Close to the action of Playa del Carmen Take a taxi for $5 to Playa del Carmen and enjoy spending a few hours roaming fifth avenue.

Excursions....pay close attention....etc. Just because you book with a particular company, they are not necessarily the one to pick you up. These companies all seem to share services. For instance, we booked a tour with Olympus, but Cancun Line picked us up at the hotel. The operators are punctual, so if a van/bus arrives at your appointed time, ASK if they are there for you. Carry a lot of one dollar bills for tips. Beware of souvenirs the vendors claim are carved in stone........it isn't stone, but rather plaster or porous cement and they crack easily. When quoted a price on a souvenir, counter with an offer no more than 50% less and work from there. In Playa and in Cozumel, the hawkers are relentless.

Colectivos If you are planning excursions away from Playa, use this method of transportation. It's a cheap and effective way to go from Tulum to Cancun and everywhere in between. It's alot cheaper buying admission to a park and getting your own transportation there instead of going the tour way which costs alot more. Plus you get to see some sights you might not see otherwise.
