I recently spent several days at the hotel and found it very charming and enjoyable. Its more like an inn and far from the typical hotels that are so common. Beautiful gardens, courtyards, colonial architecture from the 19th century, and lots of art work. Their fireplace in our room was warm and I had plenty of firewood. It was like dropping back into history and with lots of personal attention. San Cristobal is so special and the hotel just amplified it all.

Top Local Tips for San Cristobal de las Casas
it is colder than you think We went to San Cristobel in early March. Whilst the rest of Meico was enjoying temperatures of 25-30 degrees c, it was quite cold in San Cristobel. We were thankful to have packed our fleeces, but still had to but a woolly hat from the market. Not a lot to do there, would recommend other people only need one full day in the town.
HIking and horseback riding There are a few good hikes in the San Cristobal area but the horseback riding is limited to a ride to Chamula which was just so-so. In contrast, the horse riding at Don Juan's private ranch was a big treat. Beautiful surroundings in the mountains and enough space and freedom to have a lot of fun. Its not open to the public but the hotel was great in allowing us to do this.
