Good Airport Location

We stayed here just one night- enjoyed the room however the furnishings are very outdated. The breakfast was very tasty but they could use more seating room. The cocktail reception was good but I was quite surprised to see a maintenance worker served alcohol. The hotel got quite noisy around 1230 a.m. and seemed to finally quiet down around 0130, probably after someone complained to management.

Terrible service; has really gone downhill

Since moving to San Diego from San Francisco in 2003, we have been staying at the Embassy Suites in Burlingame at least three times a year. The quality of the rooms and service has gone down to the point where, after our most recent August 2005 stay, we will never return.
We enjoyed the SF bayside location, close proximity to the airport, the seperate room for our son, and the free breakfast, but none of that matters anymore.
The first problems occurred at breakfast the first morning. We came down more than a half hour before the closing time, and there were no pastries or bananas. We finally tracked down someone and they finally cmae out with more pastries and green bananas. This was Tuesday 8/2. We then left the area and returned Saturday afternoon on 8/6.
When we arrived their were not one but two wedding receptions going on. One of them was partially set up in the hallway that leads from the parking lot to the elevators--we literally had to push our way through the crowd with our luggage to get to the elevator. We went out that night, and returned around 11:30 PM--both receptions were still going strong, and it was a miracle that we were able to find a parking space. The noise from the people and the music was loud--the doors to the receptions were not closed--we were on the seventh floor and away from the reception area, but I pity the poeple who had room nearer the receptions. The hotel is poorly designed for receptions, as they are right there at the opposite end of the lobby--the hotel is a huge atrium with outside corridors and the reception rooms are simply not far enough away. If after reading this you are determined to stay here and it is on the week-end, make sure you get a room on a high floor, away from the reception rooms, or you will be sorry.

The next morning, we arrived 45 minutes before breakfast closing and again no pastries and no bananas. Flagging someone down did no good this time, nor a trip to the front desk; they said they were all out.

This is where it really gets good. We went out around 11:30 AM for the day, returning at 11:45 PM. We walked in to the room--no one had come to clean the room!! The beds were unmade, and the towels were where we left them. Never, in all my travels around the world, has this happened before. We managed to get some towels delivered to the room.

The next morning we went down to the front desk to complain about it and aks for some compensation. They grudgingly gave us a $50.00 credit for our troubles. We then asked them to fix up the room right away, as my wife had to go out for the day and my son and I were going to stay at the hotel. We told them we would read the paper and wait in the atrium area. After almost an hour and a half and two more trips to the front desk, they FINALLY got someone to fix the room--you would think after the royal screw-up the day before they would have been a little more eager to make amends.
That afternoon my son made a call from the room phone to my wife's cell phone--it rang to her voice mail and he did not leave a message. The next morning, check-out day, they slipped a bill under the door, attempting to charge us $8.10 for that call!!!!! Needless to say, we convinced them not to charge us for the call. And we are Hilton Honors members, for whatever that is supposed to mean.
Finally breakfast. We braved the line to get eggs, etc. Fine, except we had to take our breakfasts up to our room. Oh, there were empty tables allright, at least seven or eight of them--none of which were cleaned.

All in all, a terrible experience and the last straw. We will not be back. We're going to try the Embasy Suites in South San Francisco, which is newer. Don't say I didn't warn you!!!!!
PS The bathrooms at this hotel need an overhaul; they are getting very, very tired.

A Warm Night in Burlingame

This could have been a perfect experience, however, it was not. The rooms are lovely especially on the 3 highest floors with more upscale furnishings. The parking is free and plentiful. The evening wine reception and morning breakfast buffet are nice additions, although you must prepare for the human congestion in the buffet lines. People go "crazy" at buffets! The unfortunate part of our experience was the air conditioning that did not work. And this was a very hot day and evening. The maintenance person came to repair the AC and reported that the fan was broken. Apparently, according to him, the hotel is aware of several rooms that have that same problem. Now, why were we put in that room to begin with? Night manager was willing to move us. Unfortunately, the AC hardly worked in several of the other rooms we were shown and there was a horrific smell in several of the rooms as well. We could not detect where that smell was coming from. Being midnight, and we were exhausted, we finally settled on a room with only a faint smell and imperfect AC. Too tired to do anything else about it. The staff apologized and seemed sincere. Too bad, because the interior and exterior are lovely with lots of available lawn for people traveling with pets. One of the nicest pet friendly hotels I have ever stayed in. Wish the experience had been better.

