Top Local Tips for Troncones

Getting to Troncones, Guerrero, Mexico Take a flight to Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo airport, then you may rent a car and drive (just follow the signs it is a pretty straight road with good signaling, so you are not in any danger of getting lost), better:if you are on a budget take a bus outside the airport get to Zihuatanejo down-town ( just one dollar) or if you want to buy some groceries, beer and liquor before you get there ask the bus driver to let you off at "La Comercial" or "Aurrera" buy your stuff and there take a taxi, just ask how much, otherwise someone might get the idea that you may be charged anything they want- if you ask beforehand they will tell you the usual fare (from 15 to 25 USD) and take you comfortably there. If you are not on a budget take a taxi right in the airport and it should cost you about 30 to 40 USD (including tip if you give one).

Mexican Riveria Troncones is a wonderful, off the beaten path destination. It is still a small fishing village, very colorful and full of local flavor. Many lovely resorts, ranging from just one or two rooms, to small lodges. All seem to have pools, and easy access to the beach. Though the beach is scattered with smooth black lava rock, there is still a wonderful sandy beach for kids and beachcombers. We stayed at Casa Manzanillo, which has 6 rooms, all beach front, with an infinity pool. The manager is on location, so, no need to wait til morning, if you have a concern. We spent 2 weeks there, and are planning to go back in Jan of 2009. There are lots of places to eat, including a restaurant in the resort. It's a 40 min. drive from the airport at Ixtapa. Rent a car, or Farar, the manager will arrange for transportation. If you are interested in buying a little slice of this heaven, Farar can help you there, too. He speaks fluent English and Spanish.
