I want to live in this hotel!

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is the best hotel I've ever stayed in, starting with all of the people who work here who always make my husband and I feel like we are the most important people in the world (Stephen and Kristina and David and Christian and Stephanie and Lisa and Jim and Eli, etc.) ... you know who you are! Even though we are not famous, we certainly feel like we are when we come here, because everyone bends over backwards to make sure our every need is accommodated. They always make sure we stay in our favorite room as well! And the rooms are great, too, from the decor, to the pillow cases with our initials embroidered on them and stationery with our names on it that we got on our last visit, to the Bose radio and bedside controls for the AC, etc. I can't say enough about this hotel. I would live there if I could. I can't wait for my next visit.

t come cheap... but you get what you pay for

Truly first class and special. My wife and I are reluctant to check into large suites at hotels we don't know.. if we pick the wrong place we have a poor trip and squander alot of money in the process. This hotel was a *very* pleasant surprise. We couldn't find alot of current reviews relating to the suites, probably because their clientelle don't get chatty on travel message boards. How expensive is this place? Large suites with extra rooms for the kids will set you back many thousands each night. We had little choice of configuration because several guests apparently stay in these suites months at a time! What does their discerning clientele see in this hotel?.. The subtle touches that are very difficult to find elsewhere, or to put your finger on. Terrific food and unique snacks everywhere in the room and through room service, large comfortable spaces furnishings/fixtures that feel like a luxury home, not a hotel. A staff that ignores you to provide privacy, but then hops to attention like a personal army or task-force when you need assistance. Ample security. We travel with 2 young children and this place was perfectly accomodating. They knew when we needed them and knew when to leave us alone. Hotel people were everywhere.

If you are the type of person who gets tummy-butterflies when you get the bill you may find some reason to gripe; but if you really don't care what it costs and you want to be treated perfectly, then THIS is "the" Beverly Hills hotel for you.. if you are lucky enough to find a large enough room that is. We asked to reserve the suite above ours to be closer to the pool for our next stay, however the guest in that suite is staying for a year. 'That' speaks volumes in our opinion.

Good, Sometimes Great

from FlyOneWorld
The Peninsula Beverly Hills is a good, sometimes great hotel. The rooms are very well appointed and large. The feature extensive television selections, internet, fax, fresh fruit, a deep soaking tub. Separate shower and Molton Brown bath products. The bar area is elegant and the service good. Their restaurant Belvedere is a good choice all day long. The Belvedere is a AAA 5 star and it shows. We enjoyed breakfast immensely and dinner selections that include truffled mac n cheese were intriguing. The hotel offers Lexus drop off service in town which is very helpful.

I have booked via Amex on several occasions. I have never received an upgraded room as described by Amex, yet the hotel insists I got my upgrade, this is annoying. During my last stay the water boiler failed to make hot water on our floor. After 1.5 hours of waiting for a shower, I complained for a second time, they agreed to extend a free evening for our troubles. I find that attitude refreshing and in contrast to how they handle Amex upgrades.

Some rooms can be noisy or very sunny early in the morning so keep that in mind when you enter the room so you can match the room to your tolerances.

Talk About Over Rated

Stayed at this hotel and thought with all the great reviews that it would be fantastic. What a let down. Service was terrible at every level. The only good service was the car valet and he to made a mistake when getting my car. They had my car confused with a new Bentley, small problem for me but it could have been a big problem for the guy in the Bentley. One big problem is the very small pool area. It was a nice weekend so we wanted to spend some time at the pool. NO ROOM at the pool. We where told we needed to make reservations. This was not for a cabana but for just a lounge chair. I was told to come back in a few hours and see if something would come up. At these prices I dont think I should wait or make a reservation to enjoy the pool. Room was fair about the same level as a Ritz or Four Seasons but the service was bad. I would never go back for the amount of money they charge - Unless your an A list actor or producer the service will be sub par.

