Tanque Verde Ranch is beautiful
from linco711
Tanque Verde Ranch is a beautiful place. Unfortunately our vacation was not one of our best. My husband was bucked from his horse, on a walking ride. We spent the day in emergency. He was lucky to have only broken 3 ribs, and pulled cartiledges. We had to extend our stay several days since he couldn't fly home. We were only given about a 5% savings on the room. It was a very costly vacation. There were many other accidents at the time we were there, including 2 children. Take extra insurance when you visit just in case.
Management Response
from TanqueVerde
Thanks for your feedback, and I am really sorry your husband fell off his horse. I wanted to assure you that we take the safety of our guests very seriously. We are certified through the national Dude Ranch Association safety program, and our Program Director is even certified to instruct the course, which requires an even higher level of expertise. We track any accident, and are constantly comparing and measuring ourselves against all other establshments, and have found our accident ratios to be among the lowest in the industry. I can assure you the safety of our guests is priority number one for us!
Sincerely,
Gus

This response is late, but I did want to apologize for your experience. We certainly place the utmost premium on the safety of our guests. We are known in the industry for having the highest standards for our "lope check" and other safety policies and procedures. Sometimes this works to our detriment in that occassionally guests get upset that they do not pass our lope check, but we feel our #1 priority must be the safety of all our guests. We track any accident we have, and review them in order to continue to improve both the safety and enjoyment of our guests. We attempt to control every possible variable that is within our control, because we realize that each of our guests are riding on a living, breathing animal in the Sonoran desert. Our team does not take this responsibility lightly.
You will love it!!!

Fabulous! We loved every second!!

There are so many hysterical great things to say about Tanque Verde. I giggle thinking about this place. The wranglers were so nice and so much fun. Tom was the best. The nightly entertainment was wonderful. The rooms were nothing special but you spend so much time outside it doesn't matter. The setting is stunning and the horses are really good. If you don't love horses though this isn't the place for you though. We did a lot of hiking that was lovely. The food is pretty good but very fattening -- watch out. The whole ranch is really terrific, the hottubs, pools, views, people, the saloon -- all just make a perfect vacation. The spa is very medicore however so don't bother getting massages. The therapists were only OK and the spa is tiny. There is a wonderful indoor pool and indoor and outdoor hot tub that do wonders for your saddle sore muscles. Tanque verde is the best!! I can't wait to return.
Great experience

Total Disappointment

Tanque Verde had come highly recommended to me by friends who had stayed at the facility and raved about the service, the food and the accomodations.
A friend and I had planned a vacation in a quality resort away from the cold Northeast for a six night stay during February. We reserved a unit at Tanque Verde with a bedroom having two queen sized beds and a living room with a fireplace overlooking the desert.
On our arrival, we were given a map to help us locate our unit and once we located it, we had to carry our luggage from the parking area up to the unit. The heating unit had malfunctioned and was not fully operational for two more nights. The evening meals were less than mediocre (breakfast and lunch were good). We lit the fireplace daily but the ashes were never emptied from the hearth. The rooms were not vacuumed once during our stay nor was dusting done (even after a wall thermostat was installed to replace a broken one which left wall plaster on the floor and table underneath the location). The indoor pool/spa were not available for use during our stay. It appeared they were doing renovations and maintenance to the structure both inside and outside. This little fact was never brought to our attention during the 13 months we held the reservations, which would have prompted us to investigate other accomodations; nor was there an adjustment to the daily rate.
The list could go on for several paragraphs (which my letter, written in February, to the General Manager did) but I think the above gives a general picture of our very disappointing experience at this resort.
Lastly, that letter to the General Manager was never acknowledged by the General Manager or any other member of management.

Will visit Tanque Verde again and again

We just returned from 3 nights at the Tanque Verde Ranch and it almost feels like coming home from summer camp as a child - I'm sad that it's over! There is such a community feel there. The wranglers are great with the horses and the horses are well mannered and taken care of (very important to horse lovers). They know how to take care of riders who don't necessarily have any riding experience. The service is great, the surroundings are beautiful. We were so happy with our overall experience that we're already planning our next trip. We don't have kids, but it's a great place to bring kids if you have them and they want to ride horses. I highly recommend the Tanque Verde Ranch!
Terrific resirt at a very reasonable price
from JimOKelly
This is a terrific resort for the outdoor person that likes to keep busy. The intermediate horseback riding is challenging on a variety of trails with rides that will interest all but the most demanding equestrians. The mountain biking is wonderful and so is the guide, Craig (the Monk). Depending on the ability of the group he will make it as easy or as tough as they can handle. The tennis pro, Darryl, is available to give lessons, play with you, or set up a game for you. There was hardly time left to lay by the large pool or hike the many trails available. The food was surprisingly good with many selections included for the vegetarian in the group. We were there in May after the crowds thinned out and this was beneficial. The staff could have not been more helpful or friendly. The value for your $$$ is outstanding.

I just came back from my third visit to TVGR. The first time just my boys, ages 4 and 6, and I went. We felt so welcome and so at ease. The kids program is excellent--but very horseback riding oriented. Your kids will not like it as much if they do not want to ride. Luckily, mine love to ride. Their riding has improved tremendously over the three years we have been going.
We always try and go when it is a little less crowded--ie. not around holiday times. We have found most of the guests to be very laid back and friendly. Your stay there makes you feel like you are part of a unique community. Can't say enough good things..we are booked again for next year....!

My husband and I along with our two girls -ages 4 and 11 had a wonderful time. The counselors are just the best. My 4 year old did just as much as my 11 year old. Mr.Cote (Owner)is right there every day saddling horses, feeding, talkingand eating right with every one else. There is alot more to do than ride too!! The food is unbelievable!!!! Would love to go back every year!!

A very limited horseback program from the perspective of availability of rides. TQGR provides introductory training and skills along with walk rides and loping rides. With an average of three types daily your times and adventures are limited. The meals are above average with hordes of food. The portions could use some right-sizing to allow for lesser appetites, and soft drinks cost an outrageous amount of money and I believe should be included in the cost. For my cost, I paid too much for the value I received. The groundskeeping is below what I would expect for a resort if this category. I admire the energy conservation effort of CFL lighting, however many ground lights were knocked over and in disrepair. I would recommend this resort, with proper preparedness and pricing structure. You cannot get much better than three mountain ranges and the beautiful desert scenery which abounds.
