller Reviews of Ramada Inn and Suites Carlsbad Hotel

An all time favorite

from katieroo
I travel out to Carlsbad about once a year and always stay at the Ramada Legoland by the Sea. This was probably my ninth stay there and it was great again! The staff has always been extremely helpful and I have always had a clean room and bath. Any problems have been taken care of in a timely manner. The amenities keep improving with each trip I make. The breakfast they now offer can keep you going for the whole day. It is not a luxury hotel--but I am not looking for one. I am looking for a hotel that offers a an excellent value and the Ramada does. As for the noise, I live in a large city and have never noticed it! This hotel clearly works for me and seems to be popular with families and older travelers.

Great Family Hotel!

from WeB4travellers
We spent 4 nights at the Ramada. We arrived early in the day (1:00 p.m.) and as suggested by others, we requested a room away from the freeway and immediately got a great room overlooking the pool. The room was quiet, clean and had 2 seperate bedrooms with their own bathrooms, a full kitchen and a little living space with a pull out sofa and a tv. This is a great feature when you have kids, as you can put them to sleep in their own room, then stay up longer to watch tv without disturbing them. The kitchen did not have any plates or utensils, but we just drove up to Walmart and bought paper plates and plastic cutlery. The pool is large and warm and the kids loved it. There's also a hot tub that we really enjoyed. Breakfast was included with the room and was plentiful. Lots of variety, with a waffle station, eggs, cereal, fruit, yogurt, juice and so much more. It was a great start to each morning. The Ramada was in a very quiet neighborhood, with a grocery store only a couple of blocks away and the beach a short drive away. Everywhere we went was easy to get to from the hotel. I would strongly recommend this hotel for your next visit to Carlsbad. It's not fancy, but for the price it did just fine.

Stay elsewhere

from EasyRiderTour
Got an ok rate at this hotel, but my room wasn't ready for check in until 4:30, so I had to wait in my car for 1 1/2 hours, and the room never had any hot water. It's hard to find a reasonably priced hotel in this area, but my advice is keep looking.

Good value for the amenities

from travelgarden
Hotel is along the highway and very noisy on those sides. Asked for a room change. Rooms around the pool, much better. Continental breakfasts never change, but a value for families. Room was always clean, no bugs and plenty of towels, folded by attendants in decorative fan folds. Room/kitchenettes small containing coffee maker, micro and little frig - no dishes. Biggest complaint was no warm water in the sink and only lukewarm with every shower. We stayed for a week with no change, although we noticed work being done on water pipes and main. Two computers in lobby a plus. Expect a few glitches with this price of room, but worth it. Staff was always helpful. Very hardworking service staff. Chain stores close by. Would stay again if room on the pool.

Travel tips: A lot to do in area. Legoland for kids, Flower Fields, Music Museum, beach, shopping in Carlsbad. Food in the bars is fantastic! Many activities close by: Oceanside pier and shopping, Temecula wine fields (30+), San Diego Balboa Park, Zoo, Sea World 30 min. away. Los Angeles, Hollywood, Beverly Hills 90 miles - although in tourist season could take twice the time on highway. Great time at the Tonight Show in Burbank! Request tickets by mail 6 weeks ahead and then be ready to stand in line once there. Chilly weather (50/60's) winter through March, with few warmer days.

Do Not Stay Here

from brjzl
The rooms are nice and the pool is heated. You do get the nice waffle breakfast. The service however is terrible. For the first time in my life, items went missing from my hotel room. When I spoke with the manager and asked if I could get my own towels and no one be allowed in my room for the remainder of my stay. I was told legally they have to check a room at least once a day- whether you have the do not disturb sign up or not, that someone would be in and out of my room. I explained again that items went missing from my room. The manager Katia told me "I will not have someone in my hotel making accusations and making my other guest uncomfortable. You have 1 hour to leave my hotel." I did call the police, but with out a picture proving my hair items and face wash were in my room, there was nothing they could do. And they do have the right to refuse service to anyone at any time. I couldn't believe it- they could steal from me and then kick me out- amazing!!! We ended up staying at La Quanta, right down the street- same great rooms, same great waffle breakfast, only they also have towels by the heated pool and complimentary afternoon popcorn. All for the same price : )

