Historical Traveller Reviews of Sheraton Tucson Hotel and Suites

This is nice

from TX_Carolyn
Stayed for one night June 22, 2006 - 2 adults/ 2 children ages 4&6 years old.

Call hotel for directions. Do not depend on any online direction sites.

Hotel lovely. Rooms are smaller than I expected from a Sheraton but it was fine for one night. We spent most of the evening at the pool which was clean and a nice layout to the pool area. Pool was located in the center of the hotel surrounded by the rooms so you didn't hear any traffic. Beds were quite comfortable and the hotel was quite.

Has one washer/dryer for the hotel located in an dimly hallway and behind a huge slat door. It was a little creepy.

Continental breakfast was a disappointment. Nice room to eat in and the buffet looked nice but the eggs were gross and the bacon skimpy. The IHOP next door probably would have been a better choice if we had time.

I would stay here again, but would skip the breakfast.

Outstanding for the off-season price

from dhammer53
Just got back from 2 nights. Suites were pricing out at $10 extra; so that's what we booked.
The regular suites reminded me of an Embassy Suites.

At check-in, I was upgraded to a speciality suite on the 4th floor.
These suites are hugh. The living room area was roughly 200 sq ft. Couch/chair/table/sink/dining table.

Nice pool area. Lobby atrium. Business center (room) just to the right of the front desk. If you ask, they'll let you check your e mail no charge (unoffically anyway). :)

The hotel is located about 6 miles east of I-10 on a major throughfare (Grant Ave).
It's 10 minutes away from Univ of AZ. This hotel is 15-20 minutes away from downtown Tucson. There's not much in the way of hotels downtown, unless you count the 'chains' at I-10

A hot/cold buffet breakfast is included at this hotel (for everyone).
We'd go back.

Disappointed this year

from A TripAdvisor Member
Have been using this hotel for the past 10 years. The property is showing its age lately. Although there have been some updates done in the past; I believe it the place needs some attention. We always get the suite and that is plenty of room for us. The helicopters do not bother us at all and we always stay on the 4th floor. What does bother us is when the sliding glass door to the 'balcony' is so old it will no longer slide open.

Tried to use starpoints to get the internet in our room...it worked last year...but this year they would not do it! So much for 'tell us your problems and we will fix it for you'. At $10 a day for internet service I could have a month of service for $40 at home. Forget it! We went out and bought a G card for WiFi cheaper!!!

We do like this hotel but at todays prices unless you get some kind of great deal or a good package deal I will be looking for another place next year to see what I can get for the $$$. I don't expect something for nothing...but I do expect my years of loyality to stand for something!

nice hotel

We rented a suite with king bed and sleeper sofa. Very nice furnishings. Fairly clean with promp maid service. The warm buffet breakfast was excellent and incuded in the price. We had 2 small children and it worked out well with the family. There is a door to seperate the living area from the bedroom. We stayed for 8 nights and were pleased. It was pricey but we were there during high season. Centrally located to all major sites in the area.

Not a four star hotel

from Dejaisadog
We are Starwood members and have stayed at some decent Sheratons in the past ( San Diego, Disneyland), but this property was bad. If the rooms were cheap, not $200 per night, it might be acceptable for somewhere just to sleep. We arrived about 7PM in Tucson and went to our delux suite and found it to be dirty and outdated. It looked like an old mountain cabin where the furniture is the stuff you would have given away ten years ago. The carpet was stained, as was the furniture. There were food bits in several places in the kitchen area and on the table. The neighborhood, parking lot and cage-like entry seemed a bit scary and felt unsafe. They told us this was their best room, and after viewing several others, that may well be. We ended up leaving and staying at the St. Regis, which was more expensive and quite nice. This is definetly not a four star hotel.

Great Hotel. Beautiful Rooms.

from tonyk81
This hotel is a wonderful place to stay in Tucson. The only thing I would suggest is to have more lighting along the walkways at night. The breakfast is great. If you are a Sheration Preferred Guest and ask them in advance they will give you a free upgrade to a suite.

One night the high speed internet wasn't working. They made an immediate attempt to resolve it but wern't able to. I was able to use the business center for $9.95 but when the manager found out about the problem we experienced she removed the charge and gave us some Starpoints toward a future stay.

The last thing was we forgot a pillow at the hotel. Not only did they find it, they volunteered to mail it back. We were still in Tucson so didn't need them to do that, but the offer that they care about their guests that much is a great feeling.

