Historical Traveller Reviews of Doubletree Hotel San Francisco Airport

Pretty Good

from Lunchbox229
The Doubletree SFO is a fairly good choice for airport stays. The hotel offers excellent warm cookies at check in and newly decorated rooms. The rooms are on the small side but are very clean. The staff is friendly and the airport is frequented by airline crews. The shuttle runs frequently, but is shared with 2 other hotels, so it tends to be JAMMED full during the peak travel times. The breakfast buffet was $11.95 and is a pretty good value, offering most of the usual food. There is a free business center off the lobby. Once again, parking is an absolute joke at $13 per day. I recieved this hotel from a priceline bid of $37 and I feel I got my money's worth!!

Better room since I last stye there

from JillChang
I was there 4 years ago. This time, the room was obviously renovated. It was clean, comfortable with a soothing colors. Bed was very comfortable. Washroom can use a little upgrade, and should supply with more amenities, the way it is now, you have to call housekeeping to get a shower cap!
Breakfast was average. The biggest complaint was of course, parking. There is a driving range right next door, with free parking. If they don't tow the car at night (we didn't see it till the last day), it is just as convenient as hotel parking!

Good hotel, but be prepared to pay extra...

We stayed at Doubletree Hotel San Francisco Airport for 3 nights. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Our room was spacious and clean. The staff was helpful. However, be prepared to pay extra for parking, Internet, and breakfast.

Close to airport

I purchased this hotel room using the Priceline service. This hotel is well maintained and in a safe area. The hotel was somewhat hard to find at 10PM at night.

A Pleasant Hotel Experience

from TravelerFL
After reading other reviews on Trip Advisor, I approached this hotel not knowing what to expect. The hotel shuttle runs regularly. The checkin and checkout process was speedy and professional. The room was clean, quiet with a comfortable bed, great view of the bay and a bathroom that was well-lit with everything working properly. The Breakfast buffet is reasonally priced and quite good. I did not drive, so did not have to deal with the $15.00 parking fee. All in all, this was a pleasant experience.

Roomy, with an upscale feel

from lebelgo
When I take morning flights from SFO for stays of a week or more, I usually prefer to take advantage of the airport hotels' Fly-Drive packages since they usually cost little more than long-term parking by itself. In fact, for stays of over 10 days, it's often cheaper. I would also advise those who travel to San Francisco by car that because of the horrific price of overnight parking in San Francisco, you can save a bundle by staying at airport hotels and commuting. That being said, I've stayed at the Hampton Inn (SFO South), Hilton Garden Inn (SFO North), and Best Western El Rancho among others, and I felt this hotel is the most comfortable and upscale of the group (with Fly-Drive packages). The only SFO airport hotel I've stayed at which was a bit better was the Hyatt, but that was with a Priceline bid. I do not feel the Hyatt is worth the retail price.
Why do I prefer this hotel? For one, the rooms are larger, and there's a desk with plenty of workspace, as well as a couch which actually faces the TV. For $10 a night more, you can actually get a bayview room with a nice view--none of the other hotels really have rooms with nice views. This hotel definitely tops the others in its lobby/lounge area. It feels like an old English manor with its fireplace, lobby, artwork, and bar.
The other reasons I like this hotel are practical. It's quieter than most (certainly quite a bit quieter than the Hampton Inn). Also, unlike most airport hotels, the shuttle runs every 15 minutes, not every 30 minutes. The shuttle itself is also more comfortable than most. The shuttles are real busses with an aisle down the middle and forward-facing seats, rather than vans where you have to squeeze in or ride sideways.
As for breakfast, although it's not free as in the Hampton Inn, the buffet offered a great variety of hot and cold food and juices, and was reasonably priced. Even the room service was reasonably-priced--so much so that I almost ordered it (usually I find the price of room service so exhorbitant that I don't even consider it). I don't remember exactly, but I seem to remember about $13 would get one person a full American breakfast including all taxes, delivery fees, and gratuities (cheaper per person if you get two, since the delivery fee is per order not per person).
I think they've finally gotten rid of their silly parking fee, because I didn't see an attendant when I arrived, left for the airport, or came back from the airport. I did stay over New Year's Eve, so at first I thought the parking guy may have just had the night off, but he wasn't there on 1/11/06 either, so I think the hotel has wisened up and stopped doing their $13 a night charge (most of the other hotels in the area don't have such a charge).

