The rooms are very big. Most are being retiled. Ask for one that has been renovated. They are breathtaking.
You have a great view of the beach, yet just far enough away from the main road.
This is a very quiet place and not heavily populated. The only unexpected noise was the 7am. distant bugle call of the military battalian on the hill above the hotel. Barely noticable, but we all still stand and salute just for fun.
We were a short walk from the Adoquin. You have to visit the Mercado (market) for groceries if you want to keep the room stocked. This is an experience if you have never walked through an open air meat and fish dept.
For dinner I recomend visiting the Santa Fe. (also has an internet room you can use). Just a short walk is Pascal-simply amazing! For a fun evening visit the Split Coconut in the Vista Hermosa. Short taxi ride to the top of the hill.
The staff is helpful, but do not speak much English. But you are in Mexico. They try really hard to accomodate your every need.
You should tip the staff before you leave.
Security is not a problem here. Lock your windows and use your safe. The combination is reset (by you) upon arrival.
Rooms were very cool with A/C and four ceiling fans.
You will no doubt meet Mike. He plays the local bands and stays at the Tabachin regularly. He knows the ins and outs of the area. If you are totally lost or have no plans, you won't even have to ask him for advice.
Beware of the Silver Jewelry salesman in the white hat. He hangs out in front of the hotel and is very annoying. His jewelry is fake and he follow you around. I found he knows some sign language.
The bark painter is legit, and will paint while sitting outside the Santa Fe. He has good work and cheap. Also the clothing salesmen next to him are good people. Don't wash these clothes in cold water!
Helpful travel hints:
Taxis- From airport ONLY a airport mafia-sactioned vehicle.
In town, any green or blue taxi, clearly marked. Discuss price before riding, but normally anywhere you want to go is about 20 pesos (locally)
Busses- I never used the busses
Transport trucks- BEST VALUE! for about 10 pesos, you jump on the back and just ring the bell when you get to where you are going.
Explore this region! There are just too many little hot spots to list.
