Top Local Tips for San Miguel de Allende

El Jardin Take some time to sit in the park and watch the people. There is plenty of shade trees and lots of benches as well as food vendors where you can buy a snack. Strike up a conversation with other tourists or some of the many expatriates who come to the Jardin to meet friends. The Jardin is a great place to practice Spanish with the Mexican residents.

Never go here and stay in your hotel! San Miguel de Allende is a tiny place -- I'm not an athletic girl, but I walked through the whole town during my 7 day stay many times (just don't even think about wearing heels!). Despite it's size, it is amazing to wander around and just take in everything you can. It's a perfect tourist destination becuase every little storefront is new and interesting, there's something cool behind every corner (be it shopping, spas, architecture, culture, history, or just people-watching and food). This is the best place in the world to go to and feel relaxed and entertained in a very low-key and stress-free environment. THUS -- NEVER PLAN ON STAYING IN YOUR HOTEL DURING THE DAY OR EVENINGS!!! GET OUT AND EXPLORE!!!
