Top Local Tips for Phoenix

Hiking My wife and I are avid hikers. If you get an extra half day, go hike the trail at Pinnacle Peak!! We went in mid February so the weather wasn't too hot or too cold. It has amazing views, great wildlife, vegetation is beautiful and there are many small signs that describe a huge variety of plants. Great for a family also. The hike is easy to moderate and about 3.5 mile total. It winds up and around Pinnacle Peak Mtn and back down again. It's about 1 3/4 miles one way, then turn around and go back. Normally we don't like to do hikes that you have to go back the way you came, but the scenery was so diverse, it seemed as if it was just a continuation of the trail and didn't seem like we were going back the way we came. Absolutely beautiful!

Using Phoenix's New Light Rail If you arrive into Sky Harbor you can now take a free shuttle bus to the close-by light rail stop. The light rail trains are easy to use, clean, and safe. You buy a ticket at a dispenser at the station and validate it just before getting on a train. Take a west bound train for stops close to nearly any hotel in the downtown Phoenix (i.e. near the PHX convention center) or the new downtown ASU campus. Take an east bound train if your destination is the main Tempe ASU campus. DOn;t try to tak light rail if you are headed to any of the large resort hotels in Scottsdale use a cab instead as Scottsdale opted out of light rail.