Clean, nice, economic hotel

Hi guys, just returned from a 3-day vacation in San Francisco. To pay back the benefit from the reviews on this website, I summarize my experience with this hotel.

Above all, I would definitely go back. I got the room priced less than $50 from hotwire and it was well worth the money. Clean, quiet, courteous and helpful reception, and efficient room service. As agreed by other reviewers, the warm cookies when we checked in were definitely a notch, esp. at 11:00pm when SF was raining, windy, and cold (Gee, there were only 6hours drive from LA to SF, but the temperature could be as different as 15 degrees!).

We did not try the hotel restaurant as we go out during daytime. But we did see some flight crew and pilots checking in and out (I guess they find this hotel pretty comfortable too, eh?). About the "flat pillow" problem other reviewers have complained about, I think the hotel may read the comments and did put at least four pillows in my bed!

Now comes to the parking. $13/night is definitely trying to tell me they only want the passengers from flight, not a tourist driving his/her own car (like me). But I chit-chat a bit and they gave me a voucher, which saved me two nights parking (i.e. I was only charged one night parking for three days). I guess they have received a lot of parking complaints and made efforts to improve that.

I was not bothered by the light at all (some reviewers complained it is too dim). The big Christmas tree decoration is my son's favor. Hi, for $50, I guess this is the best you can get.

Downside: the view is not good even though I have some bay view (most views are blocked by the highrise on the other side of stress). I guess I was still in a mood of being at a beach resort in Monterey Peninsula (Best Western Beach Resort) :-)

Above average hotel

I stayed for 4 days. Check in was a breeze and the morning front desk staff was very accomodating making sure my room was ready even if I arrived very early. The chocolate chip cookie was an added bonus.
Location was excellent for those wishing to rest like me. There was a trolley to pick you at the hotel and take you to downtown Burlingame and an airport shuttle to take you to the BART. Downtown San Francisco was 20 mins away. I dont mind staying here on my next visit this coming spring.

Nice views

from Boeing767
The property itself is okay - about how other reviewers have described it. The major downside is (given that it is an airline crew hotel for the most part) is that they DO NOT give HHonors points or stay credit on crew-discounted rooms.

What chafes me about that especially is that the "discount" rate we paid was similar to or more than what some of the other posters mention.

The views are nice, but not worth the long wait for the bus. Next time it will be the Hilton Garden Inn or Embassy Suites.

Ok place to stay

from leungv999
I stayed at the Doubletree Burlingame San Francisco Airport for 2 days over the Veteran's Day long weekend. The hotel seemed quiet although there were alot of flight attendants staying there. Check-in was a breeze and took 2 minutes; I got a cookie. The room was medium sized with 2 double beds (although I requested for 1 king bed) on the 5th floor. Washroom was clean and included toiletries. I liked that they have a small business center, free of charge. All you needed is your room key and you can get in. You have internet, printer, copier and fax machine. The entire time I was there, I did not see anyone else using the business center.

One bad thing is parking at $13 USD/day. If you are willing to walk a block, there is some street parking, but you have to find a spot. I managed to find a parking spot each night and did not have to pay. This hotel is about 15 minutes on the highway to San Francisco downtown. It really isn't that bad.

Considering that I paid only $47 US/night, I thought that it was a steal to have this quality of hotel. But if I had to pay full price, I would consider other hotels in the area, that includes free parking and free breakfast. All in all, I had a good experience at the Doubletree. If I am able to obtain this same rate the next time, I would stay here again.

Top Local Tips for Burlingame

Outstanding bakery Skip any hotel breakfast and go to Copenhagen Bakery in downtown Burlingame (1226 Burlingame Ave.). Truly outstanding baked goods, pastries, rolls and decent coffees. Tastes like a true French/German bakery. Also very popular with the lunch crowd.

Stacks Restaurant Stacks is only open for breakfast and lunch. The food is consistently excellent and service as well.
