This is the only place to stay in Sedona

from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I did a lot of online and off-line research before heading off to Enchantment for our 10 year anniversary vacation. I was a little hesistant based on the negative comments about their staff. Well, we just returned from a seven day trip and I am thrilled about our choice. Given its location and seclusion alone, Enchantment really is the only place to stay in Sedona.

During our week there, we drove past all of the other options, and while some were nice, only the Enchantment enables you to walk out of your room and be in the midst of Sedona's red rocks. We used very little of the resort's amenities due to the hot July temperatures, but did swim in the pool and ate at the (fairly expensive) on-site restaurant.

We did not find the staff to be any more or less friendly than the typical "laid-back formal" attitude of the Southwest. In fact, I was able to break through some of the normal stuffy/formal waitstaff mentality and had a good chat with several of our servers.

If you are headed to Sedona with your significant other and want to enjoy the romance of Sedona, Enchantment is your choice!

we just came back from five days/four nights at the Enchantment Resort. It was so beautiful. My husband and I had a wonderful master suite, a living room, full kitchen, and we each had our own complete bathrooms. The view was simply fantastic. When we checked in we were told we had the best casita (they were really two casitas) on the property. My husband commented that you probably tell that to everyone, but our rooms were truly amazing. We have stayed at other exclusive resorts, but the Enchantment really does live up to high standards. Yes the meals at the restaurant are expensive. We went there our first and last night. The food and service are the best! Because I checked the tripadvisor before we went there I knew there ws a $3.00 service for housekeeping. I told them in their comment card they should tell people of the charge, or just build it into the price of a room. We will definately return. Also, make sure you take a helicoptor ride. Unbelievable!

Enchantment has it all (almost)

Had a great time at Enchantment. Had everything we wanted, relative seclusion, great food, spacious rooms and friendly service. Located in a box canyon, you are surrounded by breathtaking red rock cliffs on three sides. Nice gyms (one in hotel, one in Mi Amo spa), high speed internet, laundry. The Mi Amo Spa was excellent. Definitely feel we got our money's worth. Only minor "complaint" was that the formal restraurant was quite expensive. Will definitely return to Enchantment.

The views are outstanding! Service is not!

we stayed here for four days @ the end of June, 2004.
they nickel & dime you. housekeeping is hit or miss (this is a bummer), management acts as if you owe them, thank goodness for most of the staff. some waiters were gr8, others should have stayed @ burger king. rooms/casita's are beautiful. views are stupendous. Spa is only ok; overpriced for only fair talent. Because of its' beauty it is definately a couple of nights destination. It could have been so much more.

Awesome surroundings but...

Drove to the resort during the evening hours. Check in staff friendly. Ate dinner on the patio at the restaurant, good food, great service. Stayed in a casita bedroom, nicely furnished in soft muted adobe colors. Woke up the next morning and went out onto the patio and was taken back by the canyon. This resort has a lot to offer including hiking trails. But the bed was very firm and upon further inspection, we found a bed board between the mattress and box spring. Room service did not go well. Room service forgot the toaster (when you order toast they bring you a toaster so you can get your toast the way you like it, nice touch), ordered a banana-did not get, no butter and no salt/pepper. However, my family still enjoyed their stay and we will be back.

Awesome views

Who said they "don't do customer service"?? The customer service at Enchantment was wonderful. The wait staff called you by name, Mr. SoandSo or Mrs. SoandSo and were more than polite to explain what was on the menu if you didn't know what it was. The concierge was very helpful and thoughtful in suggesting activities. She even pointed us to an outlet store in town so that we could purchase some inexpensive jeans for $10 (that we forgot to pack) so that we could take a horseback ride. While I will admit that the dinner menu was one of the most expensive that I have ever seen, you should definitely treat yourself at least one night to a proper meal. They had a sea bass on the menu when we were there and it was a meal that I will remember for a long while. The red rock views from the resort are unmatched. It was extremely peaceful and relaxing there. The Boynton Cnyn trail runs behind the resort and is a nice 5 mile hike in and out. Nearby Doe Mtn offers incredible views from the top (make sure you get a Red Rock Pass). Sedona itself is a nice laid back resort town...plenty of tourist shops and restaurants to choose from, but not tacky. If you like art, then there are more than plenty galleries that will sell some very nice expensive pieces. If you like golf, Oakcreek C.C. by R. T. Jones is a nice shortish layout with some very incredible views. Fairways, tees, and greens are in great shape, but not manicured to the finest detail that you may find at an upscale course. Beginning of June was a good time to go it seems. It wasn't too hot, 90's in the day with a nice breeze, 60's at night. Things didn't seem too crowded in town or at the Grand Canyon.

