Pelican Inn and Suites

from A TripAdvisor Member
A different twist on the "bed and breakfast" inns dotting Moonstone Beach Drive, the Pelican Inn and Suites is a relaxing and well-appointed inn that offers beautifully decorated mini-suites, a welcoming host and nice hot tea in the main lobby whenever you happen to stop by. While the mini-suite is not necessaily larger square-foot-wise than many of the other larger B&B rooms on Moonstone Drive, the suite feels more lupscale like a Las Vegas hotel room than quaint and homey B&B. While pricier, it is certainly a delightful choice if you are in Cambria to celebrate a special ocassion, or are just looking for a change. The inn staff are all very professional and gracious, and we would love to come back again.

Lovely, but underwhelmed

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed here last weekend and according to the website there were rooms with a "jaccuzi" in them. On other sites we have seen the honest description of a "standard bathtub with jaccuzi jets." Not here. My main purpose for staying here was the jaccuzi tub - this tub was only large enough for 1 person and it was not tall enough to really accomodate 1 person well.

The room had a nice fireplace and the room was well laid-out. Plenty of space, ethernet hook ups, two tv's..a generally nice room but not what I was expecting for the price of nearly $300. per night.

Also, the breakfast was sub-standard. A Denny's breakfast would have been better.

I don't think that I would pay this amount of money to stay here again. I would only pay $150 for this room. In Santa Barbara, we paid $170 and had a better breakfast and jaccuzi (with a fireplace and king bed !!).

Could not have been better!

I thnk I called every place in Cambria before finding this place. And what a find this was! Large room with comfortable sitting area, fireplace, window seat, canopy bed. They told me about wine tasting, dessert buffet and breakfast buffet when I made reservation. They present five different wines for tasting along with cheeses. Desserts were a treat. Breakfast included a hot egg dish, not the usual Continental stuff. The staff could not have been nicer. When there was a small problem with our room, a bottle of wine and a couple of glasses appeared a few minutes latter "For our inconvenience." The people we met at the various buffets were all very nice and this was not their first visit to Pelican Suites. I can understand why they would return, we certainly will!

Just came home from a wonderful weekend at Pelican Suites. We found our room to be quiet, in excellent condition, and furnishings lovely. We felt very pampered and important. The staff was wonderful, friendly and helpful. We were able to make reservations for next year, a full 12 months in advance, not like the other comment made about frustrations on advance reservations. The breakfast buffett varied. One morning it was ok and the other it was much better. I would check the food and just eat elsewhere if it was not to your liking. There are so many wonderful restaurants in this area to eat at. I would not let the food keep me away from the best place to stay in Cambria.

we agree with the previous revue -- terrible

from A TripAdvisor Member
i agree with the above statment of this hotel being a terrible service place to stay, i have stayed there a few times due to the wonderful rooms and ammenities, especially room 204, its awsome, but, the servive is terrible and most of the time very rude and snooty and very impersonel, when going to cambria, you will expect a very friendly and warm atmosphere, everyone knows everybody, and all other places treat you like that, when you go to the pelican suites, you are instantly entering a machined world of something like a vegas casino or a microsoft type boring office atmosphere, last year my wife and i had walked over from the hotel next door where we were staying, and we tried to make a reservation for thanksgiving in 6 months (as you well need to in cambria ) the three robots at the counter were so rude when telling us, that -we do not make reservations here that early, and would not even talk any further, nor would they give us any info as to when we could do it. i walked out never to return and made reservations at the two neighboring hotels for the comming holiday within 10 minutes of leaving the pelican, mind you, this was the sum of $1900 for the nights that we were going to stay, and they did not want our money , i have been staying in cambria for 20 years and have stayed at the finest and the lowest, and have always been treated like a god. we are not some sort of convict type people, nor do we have antennas growing out of our foreheads, and it is terrible when you are treated like this when you are spending large amounts of money for a room. and the fact that you are a regular. they need to lose the factory trained employes and only hire the wonderful local people like the rest of the resorts do on moonstone beach.

Nice Rooms Terrible Service

from A TripAdvisor Member
Nice rooms, but not worth the price because terrible service and breakfast substandard. We would recommend going off-season because not worth the $300 plus summer rate.

T staty anywhere else in Cambria but here!

If you are planning a trip to beautiful Cambria, the Pelican Suites is literally the best hotel you can stay at. My husband and I celebrated our 2nd year anniversary this past weekend, and planned a trip to Cambria solely through the help of the internet. After looking up tons of websites, calling the Cambria chamber of commerce, and requesting brochures from at least 10 hotels and inns in Cambria, we finally decided to go with the Pelican Suites.
Arriving at the hotel, we were not dissapointed. The rooms are spacious, with gorgeous comforters and furniture to make any stay spectacular. The breakfast, wine and cheese and desserts offered are just as great and the staff is beyond helpful.
My husband and I were so impressed by the presentation of the hotel grounds and the rooms in themselves. It is a little pricey, but well worth it. While in Cambria, we checked out some of the other hotels we were contemplating...NONE COMPARED.
Chose the Pelican Suites for a relaxing, romantic getaway.

Exceeds Expectations

I booked a room here based on recommendations from this site. It did not dissappoint! The room was one of the nicest we've ever stayed in. The service was excellent and friendly. I would recommend any couple seeking a romantic get-away to stay here. Breakfast was included and delicious. We wish we'd been able to stay longer so we could try the afternoon wine tasting or evening desserts. Next time!

Great vacation

from A TripAdvisor Member
We have been going to Cambria for the last five years and decided to try the Pelican Suites based on ratings from Trip Advisor. I'm happy to say we were not disappointed, even over a busy Labor Day weekend. What a great way to spend the last two nights of our Central Cal. vacation. Loved the property, service, amenities, room and location. The wine/cheese tasting was a great way to end our day. The views from the second floor rooms are ideal. Staff goes out of their way to accomodate special requests. We came with one other family, the hotel was very "family friendly". Breakfast was really good. We'll be back next year.

Top Local Tips for Cambria

dining at the Sows Ear A great complement to a stay at the Pelican Cove Inn. They made a call and got us reservations for dinner the next night. Great American food with choices of chicken, steak, pork and fish. Do make reservations though because you might expirience a wait to get in. We got there seconds behind another group, of four, who didnt have reservations and would need to wait 30-45 minutes for a table. Ouch! This is a smaller restraunt but very cozy and comfortable. Great service too.

Moustache Petes We ate at an Italian restaurant called Moustache Petes in Cambria - the food is fantastic! We especially loved the Manicotti with Alfredo sauce

Dining - Learn to like eating early Cambria shuts down at 9:00 p.m. If you like to eat late, learn to eat eariler on your trip. Make reservations no later than 8:30 p.m. When in Rome...
