A Truely Great Experience

My wife and I just returned from the White Stallion Ranch after spending five days there. We echo the reviews of the Ranch that already exist in tripadvisor.com and thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wants to spend an active vacation in the Arizona desert before the inevitable urban sprawl makes this more and more difficult. The True family, who live and work on the Ranch, have created a culture where the wranglers, kitchen staff and all other employees work very hard to ensure that everyone has a good time. We met a lot of great people from all over North America and Europe, most of whom have been coming back to the Ranch religiously year after year. We sigificantly improved our riding skills and appreciated the variety of rides available. The all-day ride around the local mountains is not to be missed (provided you have bike shorts to wear underneath!). Nature hikes and bike tours were also a pleasant surprise. Weather was as expected for the desert. 10/10.

Loved White Stallion Ranch

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I just returned from White Stallion Ranch with my two sons of 14 and 13. All novice riders, we had a wonderful time and by day 3, the boys were participating in fast rides and team penning.
It's a very easy place to mix with other guests. The bar and dining room seating is arranged in such a way that you gradually meet everyone else who is staying.
There were people of all ages and nationalities staying and every kind of family grouping from singles to grandparents with grandchildren.
The staff are without exception amazing. The food is excellent, hearty and varied. All the evening activities were lots of fun and suited to all age groups.
We very much hope to visit again next year. In February the mornings and evenings are chilly but when the sun is up it is bathing suit weather, perfect.

My husband and I have just returned from the ranch and we have had the most amazing experience.We many years ago said we would go on a ranch holiday but never got around to it and now we wish we had gone sooner!.The ranch has a very relaxed and welcoming feel and I guarantee that within 24hours you will be 'chomping at the bit'to pack in as much riding as possible.The wranglers go out of their way to ensure even novice riders get the opportunity to progress with their riding skills, by day 2 we had taken a lesson to progress from walking pace to loping (cantering)which meant we could take part in both slow and fast rides in the desert.There is a variety of rides all day each day so you can do as much or as little as you like.once you have been on a fast ride you can enter into the team penning competition which we did twice,great fun which makes you feel like a real cowboy as you herd cattle into a pen(well 3 cattle actually but you get the idea!)The horses are beautiful and very well cared for and trained to do their job well.We had the same horse for the whole stay which was wonderful but I have to admit to having a tear in the eye when I said goodbye to my trusty steed 'Razor'.The accomodation was very comfortable and spacious and the lounge ang bar area was cosy and relaxed.The ranch operates an 'honour' system for drinks from the bar ,just help yourself and write out a ticket,this adds to the relaxed informality.Food is good and plentiful and soft drinks and hot beverages are always available.I have been fortunate enough to have travelled a lot and visited some stunning destinations but this was a really memorable experience because it was doing something so different in a beautiful peaceful setting surrounded by the beautiful scenery and with the opportunity to get close to the horses we can recommend it to anyone looking to escape the rat race for a time.Nearly every guest had been before one had been going for 22 yrs and another 10 yrs in a row we can see why try it you'll love it.

When I was initially researching which ranch to visit, I was torn between White Stallion and nearby (well sort of) Tanque Verde. I decided to follow the positive reviews on Trip Advisor and I was not disappointed. What an amazing place!
I was travelling alone for the first time and was anxious about whether or not I would feel out of place amongst the families and couples, but this really wasn't the case. There was a great mix of both families, couples and travellers (both male and female) going it alone from all over the world.
I cannot praise the staff highly enough - everyone - and I mean everyone, at the ranch is friendly, approachable and can't do enough for you. The food is fantastic (especially the cookies!)and there is so much to do, you will not be bored!
The horses are all in excellent condition and with impeccable manners - a real compliment in itself to the owners and the wranglers who work hard and look after them. They have ponies and horses to cater for all levels of ability and confidence and whilst they are keen for you to enjoy your stay, they are also keen to ensure the safety of all guests and horses by ensuring that they match the right horse to the right rider.
The scenery is amazing and the sunsets from the outside bar area are beautiful. There is a great gym, pool area and a masseur with magic hands!
As well as a variety of riding programs throughout the day, the ranch also offers hikes, bike rides, and for the ladies, trips to local shops. There is evening entertainment too.
I arrived at White Stallion a stressed out Pom, desperate for a break from work, nervous about what to expect and praying that I would not embarrass myself with my horsemanship skills.
I left (very reluctantly) a very relaxed lady who is already planning her return visit. I met some great people (both working at the ranch and fellow guests) and unlike other holidays where you feel ready to return home, I felt like I could have stayed forever!
I have improved my riding and my confidence in the saddle has increased no-end. I was really impressed by the number of new and novice riders who in a couple of days were loping across the desert.
You must go and see for yourself - don't forget to have a go at team penning, its really good fun! (check out the photos!)

What fun we had

We spent a week at the ranch and had fun riding, cattle penning, swimming, feeding the horses, basketball, tenning, petting zoo. The staff are the best, sincerely enjoying the guests and making our time fun. What food!!! You have to experience it to believe it. Go there, you won't regret it.

