No military rate on Fri/Sat???

I attempted to stay the night of the 14th (JUL) and was told there was not a military rate by the very rude desk associate (wish I had got his name.) I was quoted 159.00 a night even though the super 8 and other hotels were charging 81.00 a night. I told him I was on official government orders and showed my ID and he said quote " everybody has a military ID, go to your car and get your orders and I will ask the owners if they will give you a GOV rate". I am a 21 year veteran of the USAF and have never been so offended in my entire career! I guess making money for the owners is more important than appriciation of your service to your country. I just had him hand me back my ID and credit card and he laughed?? My Mom and Dad live in Camp Verde and I see them 4-5 times a year. You can bet I will never stay at your hotel in the future.

I stayed at this hotel as Flagstaff was full (Homecoming weekend, who knew?) and was impressed with the pleasant welcome I received. The real surprise was getting up in the middle of the night to take a peek at the skies. The area is very dark and the skies are very clear once the nearby restaurants turn off their signs. You will be surprised at what you can see with the unaided eye.

Best in spring or fall Camp Verde is very pleasant at the right time of year, but like most of Arizona you need to be selective about your time of year. Summers can be hot..100 deg. and winters can be cold if it is windy.

A lot of cuture and history near Camp Verde Verde Canyon Railroad; Out of Africa wildlife animal refuge; some newly revitaized artsy towns nearby that used to be almost ghost towns. See main part of review.

out of africa wild life park the safari jeep tour is a must do, you can get so close to the animals and even feed giraffes.
