A real dump

from A TripAdvisor Member
Hotel staff is quite good, but this place is due for an overhaul. Rooms are horrid. Stains on the carpet, literally a hole in my wall left from the bathroom door knob. Musty smell throughout the facility.

Great Location, but age is showing

from Rocklin97
My husband and I just returned from a 3 night stay at the Beverly Hilton. The property was located in a great area but the rooms are definitely starting to show their age. First of all, we arrived to find that there were not any available nonsmoking rooms as we had previously requested. The front desk upgraded us to a smoking Jr. Suite which we were told "could be very smoky". The suite was OK with the exception of some loose tile in the shower, peeling wallpaper, and a lack of towels.
Each night, we were either shorted a complementary newspaper, floormat, or face towel of some kind. None of the ice machines on any of the four floors were working. Upon check-out I noted that extra charges had been placed on my bill for the suite upgrade. I had to argue with the front desk associate to have these removed. Thank goodness, I only paid $95 per night. I would not pay any more for a night at this property unless they upgraded their rooms a bit.

Fine Service, Great Location, But Showing Its Age

from jackosan
Just spent 3 nights at the Beverly Hilton and I agree with much of what other reviewers have written, both positive and negative. On the positive side, the hotel is in a fabulous location, which does much to justify its otherwise inflated rates and prices. It boasts quick access to most anywhere in West L.A./Santa Monica/Venice Beach/Hollywood, etc., is a short walk to Beverly Hill's shopping district, and provides complimentary town-car service for short rides. Also, the service was first-rate, from the bell-hops to the desk staff to the restaurant waitstaff, pool staff, and the concierges. On the negative side, the hotel sorely needs a comprehensive rehabilitation. Properly redone, the Beverly Hilton could be very retro-chic, especially with its glitzy history and famous clientele. Right now, it is just old. The rooms are on the smallish side, although many have nice balconies. While clean (except for some mildew in the bathtub tile grouting), the furnishings and appointments were unimpressive. We had breakfast there each day in the dining room by the pool (olympic size, very nice!). The food was quite good, but also quite pricey. I circled the buffet dinner one evening, but decided that, for $33 dollars apiece, it was well worth calling for the car and heading to outside restaurants. The $24 daily valet parking charge is a bit steep, but is to be expected given the Beverly Hilton's ritzy location and the lack of parking alternatives.
Also, the valet service was swift. We never had to wait more than 5 minutes for our car, and in the mornings, the valets placed cold bottles of Evian water in the driver and passenger cupholders, a pleasant surprise. All-in-all, the hotel is a fair value for $140-175 per night and a good value if you can get in for less. If you pay much more than that, however, you are likely to feel disappointed.

I have stayed at this hotel many times. If you know what you are doing, you will love this hotel as I do. You must ask for a "Cabana Room" on ground level next to the pool. These rooms are great! So great that I actually took a picture of my room...and I travel six months out of the year for business and don't give much thought to taking pictures. The cabana rooms are newly decorated and very large and clean.

If you cannot get the cabana room, don't stay at this hotel. I have been told that the rest of the hotel is older and needs to be renovated.

The restaurant by the pool has an excellent breakfast!!!!

Keep your stay by the pool. Great cabana rooms, great gym, great pool, great restaurant all within 200 feet of your bedroom!

NOT a 4-star, great locatin, careful...

I booked this hotel on Hotwire for $89 and it claimed that it was a four star hotel. I can see how anyone who booked a four star hotel and paid a four star price ($200+ on the Beverly Hilton website) can be upset. The hotel IS NOT four stars. It may qualify because of the services it offers (room service, pool, etc.), but the hotel is old.
While the room I had was clean (but small), I could tell that many wrinkles were painted over. However, the Beverly is in a GREAT location. It is on Wilshire/Santa Monica and just a few blocks from Rodeo Drive and Beverly Drive (where there are a ton of great restaurants and shops ranging from casual to luxurious). The freeways were also nearby, and from there you could get just about anywhere you needed to go in about 1 hour. All in all, expect a three star accomadations with four star ammenities and location, and remember that the Beverly Hilton is beginning to show its age.

Absolutely Marvelous!

This is absolutely a MUST for any Hollywood experience! From the minute we walked into this wonderful Hotel, we were treated as if WE were the "stars"! The staff was so friendly and helpful! We had a georgeous 2 bedroom suite that was simply to die for! Spacious, bright, clean, and just exceptional! There were plently of events going on at the hotel to keep us on the "famous alert"! I would personnally like to thank the Hotel Manager, Greg Tinsley, for all he did to make our stay unforgetable! We will be back!!!

What a terrible start to any holiday

from Tarasque
My wife and I stayed at Merv Griffin's Hotel twice on our trip in June/July 2004, and I have to agree with the London reviewer in respect of his comments - in fact it was almost word-for-word the exact same experience. I think we must have been on the same "Great West" trip!
The rooms were shabby (we were offered three), and the best of them had a carpet that was badly stained, the veneer was stripped off the furniture and there was mould growth around the caulking in the shower.
This was definitely not the pleasant start we were expecting, especially as it took an hour to check-in after a horrendous delay at LAX becauseof the lack of Immigration Officers. Like the other reviewer, however, we did find some consolation in Trader Vics. The atmosphere and food were excellent.

Forget the neagtive reviews!

The stay at the Beverly Hilton was perfect from the moment of arrival: the staff at the valet parking, front desk, conciegre, housekeeping, restaurants, and bar were all very attentive helpful, and above all friendly. Our room was spacious, bright, cheerful, and quiet.( We were located in one of the Cabana rooms) Most fun was meeting Merv . He was very open to meet hotel guests and seemingly delighted to speak with us for a few minutes. It was a great 4 day stay. The majority of our meals were outside of the hotel. The meals we had at the hotel were satisfactory, not spectacular.

Spend 2 nites at the Beverly Hilton and just want to say it was a great experience, the employees were great they could not do enough for you, we had wonderfui rooms overlooking the front with a nice balcony (you should call couple days ahead and ask for this type room as we did) the pool was lovely and overall it was very nice and would recommend to anyone. thanks

Great Stay at the Beverly Hilton

from A TripAdvisor Member
After reading other reviewers' mixed impressions of the Beverly Hilton, I was slightly concerned when I won a four-night stay at the hotel for $85/night on Priceline. I made sure to request a renovated room and received one on the third floor. Other than a less-than-impressive bathroom (tiny, fluorescent lighting, stained marble, had to request a hair dryer), I enjoyed a very pleasant stay overall. The room was large, decorated in shades of green, yellow and pink, with a minibar, writing desk, floor-to-ceiling windows, etc. While the front desk staff were a little chilly, requests by other staff (pool area, housekeeping) were quickly met with a friendly smile. Enjoyed a full day sunning by the beautiful pool and had lunch in the nearby restaurant. Parking was expensive ($21 for self-park, $24 for valet) but given that I paid such a relatively low cost for the room and that street parking was non-existent, it was worth it.

Top Local Tips for Beverly Hills

Taking a bus isn't that bad People always say you need a car to get around LA, but we took the bus everywhere we went and it wasn't that bad! Fares were cheap ($2 per ride) and service was frequent. Even when we took it at night (10pm), we felt safe and got home very quickly.

If coming from the 405 freeway On Wilshire, make sure to stay in the right lane once you see the country club on the left, otherwise you will miss the entrance into the hotel.

Beverly Hilton Beautiful hotel. Friendly staff. They had a complimentary limo service for the Beverly Hills area.