There are very few places similar to the Enchantment! Once you arrive you are surrounded by nothing but red towering mountains and an open blue sky! The luxurys of a 5 star resort are always there to wrap around you like the warm fluffy robes. The resort features extensive hiking trails from the beginner, novice, and expert. Climbing Mt John and Mallory are a MUST!! Breakfast is wonderful at the Yavapai restaurant where the fruit and granola are to die for! You simply go to the Enchantment to relax and to get away from it all. Cell Phones do not work at the Enchantment, but you do get a good signal on both Mt John and Mallory. Whatever you do PLEASE do not dine at the Red Planet Diner. It was a very scary place, you may even come into a close encounter with the owner who I swear is an alien. Dahl and Di Luca is FANTASTIC. And treatments at the Miiamo spa are wonderful, if you are getting a facial ask for either Robin or Ginger we loved them both. Mark at the front desk was great, as well as Greg in the gift shop. Everyone is so friendly and ready to help you with anything. I recommed this resort to everyone I see, if you have seen the ocean and the shore it is time to see the red rocks of Sedona, and the only way to do it best is to stay at Enchantment. ALSO STAY CLEAR OF THE ARROYO ROBUL, unless you enjoy checking in fast and checking out even faster<<

loved the surrounding

I had the hot stone massage when the spa had just opened and it was just okay.

Sheer pleasures in spectacular setting!

We spend nearly a week at the Enchantment in January and had a marvelous time. The people who gave a one-circle rating below are people who didn't stay at the hotel; it s misleading to other prospective guests that they are bringing down the Enchantment's rating (I don t understand why someone claimed not to have been let in we saw many people not staying there who came for meals and to take pictures). Because we went in January, we benefited from the great off-season rates: $195 instead of $395 for the most inexpensive lodging, which also turned out to include complimentary usage of the spa. We found the staff extremely professional and helpful small problems, such as the wrong entree coming during lunch, were rectified on the spot, with the entree comped, without our having to make a big deal about it. The Enchantment s location is really spectacular and secluded, while close enough to the rest of Sedona to make meal or shopping outings convenient (though many days we had no desire to leave the resort grounds). We enjoyed hiking in the on-site trails in Boynton Canyon along with other breathtaking trails within 10 min. drive. Our room, the most inexpensive, was also comfortable and large, with incredible red-rock views from the patio, and a gorgeous bathroom with very nice toiletries (their High Desert line). But the best part of the trip was using the Mii Amo spa! Spa treatments there are not inexpensive: $115 for most 60-min. treatments, and it took some getting used to these when this is twice what I would pay at home. However, the spa is so luxurious and relaxing that it turned out to be well worth it. The little touches there, from the beautiful design to the cucumber water, make the spa really special and refreshing; I am especially a fan of the outdoor whirpool, which is sited so that it feels like a slice of heaven. We enjoyed the food at the Enchantment restaurants and at Mii Amo, but should note that on weekends, when the spa is more crowded, the service at Mii Amo was very slow, and I wouldn t necessarily recommend eating there if one is not committed to eating low-calorie food (one of our meals there was quite tasty, but it was too expensive for slow service). Overall, however, this was one of the best resorts I ve ever stayed in anywhere (against some tough competition), and off-season is a great time to go assuming the weather ends up being nice.

Location amazing, however service disappointing

I held a group meeting here, with 14 participants, with the hopes of mostly relaxing with some work. The location of the spa was unbelievably beautiful!!

The service level was high at the check- in, however, went down hill from there. As a seasoned spa-goer, I noticed that the people adminisering the treatments talked about ther personal lives, we not necessarily we versed in their treatment (ie. Aura-soma was more of a gimmick instead of a practice) and we were clearly not welcome in the spa to linger, drink champange and enjoy lunch. We had to have the manager come out twice due to service issues. It seemed like they were unforgiving with their schedule (cant be late for dinner or spa services at risk of being charged or reservation lost) but yet, the respose time for an issue was inadequate if addressed at all. In summary, when its good its very good, when its bad, its horrid.

Top Local Tips for Sedona

Sedona Art There is much good to say about Sedona, and I can't think of anything particularly negative. Make sure you have a good rental car, 4WD is a plus, mountain biking is excellent as are hiking and camping in the surrounding areas. One thing in particular to keep in mind is that this is one of the best selections of quality art on the planet. We have put off decorating our new home in Florida pending a trip to the many galleries of Sedona. The only word of caution, (I guess maybe there is one downside) don't expect great bargains. You will find some really cool stuff, but you will be expected to pay full ticket for almost everything. Also you will have plenty of opportunities to buy clothes if you forgot to pack for the 40 degree temperature swing between night and day. Of the Sedona properties I've visited, Enchantment Resort is by far the best.

Sedona - Pick your Battles Some areas of Sedona are lovely to walk around and shop/dine. Many are absolute tourist traps. Be wary of the hawkers trying to get you to do tours and palm readings!

Bland, uninspired cuisine most places We found the food in Sedona to be pretty bland and uninspiring on the whole. If you like Thai food, though, be sure to check out Thai spices - it was amazing!
