Historical Traveller Reviews of Best Western Fireside Inn Hotel
Would stay again in the future

We stayed one night in BW Fireside Inn for 2 queen bedroom in September 27 for less $100 before tax (use AAA card and GGCI card I earn triple points). It is quiet place and the beach is just steps away. The free breakfast is good. This BW provided apple juice, tomato juice, orange juice, egg, danish roll, milk, 4 kinds of coffee, fresh fruit and so on. You can even make your own waffle there.
The Fireside Inn is only 6 miles away to Hearst Castle (10 mins away) is a plus. Front desk people are very friendly. This BW also features wireless internet at your room.
I definitely would stay here again in the future.
Great Place to relax and enjoy the Pacific
We stayed at the BW Fireside for one night in August 2005. What a beautiful setting for a relaxing day and evening by the sea. The rooms were very large and clean. If you are one of the many reviewers on this site that is always complaining about small rooms then this is the place for you. We had a King suite with fireplace and jacuzzi tub facing the ocean. Our second room for the kids was just as large and also had a fireplace. The property is an easy two minute walk across the street to the ocean (None of the properties here are directly on the beach. There is a very nice boardwalk that follows the coast along along the beach area and beyond. My kids and I really enjoyed poking around the rocks looking for sea creatures and spotting the seals which were on the rocks only a few feet away. Very nice pool and jacuzzi area that we had all to ourselves in the evening. The breakfast was excellent. We especially enjoyed the belgian Waffle maker. This is a very clean, very quite first rate property.
We arrived at this hotel at 8.00 pm, exhausted after a very long drive, and were met with the friendliest welcome I've had in a long while. This is a lovely place to stay: the room was large and comfortable with tasteful decor and the beds were great. The pool and hot tub are good and the continental breakfast was excellent with everything you could ask for plus a waffle maker. The location is lovely - just across from the ocean and convenient for Hearst Castle. The best part though was the helpfulness and relaxed attitude of the staff.
very nice place
Just returned from another heavenly getaway to my favorite place in California, Cambria. This is the fourth place that we have stayed at on Moonstone Beach and we were very pleased. The room was a king size with a fireplace and outdoor patio overlooking the ocean. The room was very big and clean with a small couch where you could sit and look outside at the ocean (when it got too chilly to sit on the patio). Bathroom was good size and the beds were very comfortable. Location is great, probably one of the best on the beach. My only complaint was the breakfast. The breakfast itself was fine, offering bagels, cereal, even Belgian waffles. However, the room that it is located in is too small and we had to come back twice each morning just to get into the room. Granted, it was summer so there were alot of families, but, you could barely get in there to grab some coffee and a bagel and escape back to your room. The last day that we were there, I finally discovered that if you come in around 9:45, just before closing down breakfast, it is not too crowded. Like I said, it was summer and you probably wouldn't have that problem other times of the year. Otherwise, a great place to stay in heavenly Cambria.
one night stay in cambria in july 2005 with family (9&12 yrs old) on our way to san francisco from los angeles.
this place is great.
the hotel is litterally across the street from the ocean where you can spot seals and sea lions.
the rooms are just in perfect shape, with huge & comfortable beds.
a small fireplace in the room makes it just perfect for a nice glass of wine in the evening.
the outdoor pool and spa are of decent size and in very good shape.
we really liked our visit and would definitely come back.
rate was 209 USD a night.
the breakfast is included in the rate and you can make your own belgium waffles. the kids really enjoyed it.
Stayed at the Fireside Inn for one night on our way up from Anaheim to San Francisco. We had an ocean front room which was wonderful. The view of the sunset was very romantic. The room was large and the fireplace, though a gas one, was a nice touch. Would stay here again.

My husband and I just returned from a short getaway to the California central coast. Having lived in this beautiful state most of our lives we have often heard about Cambria but never had the opportunity to visit. Cambria is truly the charming little seaside village that was promised. Unfortunately we were only able to stay one night but were not disappointed in our choice of accomodation. We stayed at the Best Western Fireside Inn on Moonstone Beach. The location and proximity to the beach is the main advantage to staying in any of the inns that line Moonstone Drive. Our room was spacious and well appointed with a queen sized feather top mattress, sitting area large enough for a love seat with a nice fireplace. The gas fire however was not large enough to radiate much heat, otherwise the ambiance was nice. The bathroom was a good size and there were two white robes hanging in the closet. The continental breakfast was fair complete with make yourself waffles. The staff is helpful and friendly giving good recommendation for meals in town. We had dinner at the Sow's Ear. The cheesecake with oreo hazelnut crust and hazelnut infused chocolate sauce was especially memorable. The boardwalk makes the stroll along the beach easy--watch out for the many fearless squirrels that scurry along the walk. Since there is no cinema in town the "big show" is the beautiful sunset. We combed the beach for the elusive moonstone for which the area is named. Our search produced only very small samples however the activity was much enjoyed. The real show however was watching the seals sunning themselves on the rocks. In short, we fell in love with Cambria and would stay at the Fireside Inn again.
We reserved two rooms here just after "9/11" (10/1/01) and we practically had it to ourselves! The front desk staff could not have been more helpful regarding suggestions for restaurants and things to do in Cambria. After completing our tour of nearby Hearst Castle, a walk on the beach was all we wanted to do! We just simply walked across the road and there we were! When we tired of the beach we sat on the bench (a log with a back) and watched the sunset! How wonderful. Our rooms were no disappointment either. Each room had two queen beds with wonderful mattresses AND pillows (what a surprise!). The carpeting looked fairly new and the bedspreads were very nice with a contrasting bedskirt. Plenty of channels on the t.v. and a nice swimming pool which we used later that night! The complimentary breakfast is held in a separate room near the pool and it was the usual fare: cereal, bagels, fruit, coffee, juice. We would definitely return when in the area!
Nice Location. Nice Decor

Stayed here with my kids over mothers day. The administration was disorganized. I had confirmed my booking but they had us down for only one room and the couple before me at the front desk were complaining that their room did not have a whirlpool bath. However the rooms we were assigned were very large, clean, really nicely decorated and appointed. The location is perfect, right on the beach front. There is ample parking outside the rooms also a pool and spa. The breakfast was a complimentary continental style buffet and was actually very good. We would definately stay here again but would get confirmation in writing.
room with plenty of romance

We splurged and stayed at one of the nicer spots on Moonstone and couldn't have been happier. Our room included a wonderful sitting area in front of the oh-so-romantic fireplace. Our king sized bed was high quality with plenty of overstuffed pillows. Bathrobes are always a nice surprise, even if it IS a girly-thing. I completely disagree with complaints about location-- you are literally across the street from the beach, which is delightfully free of the (no offense) Pismo crowd. The breakfast was simple, but we had other plans. It was a bit pricy-- over $200, but typical for this accomodation and location. We will return for our next mini-getaway!
Top Local Tips for Cambria
Moonstone Bay Inn
This inn is a few steps from the Fireside Inn, overlooking the sea at sunset and serves excellent food - try their chicken and apple sausage sandwiches!! A Great Place to watch the sun going down with a margarita.
Go into town
There are lots of cafes, grill/bistros and restaurants but go and eat before 9pm as it seems to close up
Traveling with hungry teenagers? JayJay's Pizza on the main street was great. The pizza was surprisingly good and we loved the ambience. Casual, friendly, and no nonsense.
