If you want a place to stay in the south zone of PVR, this is the place to stay. I'm very particular when it comes to hotel accommodations but my main criteria is: Safety Cleanliness Cost The Hotel Torre De Oro gets a 10 for meeting these criteria. They are not as fancy when it comes to having an accommodating pool, on site restaurants or other 5 Star hotel amenities. But again I went on vacation to enjoy PVR, not the hotel! My friends and I are planning a PVR trip for late 2005, we are definitely booking the Hotel Torre De Ore.

Top Local Tips for Puerto Vallarta

The Beach House on Los Muertos Beach If you're staying in the Zona Romantica near Los Muertos beach I highly recommend The Beach House. If you've not been to PV before... the beaches there have beach clubs on where you can sit all day. Most offer umbrellas and food/beverage service. The Beach Club (just after El Dorado...look for the khaki colored umbrellas) has perfect this and offers great food and drinks, clean restrooms and excellent service. Marco, the owner, comes from the Four Seasons so he knows service and has insight into those little extras that make things perfect. For example, his staff comes around with chilled, eucalypts scented towels throughout the day. Nice touch. The prices here are above avg for the beach but then again....so is the food, service, etc. Spend at least one day with Marco but be warned he fills up early so go early or make a reservation for the next day.

Gay Freindly, safe and walkable The Romantic zone and Old town area was very enjoyable, I liked that there were tourist oriented restaurants,but also local restuarnats and street stands. The tourist in this area seemed to be respectful of the culture and that we were visiting another country and culture. When I went further north closer to the big resort places with more typical tourist spots, I began to see an "ugly American" sceanario, demonstrated by a few with attitudes of supeiorority and privelage, assuming all locals where there to serve them. This was my first vacation as a single traveler and as a gay man I found things to keep me entertained during the day and people at night in various locations.

Tourist area dining Go to the areas East of the Beaches and find wonderful small restaurants at low prices rather than the tourist dives that are not good and are high priced.
