Great Location; however, you pay for what you get

I gave the Good Nite Inn a "above average" review, becuase the hotel has a lot going for it. You can't beat the price (I paid between $60 and $66 per night depending on the day of the week) and it's in a fantastic location. It's right by the 101, so you have easy acess to LAX and the rest of LA. It's also a 10 min. drive to Malibu and the Pacific Coast Hwy (1).

There is a Starbucks, food store, McDonalds and several other eating establishments within walking distance of the hotel. Calabasas is a nice, safe town (so no worries about the area you are in).

Being close to Malibu means you are near good eating establishments (check out the sandwich place in the Malibu Country Mart) and of course the beaches (Zuma being one of the best). There is also a tun of hiking around the coast and in the Santa Monica Mountains. You are also right by Pepperdine University.

However, like I said in the title, you do get what you pay for. The hotel is clean and quite, but nothing special. There was a strange oder in my room as well. I would stay here again, but I plan on trying the Country Inn & Suites in Calabasas this Fall.

Decent Place for the Money

Just returned from a four night stay at the Good Nite Inn in Calabasas, CA. It was pretty decent for the price that I paid (50.00/night @ Orbtiz).

Upon checking in at the front desk, Henry was kind enough to assist us with our room keys and even called up to see if the room was to our liking fifteen minutes afterward.

Good Points: Comfortable bed, TV with more cable channels than expected, and very accesible to the freeway.

Room for Improvement: Sink outside of the bathroom, very small bathroom, very noisy fan in the bathroom, bathroom door oddly situated so that you can easily hit anyone standing outside washing their hands.

I would not recommend this place for families...especially those with small children. However, if you are on a business trip or just looking for somewhere cheap to spend the night, this place is in a safe neighborhood and local to several sites, places to eat, etc.

The one major concern... the sign outside our room that's posted all over the hotel... didn't strike me as something I would like to see at a hotel.

Great location in Calabasas instead of staying in the Valley with easy access to coast. Pretty views of mts instead of buildings. We upgraded to a room with 2 queens and was well worth it as we got a fridge in the room. It also added wireless, but we did not need that. The courtyard with pool and hottub gives you more of a vacation feel, nice and quiet too. Room was nice and clean and front desk seemed to enjoy their work. We will definately be back.

Good Value Motel

We stayed one night (Just after the fires) as a 2nd stop off on the way back from San Francisco to Vegas. Being on a budget "Road trip" I selected this motel due to its price. The room was fine - Clean and Tidy. Its an ideal stop over - close enough to LA, but far enough away! We arrived earlier than expected - so popped over to Malibu beach (it was around 15-20 mins drive). We didn't go in the pool - but had a sit in their outdoor hot tub (We're not too sure why the tub was sooooo hot!?!) There's not to much around (StarBuck's and a shopping mall - as indicated in other reviews) - but about 5 mins drive is a big shopping/leisure complex with Restaurants and a Cinema (I think it was called the "The Common" ?). The guy behind the desk was helpful - drawing me a map to it.

Good Nite Inn is inexpensive, basic accommodation. However, the cleaning products used are too heavily scented. Will not stay here again.

Rooms are small, staff could be more courteous.

The nose does not lie, you were correct in your detection. While doing room inspections just the other day, we sprayed the rooms and noticed it as well. We have adjusted our mixing ratios to a much more pleasant aroma. Hope you will sniff us out one more time and let us know what you think.

stayed there for a quick nite before heading north up the coast. its far enough away from the LA area to get a good start away from the traffic. room was nice n clean. pool looked good although we didnt have time to enjoy it. rates were cheap when we booked online in advance. book in advance though, we had a friend get the last room available, and even w/ his senior discount, he paid alot more than us (we offered to get a cot w/ us!)

I spent four nights in the Good Nite Inn recently. Although it's right off of the 101 freeway, it's in a decent area, compared to many hotels/motels that are situated adjacent to freeways. There is an Albertson's grocery store within 100 yds. of the hotel, as well as several places to eat in the strip mall across from Albertson's. Starbuck's is also there for morning coffee. I recommend the "Money Pancho" Mexican restaurant - the food was excellent and moderately priced, and they provide take-out service as well. Rooms were clean and very reasonably priced. I will definitely stay there again, mainly for the safe area adjacent to the hotel to walk to dinner, grab a cup of coffee, and pick up any missing items from Albertson's. Overall, an excellent value.

My wife and I wanted to check out the great Los Angeles metropolitan area for New Years 2005, and this place served as our base of operations. It's a great place! Especially for the money - a very good value. I did extensive research into sub-$50 motels in the LA area, and all I could find were roach-motels, rent-a-labs, and dens of smoke and sleeze. Then I found this place. Kind of felt like an oasis! It is indeed a bit away from "central" LA (where ever that is). But that was way fine with us. Calabasas is a nice little area just far enough away (and over the hill) from LA that it feels like a friendly small town. It took us about 30 minutes to drive from the motel to 101/405. And it's a very beautiful drive from the hotel right over to Malibu, about 20 minutes. The hotel itself was very comfortable. Very clean, good furnishings, newer rooms, and it felt super safe. Stores located conveniently right next store help prepare for a day of sightseeing. We were there for 3 nights. No complaints at all. Great value for the money. Next time we are in LA under similar circumstances, there is no question where we will stay.

....good in parts. Stayed with family of 5 from Aug 15-19. 2 rooms, both ok but mean with towels, pillows, etc. About 90 channels on TV to keep the kids amused. Pool was good but dirty-looking (seemed to be sand on the bottom causing the dirty look). Overall a very nice hotel in a quiet area (except for the freeway noise nearby). Front desk not too clever. On check-in I paid half the total. Went back the next day to pay the rest and was given a figure I knew to be too low but they insisted was right. I paid their figure only to find myself locked out of my room the next day "for not paying the bill". Eventually sorted that and paid the balance. On check out was told I owed another $30 (I didn't) which I refused to pay and departed. So far no writ has pursued me. Like I said, a nice hotel but watch the front desk staff!

My favorite to stay when the L. A. area

I've stayed many times since the first time in Oct. '87. It's close enough to Malibu and L. A. to be handy but in an uncrowded area. The rates are very reasonable. If you stay here and have few hours to spare some morning be sure to visit the M.A.S.H. filming location at Malibu Creek State Park a few miles south of the motel.

Top Local Tips for Calabasas

Sharky's Sharky's Mexican - its organic, its kind of pricey - but its oh soo good. just down the road from the hotel.

Location/Food/Pacific Coast Highway/Pepperdine U. Located directly off the highway. Very easy to get around. Close to the Pacific Coast Highway for a picture perfect drive. Visit Pepperdine University campus while you are there. My daughter just started Pepperdine Law school and the campus is unbelievable. Take a drive down the Malibu Canyon Road and it will take you to the Pacific Coast Highway. PCH provides the best of driving in CA.Albertson's supermarket is in walking distance. For the negative, I would have liked a microwave in my room.

Do Not Stay at Good Nite Inn Terrible service in sub-par accomodations.
