Historical Traveller Reviews of Marriott San Francisco Airport Hotel
Good Arrival or Departure Hotel
from mykel67The room is pretty much what I would expect of an airport Marriott, however the soft goods are definitely in need of replacement - stains, small tears and signs of wear abound. Having now seen the view from the bay side of the hotel, I would definitely spend a little extra for one of those rooms if I were going to be there during daylight hours. Ours faced the parking lot/street, but that was okay as we were only there 10 hours.
We booked through the Marriott's own website for a rate of $124, including breakfast for two. This is a good deal, as the breakfast buffet is $15.95 per person. The food was of surprisingly good quality.
Overall, it's a decent 3 1/2 star airport hotel - nothing more, nothing less.
Excellent Hotel
from amozgirlVery Pleasant Experience
from NJpgdOur stay was very enjoyable...The rooms were nicely furnished, the staff was pleasant and had good recommendations for dining areas in/out of the City. There is a nice view of the bay in the lobby area where you can watch the planes while relaxing. The fitness center and pool area is spacious and well-equipped - one of the best I've seen at a Marriott. Parking could be a bit of a problem during busy periods, but that was never a big issue. The city of Burlingame itself has some surprisingly good places to eat, if you're looking for something quick.
If your plan is to spend more time in the city, I'd recommend a hotel in town, in which case you needn't worry about getting in/out via car. I could envision this hotel being somewhat overwhelmed by heavy convention or business conference traffic (which may have contributed to some of the negative reviews), but all-in-all my family and I had a very relaxing stay and would return.
s Ever
from brookszAs for the airport shuttle, it showed up 20 minutes late and there were so many people that waiting that not every could fit on -- at 5:25 am! The driver was supposed to go by the Hyatt as well but the bellstaff demanded he go straight to the airport. He still tried to go to the Hyatt but one guest on-board walked up to the driver and asked if he was going to strap people to the hood because there wasn't even standing room available. Others onboard said that the shuttle FROM the airport had either bypassed them or shut the door in their face. So don't count on the free shuttle as transportation to SFO.
The room service food was delivered cold. The Concierge lounge was out of food during happy hour (supposedly 5 - 7) by 6 and put out one dessert offering at 7:30. One cake for a roomful of people. Very nice touch.
All in all a miserable experience.

from LuvToLearnThe room was bright, large, and extremely comfortable. There was a desk, a large closet (with mirrored doors), a TV, a hair dryer, a clock radio, an iron and ironing board, a coffeemaker with coffee, creamer, sugar and sugar substitute (we ran out of the above and they brought more right away), a newspaper delivered daily, toiletries, and lots of big, soft, towels. The bed, with its rich bedding, was very much appreciated.
There were complimentary apples in the lobby and in the gym/swimming pool/Jacuzi areas. They even had extra towels available.
On our last day, we received a printout of the charges and were able to check-out by following the directions on the TV! This was so convenient.
I would highly recommend staying here.
Not really any star
from A TripAdvisor MemberHow could a hotel of such high calibre has as high disregard for paying guests?
I requested two beds but got one. Then I asked for an extra blanket--a very basic request--but got sheets instead. Please take note that it was simply a blanket, and not a comforter.
On a second matter regarding quiet hour, I called the operator at 10pm reporting a wall-rumbling and floor-thumping drum noise from below. One hour later at 11pm, I called a second time to ask if something could be done about the incessant "wall-rumbling and floor-thumping drum noise from below." Not until midnight did the noise stop.
Needless to say that it was a most unpleasant overnight stay.
I could understand the hotel not being able to guarantee a room with two beds, but could not, with my best effort, understand how as basic a request as an extra blanket and a reasonable quiet hour could not be met.

from Travel_FeedbackNEGATIVES: [Neg. Item 1] The room was somewhat narrow and the bathroom was incredibly tiny. Cheap looking counter, standard toiletries, low flow shower. [Neg. Item 2] Worn carpet that effected the rollers on the desk chair. [Neg. Item 3] The WORST mattress I have ever slept on. The sheets, pillows, and comforter are eye appealing but the mattress was so worn and soft. I had to lift the sheets to be sure it wasn’t foam. The collapse of the mattress was visibly present. [Neg. Item 4] Dark/dimly lit rooms. All my clothes & papers felt damp.
POSITIVES: Very close proximity to the SFO airport. Complimentary shuttle to the airport/BART subway. Shuttles run approx. every 15 minutes until midnight. Rooms on the water have a good view of the airport for those who love arriving/departing planes. As a warning, one runway perpendicular to the hotel does create a loud/vibratory thrust that can become annoying. There is a Starbucks onsite, however, open only during the morning. Allies Grille was a good alternative from the expensive JW Steakhouse. There are several restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Nothing fancy, however, there is a complimentary trolley bus to downtown Burlingame.
FINAL COMMENTARY: I chose this hotel as I try to earn Marriott points whenever possible. I have stayed at many airport Marriott hotels, unfortunately, this ranks as the worst in my experience. I just couldn’t believe some of the reviews posted on this website saying how good the rooms were. Perhaps I got a bad room, however, at $190/night, I definitely expected better. Would not stay here again. Check out the Hyatt or Bay Landings Hotel (both in Burlingame).

Top Local Tips for Burlingame
Room with a view Definitely ask for a room with a view of the airport. Watching the planes take off and land is pretty awesome.
Getting into San Francisco Burlingame has a great train stop with parking that will take you into downtown. I would highly suggest you use this instead of driving. The public transportation system in San Francisco is great and will get you everywhere. There is a 3 day pass and a all day pass that is worth the money. I had to drive into San Francisco because I had my handicapped father with me and it was a nightmare and took forever. Parking cost $35 for a couple of hours and unless you are use to driving in very heavy traffic I wouldn't try to drive.
surrounding restaurants Unless you plan to eat in the hotel(s), you'll have to travel abit to get to some nice restaurants. Take the East Millbrae Ave and cross over the Bayshore Freeway heading towards El Camino Real. At El Camino Real turn right ( heading towards San Fran). Its down this strip you'll find quite a few restaurants. If you like Dim Sum, head towards Zen Peninsula Restaurant. Its located at the corner of Center Street and El Camino Real. The parking can get hectic so park on the street. The food is reasonably priced for the quantity that you get. For a more accurate picture of the area, go to googleearth and follow the satellite map.