Sheraton was nice

from elo455
This hotel is very nice compared to other Sheratons. The rooms are newly remodeled with granite counters in the rooms. The staff is very plesant. I had a small complaint and was handled well with the Sheraton Promise.
This hotel is a top choice among hotels in Tucson.

Really Enjoyed My Stay!!

from Gippy26
I found myself having to make a quick trip to Tucson and was able to get a standard room for $50 on Priceline. Upon check-in, I was upgraded to a suite! I found this property to be nice. The room were spacious and clean, and the beds were comfortable. The only slight negative, it that the bathrooms are very small. with the sink being located just outside.
No time to enjoy the pool, but it looked very nice. The free breakfast was an added bonus - plenty of good quality food.
The Sheraton is located in a nice area of Tucson, with plenty of shopping and restaurants nearby. I did hear the helicopter land once at the hospital across street (like some others have commented on), but it really wasn't a distraction.
I'd would most certainly consider staying here again in the future!!

small and dark

from A TripAdvisor Member
We had just left Phoenix after staying at the Scottsdale Princess, so this may not be an unbiased review! However, having worked for a Sheraton for 5 years; I expected better. They upgraded us to a Suite for $10.00 more per night, (after having informed me it's usually $20.00. Also, having worked at a Sheraton, I knew they had the power to upgrade me for free.) The room we were asigned was on the ground floor right outside the lobby in a courtyard. The room itself was small and dark. It did have a seperate bedroom with a large window overlooking a parking lot. The window did not open. Bathroom was very small. I was disapointed not having an outside deck, so we made do with the entrance door propped open into the courtyard. Since we were right outside the lobby area (the first room as you walked out), there was a lot of traffic. They had free breakfast every morning; nothing special, scrambled eggs which looked like they were made from powdered eggs, breakfast meats, cereal and yogart, coffee and juice. We didn't spend a lot of time at the Hotel for the 4 nights we spent there. Mostly just mornings. When we came back on our 2nd evening there, we were dismayed to find the maid had thrown out a box full of avocados and fruit we had bought the previous day. My husband informed the front desk, and asked them to please not throw out anything that was not in the trash can. (The box was lying on the floor near the door, we had used it to prop the door open earlier!) They called us later and said they would either give us a $25.00 food voucher for the resturaunt there, or give us the upgrade for free. I chose the free upgrade. We never used the pool, (which looked a lot smaller than the pictures I had seen!), but we did spend most of our mornings in the courtyard, which was pleasant enough if you could overlook all the people coming and going on their way to the lobby or parking lot. Free parking as well. All and all, not a bad place if you are not planning to spend a lot of time there, centrally located and easy to find. I loved the gift shop they have in the lobby!

clean and spacious suite...noisy at night.

from zonitraveler
Stayed for 2 nights 3/19-3/21 with husband and 2 kids, ages 3 and 10. Used Starwood points and with its 'automatic upgrade' we got a suite with 2 double beds. The hotel lobby is a bit outdated. Suite was nicely appointed- gray/black drapes, maple headboards, black and white wall pictures ala Pottery Barn-esque. Our suite had a refrigerator, inroom coffeemaker, wireless internet, but no microwave. No matter. We didn't need it. Towels were fluffy and new. 2 TVs. 4 chair dinette. Bathroom was TINY, and oddly enough, the marble sink was not in the bathroom but rather in the room itself adjacent to the bathroom. make sense? No free bottled h20 here - it's $3 per Arrowhead bottle. Go buy a pack at the CVS pharmacy across the street. Free hot breakfast (great w/ kids) scrambled eggs/bacon/sausage/pancakes/oatmeal/cereals/fruits/bagels/yogurt.
Great deal! If you missed breakfast, IHOP is a few steps away. Now, MY ONLY NEGATIVE - if you desire a quiet night, forget it! I did not count sheeps, I counted the # of helicopters whirling up the rooftop (seemed like it) taking off from a helipad (the medical center maybe?) not far from the hotel...So much for the Sheraton sleeper beds! When I checked out, the front desk clerk asked how our stay was: I was yawning...

Top Local Tips for Tucson

Restaurant Suggestion Terra Cotta restaurant was very good (but not close to this hotel)

4th Avenue. Funky, interesting. Small area with plenty of cafes, neat shops, and lots of hippies. Give it a try!