This was our first visit to a dude ranch, but it certainly won't be our last!
Everything at White Stallion exceeded our expectations. We have been fortunate enough to travel to many parts of the world, so we have high expectations - this ranch was superb!
From the friendly and welcoming staff and wranglers, to the food, scenery, accommodation, and, of course the wonderful horses! These people really care about their horses and it shows. The saddles were good quality and comfortable, and all the horses we rode were willing, kind and very safe.
They are hand picked to suit individual riding experience - my Mum (75 years young) had never ridden before, and expected maybe to be brave enough to do one short ride - but she enjoyed it so much that she rode every day for 5 days and even went on a mountain ride!
My daughter is an experienced rider and went on different rides that were interesting and challenging.
I have not ridden for 20 years, and was very rusty, but I rode at least once every day and we even did some team penning which was really exciting! It was fantastic.
There were plenty of other activities - hiking, swimming, tennis, hayrides, breakfast rides to a cookout in the desert, or just relaxing by the pool.
The casitas were comfortable and clean, with plenty of hot water for baths or showers,and the grounds are beautifully kept.
The food was plentiful, freshly prepared and delicious. Even though we had some dietary restrictions, there was no problem and we ate like kings!!
I could go on and on about this wonderful ranch - there is not one single negative thing to say - except that 5 nights was not enough!
BRAVO to the True family - may your special brand of hospitality continue to give pleasure in a world which is changing so fast (and not for the better). This little corner of Arizona is filled with peace and fun. It's a "must do" for everyone - young or old. But don't just take my word for it - go visit and enjoy!!

Heaven right here on earth

My sons 11 and 13 and I had our best family vacation in years at White Stallion Ranch. Went with reservations for 3 nights, stayed 7! only left then because they were sold out! Everything at White Stallion was planned by the friendly True family with meticulous attention to detail. multiple bird houses with feeders dug into the cactus plants, geckos scampering over the rocks, mini rabbits hopping through the well planned garden, choice of massages (you can't pass by the muscle melting hot stone massage by their gifted, spiritual masseuse), tennis court with copper painted horse scenes, hot tub, basketball court, swimming pool, hay rides, roping trick cowboys, horse shoes, wranglers with jinglebell spurs and trails into western movie set scenery. Cooked to order breakfasts, lunches on the patio or on the trails, and 3 course gourmet to cowboy dinners of salmon, shrimp, steak, chicken pleased kids and adults alike. Happy staff, wise and wisecracking wranglers , guests from US, Canada and Europe and Asia, including non riders, grandparents, teens, childless couples and a 9-11 widow and children mingled over poker, dinner and trails. The horses were absolutely the best trained and kept, and lessons available daily. Highlight was the team penning events, where we competed as family groups, women over 40 groups, teens vs parents, etc...Every night a different form of entertainment, astromomers with telescopes to see saturn and nebula, a critter man with tarantulas and snakes to hold, line dancing instruction. My only disappointment was having to leave... Even my 11 yo who objected initially, saying "what part of getting up early and getting a sore butt do you think will be relaxing" couldn't be separated from his new best friends long enough to take my challenge of a game of shuffleboard.... ah well, guess i can have a house margarita on one of the saddle stools with my new best friends! The rides were the best- loping or slow, all day or an hour or two. Hikes for non riders, no driving, shopping, cleaning, telephones, ( ok, they had a business room, one tv and a washer dryer for you light packers!).. And good side trips if you choose..... I'm hooked

-my 9 yr. old daughter and I just returned from the WSR and had great experience- it's true that even if you are not outgoing the ranch brings it out of you with their friendliness. I found Russell True, the co-owner, very responsive to our queries of the horses and his organization of the rides, that occur 4 times a day, was exemplary. The horses knew their jobs and were well matched to our abilities. The horses are very well cared for. The room was comfortable even without a t.v. The food was good and the free, endless lemonade was much appreciated as all the riding makes one very thirsty. There was free fruit available at all times too. Of help would have been a little store for sunblock, gum etc. for those of us who took the shuttle there and had no car to leave the ranch if we needed something. The free horse treats that we could give to any and everybody was a nice touch too. I would not recommend the ranch for hi-tech kids as my son and husband had so much "culture-shock" they headed up to Phoenix and came and got us later in the week. The ranch is safe and the people warm, as was the weather, high 80's-low 90's. Look forward to visiting their sister ranch in Canada next year.

We just returned from a week at the White Stallion Dude Ranch and I can honestly say it was the best vacation that I've ever had.
The True Family make you feel like your part of thier family. I was most impressed with how Russell and Michael True (the owners) got to know every guests first name and always addressed you by your first name. From the wranglers to the front deak help, they all made you feel so special.
If your a beginner or an experienced rider your able to partisipate in all the riding activities. From the early morning Breakfast rides to the all day rides its an experience you will never forget or regret. From the kids to the senior citizens you leave there knowing that you got to experience what a real cowboy or cowgirl life was like.
I know my wife and I are going to do what many families have been doing for years, making the White Stallion Dude Ranch an annual event.

Best ranch anywhere

My eight year old daughter and I just returned from a vacation at the White Stallion ranch and we are already talking about going again next year. Everything there is great- it's a wonderful spot to go, especially if you have children. This is a vacation that will definitely be in our memories forever. It's a magical spot with a dynamite staff and very nice facility. It's worth every penny.

Top Local Tips for Tucson

Rent a car, but don't use Alamo from Phoenix!! We arrived at the Phoenix airport on Jan 2 and plannned to rent a car to drive to Tucson. We booked ahead from Alamo. When we got to the airport, we were greated by rude staff, and they did not have the correct reservation. The manager was busy too busy giggling on the phone to assist the woman dealing with our reservations, who was having trouble using the computer system. A surely young man finally came to her aid and informed us that the trouble was our fault because we had used the advanced fast check-in, after that he stormed away. It took us over an hour and a half to get our car and it was a smaller one than we had booked and had not been cleaned. (If this was fast check-in, I'de hate to see how long regular check-in takes). This was the worst car rental experience ever!! I kept on expecting someone from "Candid Camera" to pop out to tell us this was just a hoax and this was being taped for a new reality show. Nope, they were seriouse!

getting in and out The Ranch provides a gratis shuttle service to and from the Tucson airport.

Tombstone Tombstone is about an hour and a half from the ranch. Definitely worth seeing if you chose to spend a day off the ranch.
