much better than expected!

My son and I stayed at the Inn for a week in July. I was anticipating the worst(based on a few reviews) but was pleased by how lovely it was. The rooms are clean, have great views and the staff was most helpful. The Inn is in west Sedona, right across the street from airport road which is a wonderful place to see the sunset. Based on our experience, I would request a room in the building with the office. The second and third floors offer the best views. THere is a fabulous restaurant within walking distance but be prepared-food is expensive in Sedona but the variety and quality is exceptional. THe continental breakfast is ok and there was plenty every morning. You will love Sedona and I would stay at the Inn again. THe swimming pool is nominal in size but it was a great place to cool off after the days activities.

the hotel was nice and clean. we had a nice porch with a view. one problem was that our room was far from the parking and the lobby and it was difficult to get all the suitcases there. the breakfast was nice and the service polite. they don't have a microwave in the rooms but they have one in the lobby for guest use. all in all we enjoyed our stay.

Our 1st choice of hotel in Sedona

We returned here in 2005, having stayed one night a couple of years before. It was very much how we remembered it, Great views, nice location and friendly staff.
I arrived with a tummy bug and the staff were very helpful and supportive.
We really liked Judi's restaurant, its just beside the hotel. You may need to book a table.

Quite a Disappointment

This place turned out to a very disappointing experience. First, we made a reservation two months in advance for a non-smoking room. When we entered the room it smelled like the maid had just lit up a Camel. The beds were hard as ironiing boards and the bathroom was so small you had to step outside to change your mind! Spend a couple of bucks and buy some decent mattresses!! The curtains drooped and barely covered the window and the place was just an overpriced Motel 6. Something hot at the continental breakfast, besides toast, would have been nice, too. The lady that ran that part of the hotel was the only one working. There was the usual adolescent clerks standing at the front counter, but they spent their time chit-chatting and not helping guests find the continental breakfast. If you're visiting Sedona, mark this place off your list or sleep in your car.

Second Visit - Enjoyed It

During our second visit, over Veteran's Day, we had top floor east-facing rooms (sunrise). The rooms were very comfortable and clean - none of the problems other visitors mention. The desk staff was alert and helpful; the clerk noticed that one of our rooms had been charged at a higher rate, and she automatically adjusted it to the lower price without being asked. The hotel is on a hillside overlooking beautiful views of the red rocks. We like being away from the touristy, busy, trafficky area of town. The hotel is close to several good eating places, a six-plex movie theater, grocery stores, drug stores, etc. We had a great dinner at India Palace. In the morning, bluebirds greeted us from the trees on the hotel grounds! I would stay here again.

The outside of this hotel is nice and the location is good. We had a nice view of the sunrise over the mountain, however, the room left something to be desired. I went to take a bath and realized there were no towels. We called the front desk and it took over an hour to get the towels to the room. Then upon getting into the tub, the shower curtain stunk. I realized the whole bottom of the shower curtain was covered with black mildew. In the morning, we realized the coffee pot would not work unless it was moved to a different electrical outlet. It did have a nice complimentary breakfast though. The staff was friendly....just not impressed with the room.

We spent only one night at this hotel but the personnel were wonderful and went out of their way to accommodate us. The views simply added to the serenity we began to feel. Nice...loved it.

A Disappointment

This hotel was a major disappointment on our Aug. 2004 AZ trip. Unlike the impression created on their web site, all rooms do not have the expansive patios. Our room was 2 floors down, under the patio rooms above - with no elevators. It was a lot of steep steps to have to lug bags down and up. Also, the air conditioner in the room was inadequate. The room was uncomfortably hot and stuffy throughout our 2-night stay, and the desk clerk was unresponsive to our complaint. On a positive note, the concierge was helpful, the room was clean, and the hotel's location was good, but we would not stay there again.

Greatly disappointed in the Best Western Motel, Sedona. Unloading suitcases requires temporary parking in the street if on the first or second floors. All parking is on the 3rd floor level, and 15 outside steps are required between floors. No elevators. There is a great deal of noise from movement of chairs and tables on the balconies. Reception is very mediocre and not at all friendly. Concierge is excellent, however. The rooms are clean, but housekeeping leaves a great deal to be desired in removing used glasses, emptying ice bucket, cleaning coffee pot. Ice is available only on the 3rd floor level outside by the swimming pool. The pool itself is postage size and is limited to 22 persons at a time. Our room did not include a refrigerator while our companion's room next to us did. I definitely would not stay here again and do not recommend the hotel.

After hours of internet searching, we decided on the Best Western Inn of Sedona as a central location for our Grand Canyon vacation. The hotel is set into the hillside with breathtaking views. We used the large patio as an extension of our room for the kids to play and to eat a quick meal. Lobby was lovely and the consierge was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the area.
The grounds were lovely. The one problem that really bothered myself and the other family we traveled with was the terrible odor coming from the bathroom toilet. So much so that we went to the grocery store to buy toilet cleaner. Housekeeping didn't seem to rectify it. Pool was small but very nice. Lots of steep stairs to climb to various levels. It was hard to catch our breath in the high altitude. Breakfast was fine, except for the constantly irritated hostess who seemed put out to be there. All in all, I'd stay again, but just check out the bathroom before paying.

Top Local Tips for Sedona

If your walking the land If your going to go hiking you will need a pass. The rangers are quite hot on this. I would say get a pass the when you pass one of the ranger stations and get one that is valid for your entire trip. They are not that expensive and is something we wish we had done.

Verde Canyon Railroad Go on the train, its in Clarkdale and fairly well signposted and ride the train to see the nesting bald eagles. Book first class for comfortable, spacious seating and complimentary food. Don't go to the station the recommended 90 minutes before boarding....its a way of getting you to spend more money in the gift shop! However, the buffalo burgers served outside the gift shop are excellent!!! Take your camera, some superb views and the guides on the train are very helpful. Make sure you go to the toilet early as there are huge queues just before the train is boarding, the toilets on the train are a bit basic and you need to hold on tight!!!!. Take your binoculars to see the eagles nesting (or hire some on the train for $3.50)

Sedona Go to Sedona for the natural beauty. There are the typical tshirt and souvenier shops, the pricey but beautiful local art, and a variety of restaurants for every tastes, but the beauty of the area is it's best feature.
