Top Local Tips for Puerto Vallarta
Watch where you walk! Watch where you are walking. Especially in town. There are things sticking up out of the sidewalk (rebar?) and sometimes the sidewalk will just disappear into a sink hole or something. When in a new place in is natural to gawk and not look at your feet, just be careful. We saw 2 or 3 tourists with twisted ankles.
Driving from Mexico City to Ixtapa It took us all day. We set off from the centre of Mexico city at 10am and arrived at Ixtapa at 7pm with only a couple short stops along the way. It took us to long partly because we had great difficulty finding the Acupulco motorway (toll road). We got round the Periferico quite quickly to the Aztec Stadium but spent about an hour driving round in circles trying to find signs for Acupulco. So the first big tip is BUY A MEXICO CITY STREETMAP. The Periferico has signs for the streets that cross it - there's no real longer distance signing at all. So you need a map which tell syou all the street names crossing the Periferico. The second big tip is HAVE A FULL TANK OF GAS. There's a 200km stretch with no gas stations at all (or anything else for that matter) on the toll motorway.
