Top Local Tips for Puerto Vallarta
Do the trip to Yalapa! If you have the chance, do the trip to Yalapa! We had the most amazing travel experience. Luckily, we were in a very small group (only 4 couples) and so it was a bit more relaxed and intimate. We probably would have liked in much less in a large group. When we got to Yalapa, we all decided we wanted to find the waterfall, and a 8 year-old Mexican boy offered to escort us there. Luckily, I spoke Spanish, and after being a bit leery at first, off we went. This boy - Ismael - was charming, funny, and smart as a whip. He showed us lots of little sites along the way, and took special interest in a young woman in our group who was not feeling well. If you go to Yalapa, ask around the beach for Ismael and ask him to take you to "la cascada." It was one of the most memorable travel experiences we've had.

DON'T GO! Wild Jungle Buggy tour of Puerta Vallarta Tours Puerta Vallarta Tours offers a Wild Jungle Buggy tour that is the worst vacation experience I’ve encountered. The name of this tour is completely misleading. Jungle??? This is three hours of dust and poverty. There are no ‘views’, ‘rivers’ or ‘mountain springs’ as described. Just eating dust until the half way point, which is a tour of the tequila factory, then more dust on the way back. They must be kidding with this one. Perhaps it might be fun in the rainy season but there still would be nothing scenic about it.

Very nice hotel, beds not that comfortable but the beach, staff, views and serenity were terrific. Away from all the hustle and baloney of downtown but still close enough for a visit
