Stand out service, hip hotel
from Portard
Stayed just last month for the first time. Incredibly cool hotel but without the attitude that hip hotels sometimes tend to have. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Loved the cabanas for dinner by the pool- spent most of my time there. Rooms are spacious with great beds and big bathrooms.
Best spot in B.H.

This hotel is such a breath of fresh air. From the incredible, modern design, awesome blue on blue restaurant to the perfect rooms...we loved it! Want to come back for a private dining cabana by the pool.
Old Hollywood Style with New Hollywood Perks
from steeman
I stayed at the Avalon this past June and was pleasantly surprised by how nice both the hotel and the staff was. The style is very minimalist and sleek, but it was quite comfortable nonetheless. The pool cafe was very nice and the rooms with their own stereo system and balcony were nice extras as well. They do zap you with a hefty fee to park your car, but besides that, it was quite nice. I wouldn't recommend it for families, but it is perfect for a couple or someone in L.A. on business.
My new favorite place!!!

The Avalon is fabulous! I stayed there recently while on a business trip. The hotel and the staff are amazing.....very accomodating and service-oriented. I had a great dinner at the blue on blue restaurant in the hotel. I recommend Avalon and blue on blue to everyone traveling to Los Angeles!
Mid-century style

Love Avalon, its design- everything. The food at blue on blue is superb. I read about it in GQ magazine and knew I had to check it out.
I think my favorite are the lucite chairs in the lobby.

Just returned from a biz trip to LA and was happy to start out on such a great note w/ the Avalon. I am not new to the trendy hotel seen as my boss loves to try them out and I am usually disappointed once I leave the lobby. Not so w/ the Avalon. The staff was VERY friendly and my co-workers and I all commented on how it didn't even feel like being in LA. My room was comfortable, clean, quiet and very stylish. We ate in the restaurant (a rare occurrence when I travel) and were not disappointed. When I received the wrong salad and let my waiter know, it was quickly replaced w/ the proper one. The waiter suggested a fantastic bottle of wine and didn't give us any attitude when we told him we were on a work budget.
I have to say I was wary after reading some of the comments on this site...I'd definitely give them a try.
P.S. I could see how a pool side room could get really noisy on the weekends so request away from the pool if your looking for quiet.

Boycott the snobby and uncompassionate!!!!

My boyfriend and I had our first date at the hotel bar on Christmas Eve and arrived a year later to celebrate our one year anniversary with a drink at the bar. Before setting foot into the hotel, we were turned away by management because we weren’t hotel guests. We were just two people, looking to spend a romantic evening reminiscing. It was obvious that we weren't there to party hard and raise hell. It was a big disappointment and a very unfortunate situation. The manager was completely uncompassionate and didn’t seem to care that he put a damper on our anniversary night.
I will never go back there again.

Not worth it!!!

For the $270 I paid to stay at this hotel, I'd have to say that I was SEVERELY disappointed. Sure, I'm an admirer of mid-century themed locations, but this was nothing more than a motel in an alley with a few nice pieces of furniture. Our room was tiny and resembled a hospital room - we had to go through an alley to get to it and our car was parked lord knows where! Our room had a view of the alley where a group of men liked to gather and hang out.
For a better deal, try Le Meridien or even the Best Western Beverly Hills. You'll be much happier than this overrated, trendy shack.

Skip the bar!
from Ajune22
This was our first time staying at a boutique hotel. We decided on the Avalon over Le Meridian and the W. The front desk staff was wonderful as they were extremely accomodating and helpful.
However, we decided to cut our night short at the Whisky Blue and end our evening in the Avalon's bar and restaruant. My husband and I were having a private conversation with another customer at the bar when the bar tenders over-heard our conversation and because they did not have the same 'political' view as we did they decided to not serve us for the remainder of our evening. I have NEVER been treated like this in my life! I was unaware that a bartender can make a personal decision not to serve you based a conversation you are having amongst friends that is not interfering with anyone! We spoke to the manager (Mark) who was extremely rude and disrespectful! I told him we were staying at the hotel and this was no way to treat a customer. He said if we didn't like it we could leave! With this, I asked the front desk to find us a room at either the W or Le Meridian. Unfortunently, they were both booked for the evening.
We spoke to the hotel manager who apologized for the uncouthnes of the bar manager. On an $800 bill, we were provided a credit of $60 and asked that we please come back again.
Our second (and last night) we ended up back at the hotel by 10:30. We really wanted to go and hang out at the bar, however, felt extremly un-welcomed and decided not to spend another dollar there. This was very disapointing!
There are many other great hotels with great bars and restaraunts in Beverly Hills that I will spend my money at next time!

Fabulous Hotel
from TDSantaRosa
I just returned from a wonderful stay at the Avalon Hotel with my daughter. I cannot say enough about the service, atmosphere and the room. We stayed in the "quiet" seperate wing of this hotel. The room was large, the sheets were like butter and the beds were very comfortable. We ordered room service...I highly recommend the hot chocolate chip cookies and milk. The bellman brought us two complimentary CD's to take with us, we had forgotten ours at home. The location is close to shopping on Robertson, Rodeo drive and Melrose Avenue but is in a quiet residential neighborhood. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a step back into a more glamorous time. As my daughter says the hotel is a Retro-modern experience.
