Extremely unpleasant experience!

Very upset about the hotel's management.. We booked Desert Palm Hotel through Hotels.com on Dec.8, 2004. However, upon arriving at the Hotel on April 15, 2005, we were informed that there was no room reserved for us. We were very upset about it since we prepaid $749 for more than four months in order to secure a room in the hotel. The day managers referred us to the Days Inn that was operated by the same management team. It was so obvious that the two hotels were not comparable, but we were informed that they had the same ratings. We were very tired from our trip at the time, so we accepted the change but asked for some refund as the penalty for their not keeping the promise. The managers agreed to consider our request. However, nothing happened on the following two days. When we tried to talk to the managers on the third day, we were told the managers were either having a toothache or on vacation. On the fourth day, we requested a meeting with the hotel general manager for an explanation. The general manager's behavior was extremely non-professional and he treated customers with disrespect. His demeanor could best be described as both arrogant and hostile. He did not wish to take the proper responsibility for the reservation but tactically accused us (two ladies) yelling to him whenever we started to talk. He proceeded to try to end the meeting by telling us to leave his office and threatened to call the police. Although the meeting with him only lasted less than three minutes, it was the worst experience we have ever had.

Well located for convention center visitors

The hotel is ideally located for business travellers visiting the convention center. It is within easy walking distance, with a bus stop very close by for those who prefer not to go on foot. Although we didn't visit Disneyland on this trip, I think its proximity to Disneyland is also quite OK. There are a couple of shops right next door, which is useful, as well as restaurants and a place to grab a snack in the hotel. The hotel is clean, the staff were friendly and attentive without being pushy and the rooms were of a good size. One of our party was given a suite to himself at no extra cost. It is not the most luxurious hotel, but as we were out all day, we did not need great luxury. The rates we paid were very reasonable and we found the hotel to be very good value for money.

Overbooked!!!

I was in town for a convention and booked a 5 night stay through hotel.com for desert palms hotel and suites. Upon arrival late in the evening, I was told that they overbooked their rooms but was given no REAL explanation, just a cab to a hotel 1/2 mile away. I booked desert palms because it was close to the convention site and I knew I would be going back and forth several times a day. However, I was forced to walk this extra mile every trip with high heels and a briefcase. The LEAST they could have done was let me know before I showed up that evening. I could have planned ahead and not have been so angry. On top of it all, they put me in a room far cheaper than desert palms, and made no mention of reimbursement! I was appalled! When I tried to talk to the supervisor, it took THREE attempts to get a hold of her and when I finally did, she took my number and told me she would get back to me the next day...well you guessed it, SHE DIDN'T! And when I called back, she put the blame on me! What nerve! I should NOT have been the one doing all this work when I did NOTHING wrong. I was NOT HAPPY with the service, they way they handled the situation, and the minimal reimbursement they offered. I know I am not the only person they screwed over, and believe it or not I'm not the angriest person either; they lost A LOT of customers that week and I'm certain the word will spread.

Our stay was great!

Hotel will be nice when complete renovations are done. We were there in 10/2003 and although construction was going on our stay was great. Very spacious 2 BR with 2 baths; great for several people particularly if going to Disneyland and Convention Center. Our room was clean, new carpet, well maintained; fridge - small but adequate; microwave a little small but worked for us. Construction did not bother us; would not have worked if we wanted a pool at this time. Construction workers needed to park someplace else to allow more parking for guests.

Dining at Rain Forest Cafe in Downtown Disney If you plan to eat a meal at The Rain Forest Cafe in Downtown Disney (great place to go with kids), make a reservation or you will have a long wait.

Order In With young kids (6&9) we found it much easier to order in..We also took a taxi to the local supermarket and stocked our fridge in the hotel...It was a great money saver and time saver...And the leftovers were great for lunch the next day...which left lots of $$ for the treats...ice cream, candy apples etc...