I enjoyed the Ramada in Carlsbad

from dannyg85
This was my 3rd spring year in a row at the Ramada Inn/legoland. I had no problems. Yes the hotel is dated, but good for the price. Breakfast is a good deal for families (free)

Not worth the money

from SerenityNow19
The hotel staff was not very helpful during my stay. Upon check- in, they gave me a key to a room that already had occupants. It was extremely embarrassing having to walk into other people's room when they were getting dressed. After going back to the front desk to complain, the staff was only slightly apologetic. This added even more to my aggravation.

They gave me another room, which appeared to be clean, but smelly and stuffy. If you're staying at this hotel, be sure to bring earplugs because you can hear the noise from the I5 freeway.
Management Response from hotelmanager54
Dear Guest, We're sorry you were assigned the wrong room. Some times check in's and check out's go faster than housekeeping computors can keep up. Like all the hotels on our street we each have a few rooms in the back that face the freeway. They are usually reserved for last minute check ins. We must have dropped the ball on your check in .

The good outweighs the bad

from cvp3
This hotel is a bit dated. The rooms do look worn. One of the mattresses did look slightly concave. The eating area in the kitchen consisted of 2 chairs and a counter. Bring your own plates/utensils, because you won't find any in the cupboards. I took heed of the other reviewer's advice and requested a room away from the freeway.

That being said, I will put up with a lot to have an affordable room with seperate living areas for the kids and the adults. When you have to put out the lights at 9 p.m. and tip toe around a small hotel room in the dark because the kids are asleep it doesn't seem like too much of a vacation for the adults. I love being able to put the kids to bed at their bedtime in their room and to stay up and relax for a while. This hotel at least allows you to do that.

For that reason I would stay there again.

great stay at Ramada Carlsbad

from NeilBelfastN/Ireland
Thought we would visit San Diego on our trip to California this year, found the Ramada on Expedia . Seemed a bargain compared to other choices.
We were not disappointed the suites were clean and roomy , and breakfast was great (and included). We were given a room that faced the pool closet and backed on to the ice machine and vending machines, so at times it was quite noisy , but expected in a hotel close to a theme park.
The hotel was popular with families , because of Legoland, and it was the weekend following thanksgiving, but the breakfast room and pool area coped with the onslaught, the staff were helpful and the computers with internet access (in the lobby) were very handy.
All in all good value for money ,reasonable rooms and good breakfast and only 20 minutes from San diego.

Tip :- great outlet shopping only 5 minutes away.

Good overall stay

from 4Robshavinfun
We stayed for two nights in a one bedroom suite with a full kitchen.

The room was nice and clean with plenty of towels. The hotel provided a "dishpack" which included plates, bowls, silverware all wrapped up in plastic, which made us feel as though it had been recently cleaned properly, unlike the dishes in some hotels that you wonder about. The oven nob was missing, but maintenance came quickly and replaced it.

The bed was firm and I found it to be comfortable, but I was using my own pillow as I usually take it along with me.

The breakfast was nice, but it would be nice to have cheese-less eggs.

This hotel is only a 10 minute walk from a good beach and a 5 minute walk from a shopping center with a Ralph's and a Rite Aid, which was really nice for picking up things we didn't bring. There's also a nice beach about a 5 minute drive north. The outlet mall and music museum are really close too.

The only downsides were the AC was only in the living room, which wasn't a problem in November and the noise from the freeway which didn't really bother us as it was really steady.

All in all, unless you're looking for luxury or lots of space (the rooms are rather small) this is a good place to stay.

Try to get a room away from the freeway.
