Bitten by a spider!

I was bitten by a Brown Recluse spider while staying here. I called the hotel from the emergency room the next day and was transferred to maintenance. I informed him of the spider bite and asked that they spray the room for the next guests. He made overly light of the situation and I never received a response back. My 5 year old daughter was with me at the time and if she had been bitten it could have been fatal.. Needless to say, I and all of my family and friends (I stay in Scottsdale monthly) will never stay here again and discourage anyone from ever taking the chance. (I still have a scar).

Beautiful resort, the service still needs a little improving

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Montelucia property is extraordinary. The room we had was a spacious king with a large patio and beautiful appointments. The views from the property of Camelback and other surrounding mountains are breathtaking.

The pools were very nice and there were enjoyable activities such as bocce and ping pong spread out on the property. The bellman were very helpful; Mark who runs the hotel entry appeared to take care of most guests personally and was extremely kind with great tips about the property and places to go.

The Joya Spa was magnificent. The massage I had there was first rate, and the facilities were huge. The entire property seemed empty during our stay, so if anything it was a little too calm but that didn't take away from the experience.

The property opened in November, so any issue we experienced I believe is due to the newness of the property, and in some areas inadequate experience of employees. These minor issues included such things as very slow service at the Prado restaurant and finding a clothing item from a previous hotel guest left in our room. These items would have not have stood out if not for the hotel being so beautiful, and the quality of certain staff being so high, that it raised our expectation that everything would run a bit more smoothly than it did. In a few months, I think the service will match the overall feel of the property.

I would highly recommend this resort.

Went To Heaven at InterContinental Montelucia Resort

from NickSeattle
My wife and I went to this resort for a romantic getaway, and wow were we blown away! I had no idea that there could be such a slice of heaven on earth. The resort is new, which normally can mean average service, but that was not the case at Montelucia. From the moment we arrived to every encounter we had with the employees, we were treated like royalty. We have stayed in great resorts all over the world and this one ranks up at the top of our list.

The spa is awesome and we ended up spending all day there. I did not have a treatment, but my wife did and totally enjoyed it. I was able to work out and hang with her at the pool for a perfect afternoon. That evening we went to the restaurant for dinner. I dont recall the name, but it is the only one at the resort. The best lamb I have ever had!

We stayed in the rooms by the main pool area, which I highly recomend. It was a little more expensive, but well worth it. Overall one of the best resort experiences we have ever had!

Beautiful new hotel, though still some kinks to work out

from thebeerhunter
We spent a weekend here in December 2008 not long after they opened.

As others have stated, the property is really nice. We self-parked so had a touch of trouble finding check in when we first walked in the main courtyard. Staff was very friendly and helpful; check-in was very quick. We were given a golf cart ride back to our room, which was a King Camelback room in the Fountain Village (same as a previous poster). The decor was warm and inviting, the room large -- and, in Intercontinental fashion, the bathroom was large with a great soaking tub. The balcony was spacious, and the outdoor seating particularly plush -- it was lovely to sit out with a cup of tea in the morning.

Still, the property is obviously new, still working out some new "kinks". Our first night at the bar we were given bar mix to go along with our drinks. There was an actual twig included in the bar mix (I know -- I bit down on it!). OK -- that isn't necessarily related to the property being new but it was an odd thing to encounter at an Intercontinental. Our second night at the bar for drinks, they lost power twice -- though it did come back relatively quickly. We also noticed it took a while for hot water to reach the shower.

I will say however the bartenders were great -- I ordered one of their "signature drinks" which I didn't really care for, and without me mentioning it, the bartender picked up on it -- and comped me another drink they thought I would like better (and he was right!)

Although we'd see other folks at the bar and restaurant, we rarely saw anyone else out and about on the property.

The only "bad" thing I'd say about the property is that it seems to be very close to some busy intersections, so that when sitting outside on our balcony overlooking Camelback Mountain, we'd hear the sounds of traffic closeby. It was a slightly incongruous sensory experience.

Overall though we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and may make it back to this property again soon.

Great Location!

Spa is amazing, great ambiance, employees are friendly and eager to help. The restaurant is good but not great. The wine selection would be better if they offered more mature reds.

Gorgeous resort

from Takara_NYC
I was there for a seminar and brought my husband along, and we had a fantastic time. The resort is absolutely beautiful with great attention to detail, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful and the entire place feels more like an actual village rather than a hotel.

Very family friendly

from churri72
We had a great stay at the hotel. They had just opened the resort when we went, so you could tell that everything was brand new. The staff was great, specially since we were traveling with kids and sometimes can be a bit challenging. They have an excellent Kids Club with plenty of games and fantastic people to keep the children entertained when we were having lunch. We loved the pool area. They have the best veggie burger in the pool restaurant. In the resort you really feel you are somewhere in the Mediterranean. Great style!!!

