We had 8 people in our group staying at the Playacar Palace for 8 days in late May/early June. We have stayed at AI's for 14 years in the Cancun/Riviera Maya area. We usually stay at the Palace resorts because our visits to other AI's have been very dissapointing. The food and drinks at the Palace chain are much better than the others we have tried.

Our stay at the Playacar Palace was almost perfect. Each person in our group of 8 had a wonderful time. The age range of our group was from 15 to 70. Four of the 8 were teenagers and all had a blast. My wife and I love smaller resorts like the Playacar because the service is so wonderful. The food was great at all the restaurants and the room service steaks were the best steaks we have had in the region.

The location a few yards from the Fifth Avenue shopping/entertainment district was a big plus for all. Also, the ferry to Cozumel was only a short walk away. We took the ferry to Cozumel and spent a day at another hotel in the chain, the Cozumel Palace. The kids loved the beautiful water there. The food and drinks were excelent there also.
We plan to return many times to the Playacar to be pampered again.

Top Local Tips for Riviera Maya

If you are a diver!! If you are a diver I would totally recommend Diversitydiving.com. We did 4 dives with them and they were really great! My husband was a first time diver and did their Discover Scuba progam. They were very patient and thorough! He loved it. Also avoid the time share people everywhere. We were wise to what they were doing but heard from others about being sucked into wasting precious vacation time.

12th ave has some good places Blue Parrot club and surrounding places are cool.

Playa is awesome, Don't tell anyone Don't bother with all inclusive unless you plan to spend 24 hours--7 days there. Food is just not worth it. We do it sometimes for the bars and pool services, but $300.00+ per day is rediculous. They don't let you know the fees until 2 weeks before you get there... i was told $1,400.00 by RCI when i booked. Can't change plans that late
