Top Local Tips for Fairbanks

Pioneer Park We were very reluctant to go to Pioneer Park, as it looked a bit like a tourist trap. However, we were pleasantly surprised. It was free to get into, and we had a fun time shopping in the small stores that were in cabins from the gold rush era. There's not a ton to do there, so don't plan on spending a lot of time there, but we thought it was a fun place to spend an hour or so.

Alaska Railroad The trip from Fairbanks to Denali with the GoldStar Service is very expensive for what you get. You pay for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the round trip fare is $200 + per person. The train ride is fun and there is some good scenery but for what you pay they should include at least one meal on this trip.

A must see! If you are in Fairbanks and you want to learn about Alaska and have great fun go to Alaska Land. This is a sesonal place but there is something for everyone. Bring a good pair of shoes there is alot of walking. Or we bring the kids bikes so they can ride around and my mother in law can use her wheel chair there.