Superb Resort

from davidw70
I was at the hotel at the same time as a previous reviewer (28-30 November) and agree that this is a superb hotel. Check-in was very prompt, and then golf cart to the room - King Cambelback View in the Fountain Village. There are a number of villages and you pay more the closer you are to the main pool, bar & restaurant. However, it takes less than 5 minutes to walk there from the furthest point so unless it is an untypically bad Scottsdale day, it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

The room was very well furnished, with great balcony overlooking Camelback Mountain. Excellent-sized bathroom (my only slight complaint is it did take a while for hot water to run although I understand the hotel is looking into this). High-def TV and extremely comfortable bed. Wireless internet is included in the $24 resort fee, along with parking and fitness centre.

The bar was extremely busy on the Friday night, but as the previous reviewer said, the resort was very quiet otherwise. Good quality (and reasonable value) breakfast in the restaurant, and excellent gelato from the Crave shop (together with friendly staff). Both the Oasis and Kasbah pools were excellent.

I've also stayed at the Intercontinental Aphrodite Hills in Cyprus, and this has a number of similarities (i.e. villas around pools, golf carts, well furnished rooms, excellent service, etc). Given the Montelucia has only been open a month, it compares very well.

I'll definitely be returning on my next visit to Scottsdale.

Beautiful Hotel, Beautiful Location

from CaliCoupleLosAngeles
I was in Phoenix on business, but I brought my wife and baby since I have family there. The property was stunning with great attention to detail. The staff made every effort to ensure our visit went smoothly including a crib and refrigerator for our baby needs.

My wife had a chance to get a facial in their 3,800 sq ft spa and loved it! They also have a separate pool with great views in the spa area.

We had dinner at the restaurant the first night and enjoyed their mediterranean cuisine. My only complaint would be the portion size of the entrees, but it did not detract from our overall experience.

We will definitely stay there again!

Great New Resort

from atticus1131
After a last minute cancellation at a different hotel in Scottsdale we booked this hotel on Hotwire for 2 nights (Nov. 28-30) at a rate of $105/night. There was also a $24/night resort fee.

The hotel opened in November and they have done an excellent job with this hotel, especially with the service. It definitely felt first class when we pulled up and our bags were taken away to a golf cart to be caught up with after we checked in and received a quick tour of the grounds. The grounds are very nice and everything is fresh and clean and has a very Spanish feel to it. We were very impressed by the fountains and the pools and the amount of detail in every gate, building, and feature.

We were driven via golf cart to our room. The only complaint we have about the layout is how expansive it was and how we wished we had been given our own golf cart to get to and from our room, which was located at the far end of the resort. But that location gave us a great view of the mountains from our patio so it somewhat made up for the trek.

We were very impressed by the room. My wife and I really liked the dark wood theme in the bedroom and bathroom and the feather bed was very comfortable. The plasma TV had multiple HD channels and the room had a safe, a coffee maker (which was setup during the evening turndown service), and a stocked mini-bar that we stayed away from. They also provided comfortable robes and slippers.

We were there the Friday through Sunday after Thanksgiving and it seemed as though we had a lot of the resort to ourselves. The pools and the hot tub are open 24 hours and when we went out to the hot tub around sunset it felt like our own private retreat.

We had a couple minor issues, one with the thermostat where it took a while to get the room to warm up (maybe something they're not used to in Arizona), and the other was where they had double charged the room on our folio even though we had already pre-paid. The manager quickly took care of it and it seemed like a new-hotel glitch but I'd double check your bill to make sure if you stay here.

Overall, we'd like to give the Montelucia a 4.5 but since we can't we bumped it up to a 5 because on top of the room and the resort, the staff really went out of their way to make it a great stay for us. Every time we walked by any member of the staff they went out of their way to be friendly and make us feel like a valued guest. That type of treatment goes a long way.

If we're ever back in the Phoenix area, we'd love to stay here again.

Wonderful Ambiance

from christy2064
I recently stayed at this new hotel in Phoenix/Paradise Valley area. It opened on 4th of November. The staff is great, the feeling of the property overall is one of relaxation.
The hotel has the feeling of a spanish/moorish town. You come into the main square and feel as if you are in a different place.
The rooms are large with patio that has a ceiling fan. The bathrooms are equally large with huge tub and walk in seperate shower.
there are 3 pools, one at the spa, one an adult only, one for everyone. Tons of chairs/cabana's, etc.
The spa has specialized treatments and beautiful rooms. You could spend days there alone.
I had lunch at the pool and the burger is great. Breakfast is resonably priced and the restaurant has a wood burning oven that they use.
Great drinks in the Prado bar.
I would definately go back and recommend this property.
