Food problems
My family and I stayed in the Viva Azteca feb 2006. The rooms were clean and most of the staff was great.(except the front desk staff)but we were very disappointed in the food. I was amazed that they could screw up good food so bad. One night we discovered the desserts were left over from xmas. Chocolate xmas ornament and the head of a chocolate snowman. I didn't expect them to cater to us tastes, but serveral meals it was difficult to find something that was worth eating. The pool bar makes hamburgers if you lucky enough to get one of the five he makes. The wings taste like they were dipped in medicine. The pizza is terrible. The food we had the entire time we were there was on one of the side trip to mayan village.

My fiancee and I stayed at the Viva Azteca last Feb and loved every minute of it. The resort is right on the beach, and has a large amount of beachfront. The rooms are nothing amazing...clean but with had beds. We didn't have a view of the water from our room, but from the looks of the way the hotel is set-up not many rooms have an ocean view. The food is good, the buffet is large adn has plenty of choices. Having the Viva Mayan right down the road makes for a even better experience as far as food goes, but the Azteca is the nicer of hte two resorts BY FAR!! It's smaller, quiter, and just better all around. The food at the pool bar is not great, it's just frozen pizza and burgers, but it's good enough. The drinks are plentiful and they don't take long to get. But the best part of the resort is the town of Playa. Playa del Carmen is a great place to hang out. The people are really friendly, and I never felt unsafe. There are lots of great little bars and restaurants along the m...Read more
