It's remote, is a rental car necessary? No; rental cars are expensive because of the need for insurance in Mexico. Most persons coming here stay locally and "explore" on foot. While taxis to/from the airport are not inexpensive, if one is staying a week or longer, save money by using local transportation except for airport transit.

Pesos or Dollars? Most places and vendors accept either pesos or dollars, but some of the smaller restaurants don't accept credit cards. We recommend exchanging money at the airport to avoid having to drive around to find a place to exchange money. I don't think there's an ATM anywhere in Troncones. Troncones doesn't have any great places to shop if you're into that. But there are several little shops to purchase beer, soda, snacks and some grocery items, those places usually accept credit cards. You'll need a ride to these shops if you don't have a car. It can be a hot, dusty walk otherwise!