Shaky front desk service but otherwise a very nice hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Initially shaky first impressions - we arrived after a long haul flight in the late afternoon and our room was not yet ready... the cashier at the front desk was not particularly apologetic despite the fact that we were exhausted, it was the first day of our honeymoon and that he voluntarily acknowledged from his computer records that we have stayed at other Peninsula hotels in the US and Asia before... He then reluctantly herded us into the bar for a complimentary drink after telling us it would be 45 minutes until our room was ready. However poor first impressions were more to do with our experience with the particular cashier (who also overcharged us on check-out and again with psuedo-apologetic manner when asked to rectify the bill) rather than our overall experience at the hotel. It is the cashier's poor hospitality skills which prevents a 5 circle rating.

As honeymooners we were given a bottle of Perrier Jouet and chocolate covered strawberries. The room attendant who prepared it all made a fuss of us and even went down to the bar to fetch us another complimentary tipple to have after the champagne. The plush room furnishings are lovely (as they are in all the Peninsula hotels, with exception of slightly shoddy NYC branch), the roof pool and views of the hills beautiful (even if the pool is much smaller than given to believe from pictures) and the food/service at the Belvedere excellent. Two major plus points of the hotel is that it operates a non-smoking policy and a 24 hour check-in/check-out policy, which meant that we were able to keep our room until late evening the next day before catching a late long haul flight, at no extra charge (compare with The Four Seasons which will charge 50% of the room rate for this facility). Additionally when another guest trumped us to our pre-booked taxi down to Hollywood, a hotel car was arranged at no extra cost and the same driver even came back to fetch us later that afternoon.

A great hotel, but its front desk staff need better hospitality training and should be more organised with guests' rooms especially when they are arriving off long haul flights.

Royal Ripoff

I had anticipated the very best, but found the hotel to be very overpriced for what was offerred. The room smelled of chemicals from the carpet, the room service was habitually late and there was a $400.00 overcharge mistake on my bill. The food was just above average. A very disappointing experience for over $1,000 per night.

World Class

We stayed here for 5 nights and booked a villa at a rate of $625 per night.
An equal suite in a hotel as good as this in London would in my estimation set you back about $3000.
Im not very easily impressed as Ive had the good fortune to stay in many 5 star hotels, but the attention to detail and ratio of hotel stafff to guests is better and higher than ive seen anywhere. It would seem every member of the staff knows your name and every enquiry and request delt with the upmost efficency. To give an example,we asked the concierge to get us a reservation at a very nice restaurant. They arranged for us to be taken there and back in the hotel rolls royce at no charge and when we got our bill we found that the hotel had arranged for our desserts to be on the house.Impressed indeed!

bedding is phenomenal

My husband, two daughters and I stayed at the Peninsula for a week in mid-August 2004, and had a wonderful experience! Our room was beautiful, with the best hotel beds we have ever slept in, and the bathroom very spacious with a separate glass-enclosed shower stall. The hotel staff was courteous and always eager to please. While there were a few mishaps (e.g., we had reserved a cabana but when we showed up at the pool the next morning we were told there was no reservation), the staff did everything to rectify the situation. The hotel is also great for people and celebrity-watching: during our stay Tony Bennett checked into the hotel, (and we had a chance to chat with his production manager one evening in the hot tub), and we saw Steven Van Zandt (he is the guitarist in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, and he plays Silvio Dante on the Sopranos) at the pool reading scripts and talking on his cellphone. The best part was that our travel agent was able to get us all of this for $350 a night!

6 Pillows for a single King bed!!!

You cannot do better... though of course this hotel will cost you dearly.... 475+ depending on your room. Service is Spectacular, as are the rooms. Well worth the price, and a delight to experience.

Of course one considers the location, the room and the experience of staying at one of the World's best hotels.... I usually stay in lesser hotels (where at this cost one could reside for 3 days), yet one look and it's worth the bucks.... and damn, those 6 wonderful pillows!

Thanks Zeus I wasn't paying the bill.... business trip and all that...

Excellent Experience!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have traveled my entire life and have never come across such a wonderful hotel experience. From the beginning to end, I was accomidated with the most surperb service. I also highly recommend the moonlight massage for a romantic evening and then top it off with a wonderful dinner at the Belvedere. The personnel working there are very down to earth but also extremely tentative. I highly recommend at least one night of blist in your life - spent here at the Peninsula Hotel, Beverly Hills.