Nice hotel, great prices

We stayed in the hotel for our first night in the Bay area. We wanted something convenient to the airport, since we got in very late. This hotel fit to a tee. Typical older Embassy Suites but very clean and quiet. Breakfast options were better than average and fast. We loved the walkway along the bay just outside the hotels front lobby.

Great Hotel, but too too noisy

We have stayed at many Embassy Suites before and at least 5 times at the Burlingame location over the past couple of years. Our last visit was April 2, 2005 for 7 days. The staff is wonderful, as usual, they will always go out of their way for you, and the rooms are clean and comfortable and very pleasently decorated. The restaurant (RINGS) is very good. The views of the bay are spectacular, the breakfast and evening cocktails are fantastic. However, and this is a big however, it is too noisy with regards to children runing up and down hallways at all hours and forget about using the pool, it's overrun with unruly teens partying. It is a shame that they allow teens to party here on the weekends. We couldn't get much sleep on our last visit and I noticed each year it seems to become a bigger problem. We're thinking of looking for another hotel on our next trip. Hopefully, someone in management will realise and do something about it. I hate to give such a discredit to a hotel chain that I have long enjoyed the pleasure of visiting.

typical embassy suites good breakfast and evening drinks. room was clean and bed comfortable. this is our second stay at this chain on a weekend. the place is very, very noisy. caters to parties on weekends. the pool was mobbed with kids and very noisy.

Awsome Hotel

My husband & I got a great price for 4 nights. The biggest selling point was the full breakfast, the comfortable suite, heated pool & easy access to freeway.
We had a wonderful time there and can not wait to come back.

I have stayed in this Hotel once a year for the past five years. The rooms are good sized, quiet ( ask for the street side, not the bay side), and is so easy to get anywhere. Easy in and out of the airport, downtime SF or south to SJ.

This is the first year I was in the hotel on the weekend, having only been in during the week in the past. There were three bands staying at the hotel so it was comletely full. The students were well behaved, the staff opened up two of the meeting rooms to accomodate breakfast seating as the atrium was full. It was noisy until about 10.30 pm or so then go back to normal.

There is a vanity sink in the bedroom as well as the full bath. Coffee maker, microwave, frig in the room make it easy.

The bay side rooms offer a great view but are noisy when the wind is the wrong way for airport landings. The TV in the bedroom is oddly located inside a corner armoire in the corner and is small.

The walking/jogging path along the bay is delightful, bring a sweatshirt as it can be chilly.

For the price in SF, you can not beat it.

Stayed here last July 4th. Location is good for airport access, with nice waterside path. Was able to see firworks on it.
Room was spacious and nice balcony in rooms. Very clean and I definiatly would return

Weekend Parties on the bayside porch very loud

Stayed here three nights in July, 2004. We favor Embassy Suites, and this place generally met our expectations. We had a room with a bay view, however, it was very close to the outdoor porch area. So on Saturday evening even with the patio door closed you could hear people partying. There were numerous events in the ballrooms which made Saturday evening parking a real challenge. Lots of great shops and restaurants in Burlingame.

Top Local Tips for Burlingame

Kuletos Restaurant Kuletos Restaurant is right across the freeway from the hotel. Very good food and moderately priced. Good atmosphere and less than 5 minutes from the hotel.

Kincaids While you're at the Embassy Kincaid's is within easy walking distance on the Bay next door. Kind of expensive but this is San Francisco. Nice to be able to walk along the Bay after dinner and then stroll back to the hotel.

Warrants the extra cost. Fill up on the wonderful breakfast and have a couple of glasses of Chardonnay free between 5:30-7:30. It makes the extra you pay for the hotel seem good value for money.
