It was so refreshing to find an affordable hotel half a block from the beautiful main square and cathedral in Taxco! The old but well kept place was very clean and quiet; and all the staff made us feel at home. The price was less than a third of what other hotels in the vecinity were asking. Great find!

When one visits Taxco, it can be done from a distance or close up and personal. There are plenty of four star hotels down on the highway skirting the town, but the Hotel Melendez is located at the very center of Taxco.
With its very reasonable price The Melendez offers basic accommodations with private baths. Some of the rooms facing the main square have balconies, but most are interior rooms. Some don't even have windows, but the view from the roof is available to all guests and is one of the best views in Taxco. The Santa Prisca cathedral is just steps from the door of the Melendez. Shopping is a lot of fun in Taxco, and one can visit either the outdoor market that meanders down the road next to Santa Prisca or visit the shops on the quaint turning roads off the main square.
A stay at the Melendez is like a visit in a Mexican home.
