from EthelMWhen we arrived at about 3:00 the front desk was closed and we had to drive down the hill to check in at the L'Auberge front desk. The receptionist at the L'Auberge desk was happy to help but they didn't seem to really know how to look up the rooms and they couldn't get into the concierge's information to confirm some arrangements we had made.
We had reserved a king room but were given a room with two single beds and no view. We had to drive down again to get a different room. This room was better (it was on the 2nd floor with a king bed) but why didn't they give us this in the first place?
The rooms are dingy and the air-conditioning was hot air no matter what we did to the thermostat. We had to sleep with the back door open but each night the wind would pick up and the door would bang back and forth keeping us awake. So we just shut the door and let the room get warm and stuffy.
The bed was as hard as a rock and very uncomfortable. By the last day I was happy to leave. The views from the balcony are some of the best in Sedona but not enough to make me stay here again.
Sedona nightmare
from A TripAdvisor MemberFor $173 per night on average, this hotel does not compare to a Best Western in Fresno! Although the views are fantastic, the service is so BAD, the rooms are not well cleaned, and the rooms are so threadbare, that this hotel is really NOT worth the stay. PS - the pool is filthy. Locals agree that this hotel was great three years ago, but is a little iffy now.
Also - there is no one at the desk between 7PM and 10AM. The calls are routed down to L'Auberge, where the staff is not too interested in helping you. Also, their 'Complimentary Breakfast' consists of cut-up watermelon, some cold croissants, fake Orange Juice, and no coffee. The staff has no idea of how to direct you if you need a recommendation for a massage, spa, restaurant, etc. Parking is also a big issue. The reserved off-street parking is woefully insufficient.
There are many better deals in Sedona for less money.
Best Views in Town!!

from A TripAdvisor MemberThe Orchards - Not so great
from 8tolondonA Mostly great experience!
from A TripAdvisor MemberOur third-floor room was a pleasant surprise. Though we couldn't get a king bed (limited availability), the room did have several very nice items like a gas log fireplace and an in-room safe at no extra charge. Other amenities included microwave, refrigerator, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, double sinks, thick and thirsty towels and a great showerhead that gives a hot, pounding shower for aching shoulders and backs.
One of the best selling point of the Orchards Inn was having one the best views in all of Sedona! As we drove around the canyon, we made a point to notice the location of other hotels we considered, and with the exception of the Sky Ranch Lodge, the Orchard Inn rooms had easily the best view of any hotel in our price range. Make sure to ask for a second or third-floor view - either one will give you a fantastic view of the northeast part of the valley!
The Orchards Inn is connected to L'Auberge, their high-scale resort community just down the hill. If you're looking for more of a secluded hideaway and don't mind a lack of mountain views (and have more money to spend), it's a nice alternative. And while Orchards had very limited parking at the street level, we were allowed to park at L'Auberge and ride the "hillivator" up to the Orchards.
If you're a big shopper, the location is one of the best. Orchards Inn is located right in the middle of Uptown Sedona (the major tourist area), with shops, galleries and restaurants lining both sides of the street. Items vary from the usual T-shirts and postcards to high-dollar sculptures and art. Many other places are just a short drive down, since the Orchards is only a few hundred feet from "The Big Y" with shops located on both Hwy 89 and 179.
My only complaints for the Orchards Inn were:
- The mattress in our room was pretty uncomfortable. If you have a bad back, this would be the only reason to think twice about this place.
- The front door was a little drafty - a minor problem, but noticeable in the cooling temperatures of November.
- No TV channel guide in the room. Although with the breathtaking views of Sedona, you have no business watching a lot of TV!
The only other strange thing had to do with the water - the toilet water was warm - really warm! They mentioned something about working on the water lines, but we had no problems.
Overall, we had a mostly great experience at the Orchards Inn. We spent many hours online debating which hotel we'd choose, and we think it was the right decision.
Not Crazy about The Orchards Inn
from A TripAdvisor MemberThroughout our stay there was no hot water for showering. Everyday we were told it was being fixed, but we had barely luke warm water, if any until the last day. This was 6 days later. I noticed another reviewer had the same problem starting Oct. 2nd.
The advertised coffee in the lobby each morning was not available until the lobby opened at 9 or 10 A.M. depending on their mood. If you have sightseeing plans, walk half a block west to Sedona coffee if you need more than in-room coffee in the AM. The varied lobby hours made it impossible for people to check out earlt without heading down to L'Auberge once again.
This hotel's professional staff needs training in customer service, however, the house keeping staff was excellent.
Overall the view from the room was remarkable. We booked 6 months in advance to attend a wedding at L'Auberge, but ended up with a first floor room. We were lucky, more than half of the first floor rooms have the view blocked by large shrubbery. We know people who booked much later than us that received rooms on the 2nd-3rd floors with much better views.
The parking for the hotel was ludicrous, some controls needs to be put in place.
The wedding we attended was at L'Auberge and was booked one year in advance. Our nephews family went through a living nightmare dealing with the powers that be at L'Auberge. There wedding planner was less than adequate and the General Manager had to become involved 2 days before the wedding.
Overall, we were less than pleased with these two sister hotels and if it weren't for the majestic views of Sedona, we would have nothing to recommend.
Disappointing stay at the Orchards Inn
from 4cowwomanTop Local Tips for Sedona
Hwy 89A is closed temporarily between Flagstaff and Sedona. We had to turn around and go back towards Flagstaff (at about mile 6 off of I-17) on Hwy 89A due to a road collapse & reconstruction. We went south on I-17, then turned west and north to Oak Creek Village (which also has much road construction going on-may have short waits), and then into Sedona. At the "Y", turn right, and the Orchards Inn is on the right side, about 2-3 blocks up, behind the Orchards Restaurant. I believe the 89A scenic road was to be open near the end of march, but you may want to check the Arizona DOT website for actual openings. You can still go UP the 89A scenic road from the Sedona end, for quite a ways (past Slide Rock St. Park).
Large Groups - Watch Out If you are dining with a group over 6, be sure to advise your server that bills are individual or couples as they automatically add 18% tip to bills over 6 clients. Understandable that it is a challenge to serve large groups however, when the service is not up to your standards, you are still forced to pay the 18%. I like to be able to reward for good service, not feel like I've been gouged for poor service.
Go Take a Hike and No Pink Jeeps, Pleez! Go take a hike and see the gorgeous scenery around Sedona. The godawful kitschy stuff in downtown Sedona is plain revolting.
