ART WALK!! & CULTURE Check out all the fine Art all Thur the area. Go into the studio's on the side streets for some wonderful techniques and presentations. Dine at some authentic Mexican restaurants with the locals or just sit in the plaza and watch people. Visit the Church's just to see the Architecture. Wonderful and worth remembering even if your not religious.

a day in Guadlajara Guadalajara is a big city that is a bit rough around the edges, but worth a brief stop-over en route to or from another tourist destination (Puerto Vallarta , Guanajuato or San Miguel de Allende are all about four hours away and first-class buses travel between them frequently). My husband and I spent a few hours walking around the historic centre and saw most of the key tourist sites including the main plaza, cathedral, and public market (an amazing and crazy place that some tourists might find overwhelming). We spent the remainder of the day lazing about Tlaquepaque. Tlaquepaque is a half hour bus ride from downtown GDL and I would recommend staying there as it is a charming, small and safe upper middle-class suburb with lots of restaurants and cafes that are very animated at night. The shops in Tlaquepaque were nice but seemed a bit overpriced. Better deals might be had in Tonala, which we had time to visit, but opted not to.

you don't need a car if you have specific destinations in mind, let someone else do the driving and save on the cost of Mexican insurance. you can go virtually anywhere on the wonderful bus system, just hang on and have pretty close to exact change (about 9 pesos). I wanted to explore a lot, and rented a car this time, but I don't think I'd do that again, the insurance cost more than the rental car.
